Former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett will take the next step in his football career in Michigan.

Barrett has been added to the Lions’ coaching staff as an offensive assistant.

The 27-year-old Barrett never played in an NFL game but spent time on the roster of the Saints, Seahawks and Steelers.

At Ohio State, Barrett was a three-time All-Big Ten quarterback who owns the all-time Big Ten record for career passing touchdowns, with 104. The Buckeyes went 38-6 in the 44 games Barrett started.

  1. J.T. Barrett could end up being an excellent coach. I’m looking down the list of coaches who won super bowls, and hardly any of them played in the NFL. Or at least they were insignificant players who rarely if ever got on the field.

  2. Rooting for JT. He was so good at Ohio State. It just shows how hard it is to make a starting spot on a professional team. So many hundreds of players are out here with all the tools to succeed but there’s just limited space. If you aren’t a top 64 QB it’s hard to stay on any roster
