A.J. Dillon’s Lambeau Leap during soccer match creates odd viral moment

USA TODAY Sports

At some point on Sunday, if you were paying any attention to social media, you saw video of a police officer at Lambeau Field giving Packers running back A.J. Dillon a hard shove, before Dillon performed a leap into the crowd during the weather deal of the Manchester City vs. FC Bayern soccer match. It looked strange, to say the least.

The officer didn’t stop Dillon from jumping into the stands. However, the shove suggested that the officer was in some way irritated or aggravated with Dillon.

A longer version of the video shows Dillon interacting with the crowd before the police officer grabs him. After Dillon apparently explains that he intends to perform a Lambeau Leap, the cop pushes him away.

Dillon defended the officer: “Two security told me and helped me come down to the field during the 30 minute rain delay, so I could do a Lambeau leap and hype up the crowd. . . . I’m assuming he missed them telling me to come down.” Dillon also said that it was “just miscommunication” and that “I’m glad we have them down there for our games to keep us safe.”

It was still an odd reaction by the officer, to shove Dillon the way he did.

  1. This is posted all over reddit with ridiculous people reading all kinds of ridiculous stuff into it that was not there. Its actually a simple non issue. Life went on just fine that day.

  2. A very diplomatic reaction by AJ. There was absolutely no reason for him to be treated that way.

The cop acted like a jerk and deserves all the criticism coming his way.

  4. Not going to pretend I know all the circumstances here but the clip that I saw shows behavior that is unacceptable.Kudos to AJ Dillon to handle this like he is.Shows true character on his part.Really hope we see the security person/officer show the same character and publicly apologize.

  5. Lol. If you live in Green Bay, and you can’t recognize one of the best players on the Packers by their face, that’s incredibly ridiculous. That cop should be reprimanded and will forever live on the internet, looking like a complete, idiotic fool.

    _____________

Being assualted by a police officer is not a non-issue.

  7. After watching the longer version of the clip, I was left with two thoughts. 1, AJ is a good guy, he didn’t turn it into something bigger, he would have been justified in doing so. 2, the police officer shouldn’t have a badge, he’s got that Napoleon syndrome. It’s like that creepy MLB ump move earlier this year, just abusing their power because they can.

  8. Unless the cop’s name was Aaron Donald, good luck trying to push AJ Dillon around. . . . .

  9. Videos with no sound always tell the whole story so I feel justified in drawing my own conclusions with no further information.

  10. Between this and him running over a 150 pound mascot, I think this guy needs to find other forms of entertainment.

  11. Typical power-tripping cop. No discretion, no empathy, just triggered aggression. Way too much of that in this world.

So with everyone faulting the cop for not recognizing Dillon lets assume he did not. (I didn’t either, had to read the article) The cop is supposed to arrest anyone that comes over the barrier onto the field, so you actually saw him using restraint and working to not have to exercise his power.
