Travon Walker promises “plenty more to come” after sack in Hall of Fame Game

USA Today

Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker, the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, didn’t take long to make his presence felt in his preseason debut.

Walker had a first-quarter sack against the Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game, and afterward he promised he’d be making that kind of impact for a long time.

“I hadn’t hit an opponent in a while,” Walker said. “It was definitely an exciting feeling. It was my first one, but plenty more to come.”

It may only be preseason, but Walker was thrilled to be out there.

“It was exciting to be out there on an actual NFL roster, playing for an NFL team against other NFL players,” Walker said.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson liked what he saw of Walker.

“I thought he was good. I think I saw, felt, could see his length, his athleticism, his power. He’s going to be a good player,” Pederson said.

The Jaguars haven’t had many reasons for optimism in recent years, but Walker provides one.

  1. Too bad the rest of the Jags, outside of Snoop Conner, didn’t provide any reason for optimism.

  2. OMG stop. The QB literally walked right into Walker. Hutchinson will be the better player and the Jags will regret drafting Walker.

  3. Hopefully for Jacksonvilles sake he has a little more aggression with the rest of his sacks!

  4. The Raiders offensive line is among the worst in the league. Their defense is well below par also.

5-12 season coming up for the Raiders.

  5. Watched every play he was in for, and while he didn’t look lost, he looked like he needs to get used to playing with the big kids. Kudos on being on the right place for the sack. Now get stronger because you’re going to need it.

Maybe so. They play 12 games against teams that finished last season with a winning record. Worst oline and below par defense… that was the case last year… and they lost their HC and they lost their #1 receiver, yet went 10-7. You’re also the guy that “guaranteed” the Rams would make Raheem Morris their new HC within two weeks following the SB.

  7. Not sure how you either criticize or praise the guy after a relatively brief appearance in the Hall of Fame game.

  8. I like this player a lot, and it’s too bad he got wrapped up in the middle of the Trent Balke/Jim Harbaugh feud thing. Only reason Jax passed on Hutchinson is because Balke hates Harbaugh. He was never going to take a MI kid no.1 overall. And because of that the careers of Walker & Hutchinson will always be compared and the pick will always be scrutinized.

Couldn’t agree more. Everyone in that division made critical improvements while the Raiders invested the farm in a WR. Their O Line and defense is going to be their demise.

  10. A sack on the HOF Game. It’s like Favre allowing Strahan to sack him for the record.

  11. It would be one thing if he went out and bagged 3 or 4 sacks. He had one sack! One!

  12. Walker is celebrating beating linemen, most of whom will not even make the cut to the NFL.

Exactly. Don’t get ahead of yourself big guy. Let’s see you do it against Quentin Nelson or Zach Martin.

  14. The talking after the game is something he should rein in. But I did like it when the QB kind of step in towards him and took the sack, that the kid didn’t jump up and pump the air and act like he made a superbowl winning stop. He just got back in the huddle and went on with the next play….that I liked. Good luck kid in 2022

  15. Stidham fell in his lap and he couldn’t even bring him down. When I seen the highlight I was expecting a bang.
