Khalil Mack: I’ve accomplished my personal goals, Super Bowl is only thing on my mind

Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack has been the NFL’s defensive player of the year, he’s been a first-team All-Pro three times, he’s been a Pro Bowler six times, and he was on the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s. He has enough personal accolades.

What he hasn’t done is play in a Super Bowl, and when asked on Wednesday about his personal goals, he said the team goal of winning the Super Bowl is all that’s left for him.

“I feel like up to this point in my career, I’ve accomplished things, but ultimately we want to get to a Super Bowl and we want to win it. That’s the only thing on my mind at this point in my career,” Mack said.

In four seasons with the Raiders and four with the Bears, Mack has never won a playoff game in his NFL career. He hasn’t been close to a Super Bowl, and that’s the one thing he wants.

  1. Mack is at least on a team that can compete this time. As a Raider fan I loved thecway he played when he was with Oakland. However, my Raiders need a Super Bowl now.

  2. You won’t get a SB with this team as long as it has the Staley/Herbert combination.

  3. Go out and get your 6-8 sacks … this very well may be the most overrated player in NFL history.

  4. The Chargers and Chiefs will be battling for divisional champion. Broncos will be in the mix. The Raiders will be looking at new coaching staff personnel by week 6.

  5. The Chargers are going to be the most improved team in that division. The Raiders will take a huge step back from their poor trade decision and tanking their draft picks with no protection for Carr, who already struggles to be a top QB in the NFL.

  6. The Khalil Mack trade was the biggest fleece to the Raiders since the Packers taking all the Raiders draft picks in the Davante Adams trade. Now Khalil will come back to haunt the Raiders again with two easy wins for the Chargers this season.

    Chiefs 14-3
    Chargers 12-5
    Broncos 10-7
    Raiders 5-12

  7. Shouldn’t have gone to the Chargers then. They won’t even be 2nd in the division. Herbert and the offense are great but the defense has more holes than Swiss cheese.

  8. Yes, you are correct Khalil, there is a tournament and the whole point of the game is to win it, every player’s goal is the same as your’s.

  9. The Chargers franchise seems to be on the up lately. As a longtime fan of another AFC west team I have complete faith that the Spanoses will screw things up soon

  10. You get the impression this guy doesn’t get what it takes to win the down and dirty playoff game where he isn’t focusing on boosting his stats.

Nice player, but there’s a reason why he doesn’t win.

  11. Then why chase the money? Take a deal that allows you to be on a winning contender. Look at the warriors in the NBA, why doesn’t Mack go to buffalo, or cincy? Return of the Mack

  12. His personally stated goal of being the best to ever play the game has not been achieved. He just adjusted his goals after getting PAID by the Bears.

  13. Not HOF. Hasn’t been relevant in years. If ever. He had a stretch of great play but never accomplished enough to be a great. He isn’t even top five bears all time LBs.

  14. Mack is one of the most overrated defensive players ever – he plays EXACTLY two downs with any vigor and goes on vacation the rest of the game.

  15. It’s still slightly surreal seeing someone talk about signing with contenders and then proceed to namedrop Buffalo and Cincinnati. Pretty cool that these teams are relevant again to this extent.

He was traded to the Chargers

  17. Like every other player in the NFL. Do what ever to pad stats because the best players get drafted to the worse teams, team focus and winning not that important. Get large free agent contract to the highest bidder which is usually another bad team, shut down and save body for a few years. Contract almost done pick it back up make some splash plays get another large contract. Made money, but well over the hill, accomplished nothing in the win column try to get on a championship caliber team for very small contract. Chargers with their “gut instinct” head coach are not that.

  18. Mack was still very good the Bears when he was healthy last year – he just got hurt early on and never was right. It all comes down to health!

  19. Some awful takes in here. Khalil Mack has never been relevant? Guy was the first person in league history to go 1st team All Pro at two positions in the same year.

That was when he was on the Raiders, if I was him I would have done the same thing to get traded! How can anyone blame him for wanting to get off that Raiders desert dumpster fire!
