The 49ers, who have had more than a few injuries in recent years, have suffered another one.

Defensive lineman Maurice Hurst suffered a torn biceps on Friday. Coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed the injury to reporters on Saturday.

As noted by Matt Barrows of TheAthletic.com, Hurst was in the starting lineup during Friday’s practice.

A fifth-round pick of the Raiders in 2018, Hurst started 10 games as a rookie. Last year, his first with the 49ers, Hurst made two appearances due to a calf problem.

  1. I hate seeing this happen. Injuries are just as big of a deal as skill and desire in determining which teams make the playoffs. The only (very minor) silver lining here is that it has happened so early that the team has time to bring in a replacement and get them up to speed.

    Lynch is really struggling.

It’s an injury. Nothing to do with him. You need to hide your smile a bit more.

  3. This man probably should have never been on the field. If he was fat and sloppy they should have worked him out on his own. They B paying him anyway.

  4. These torn bicep and pec muscle injuries seem to be occurring more frequently. Wonder if there’s a level of being too muscled?

  5. I hope he can come back. He was a first round pick until he had a heart problem and while he wouldn’t have lived up to that draft position, nobody wishes a guy like him any ill will.

  6. Friend or foe it sucks to see any person for any team to have a season ending injury before the season even starts.

  7. I must be getting old. When I read stuff like this it just tears my heart out and I’m a Steeler fan.

I can’t wait till the pats have to sign Jones to a massive extension… then he’ll back off on his cap hell comments.
Otherwise he’ll always be a mouth piece for his love of BB. And creepy Kraft

Why I only lift 16 ounces at a time.

  10. Who wants to see Joe Shlobotnick play? This is bad all around. My wife is a cardiac nurse and said its common with Aortic Stenosis. That must be his heart problem, and that is bigger than a bicep or football. GOD bless him.

When you see 49er out for year…

    You automatically assume Nick Bosa”

Bosa played 19 games in ‘19 and 20 games in ‘21.

    Maybe come with some data?

I’m a Pats fan and even I agree with this ….

  13. Unfortunate news. Starting with the Raiders, I’m not sure if that helped his career. I was hoping he could take over in his second year in red. His Michigan tape was a lot of fun back then.

  14. Hurst is considered to be an exceptional inside pass rusher by many team beat writers. It’s unfortunate because, you can never have enough good pass rushers.

I say they keep Hurst and put him on the PUP and hopefully he’s healthy by week 12 for a late season activation and bring him back for a playoff push.

He won’t count as a roster spot and he’s talented enough to hold onto him
