N’Keal Harry grateful for “much-needed fresh start” with Bears

The Patriots made N'Keal Harry the 32nd overall choice in 2018. He fell out of favor with Bill Belichick and never lived up to expectations, playing 33 games with 18 starts and seeing action on 1,130 offensive snaps and 32 on special teams.

Harry asked for a trade last summer, but the Patriots didn’t make a move until earlier this month.

“It really is a much-needed fresh start for me,” Harry said Wednesday after his first practice with the Bears, via Chris Emma of 670 The Score.

Harry saw only 103 targets and caught 57 passes for 598 yards and four touchdowns in his time in New England. He should see more playing time and more opportunities on a team rebuilding at the position after losing WR1 Allen Robinson in free agency.

Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown are in similar situations, hoping to move up the depth chart with the Bears as complementary targets to Darnell Mooney.

Harry calls this “a reset, a much-needed reset.”

“I just want to show how dominant I can be as a player in the NFL,” Harry said.

The Bears gave up only a 2024 seventh-round pick, so it is a low-risk, high-reward trade. Quarterback Justin Fields said Wednesday he is “very excited” to see what Harry can do, and Harry no doubt is motivated.

“He has a really good skill set, great physical traits, and I think he has something to prove, for sure,” first-year General Manager Ryan Poles said.

  1. I’d be surprised if anything changes. If you’re not willing to work, a change of scenery doesn’t matter.

  2. No quickness, no burst, no ability to separate. Yeah, “dominant” sounds right…

  3. Oh yes, please show everyone how dominant you can be. On this Bears team. Good luck.

  4. He may do better in Chicago with a QB that can make off scripts plays. The Patriots offense was not a good fit.

  5. Will be interesting. Very few (any??) players become exceptional after BB trades them away, But many become exceptional players only after he aquires them.

  6. Yet another brilliant belichick pick. Never has a guy been given so much credit having ridden someone else’s(Brady’s) coattails. Lol

  7. Hes already pencil’d in to be an absolute menace to only the Vikings. Just like most bears receivers

  8. When I first heard this news back a couple weeks ago, I thought oh great. I know he hasn’t panned out for a team desperate for receivers, but I was happy the Bears had nothing at WR coming into this year. Hopefully he doesn’t break out into something.

  9. So let me get this straight…

BB gets all the credit for jettisoning this guy… he gets bagged on for not working..

    Yet…

With all of the advanced scouting and resources available now…

    BB continually flubs draft picks…

    Interesting

  10. The bears would have a better chance of ocho stinko becoming a dominant receiver for them

That is funny. Thank you. The real truth is BB can’t draft a WR for his life sake and the players he gets in FA are usually already well established good players that someone else drafted and taught. He only got those players because they wanted to play with Brady. Had nothing to do with him or the so called BS Patriots way. You BB fans are pitiful. The Patriots will be 9-8 max this year. But you all can still say BB is a genius and he has a plan to dominate. Probably going to lose on purpose since he is a step ahead of everyone. LOL.
