Mason Rudolph‘s work in Steelers training camp has drawn some good reviews, but the quarterback knows that it will take more than good practice sessions to wind up ahead of Mitch Trubisky and first-round pick Kenny Pickett on the depth chart.

Rudolph is currently listed as the No. 2 quarterback behind Trubisky and sees Saturday’s game against the Seahawks as a key moment in his bid to move up the ladder. He said on Monday that you strive for “an impressive collective body of work, but games are more important” when it comes to evaluating who are the best players to have on the field come September.

“I think you’re always trying to prove yourself,” Rudolph said, via Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Every chance you get, you want to prove it. It’s one thing to do it in practice. It’s another to do it in a stadium. We have a lot of young guys, and I’m excited to lead those guys and make them feel comfortable out there when the bullets are flying.”

The Steelers have not shared any plans for playing time for quarterbacks or any other positions at this point. That decision may shed some light into how much of a chance Rudolph has to leapfrog Trubisky before the preseason is over.

  1. Steeler fans keep trying to convince themselves that they have the best QB room in the league. lol

  2. Most Steelers fan root for him to do well so he can be shipped to a needy team by Game 1 for a 2023 low draft choice.

If we were waiting to see how he reacted to the Garrett mugging, we saw what we needed to see when after a week in street clothes he came out and three 4 INTS against Cincy and lost his job to a guy named Duck who may be on Duck Dynasty. Adversity doesn’t test character, it reveals it.

  3. It will take a lot for Rudolph to overcome the stink of that 16-16 tie against the lowly Lions last year. — 30 of 50 for 242 (4.8 average) / 1 TD / 1 pick — That is the reason the Steelers signed Trubisky and drafted Pickett.

  4. After witnessing a couple of pre-season outings with this Quarterback room, the Steelers will give the 49ers anything they want for Jimmy G.

  5. I hope that Rudolph wins the QB1 job. He has the most experience in this offense and it makes Trubisky available for trade.

  6. The Pittsburgh Rusty Nails and the Cleveland Yutzes QB rooms would make great guests on Family Feud. Imagine their answers….

  7. Any of the three will have more mobility and a stronger arm than Ben had last season. So I honestly am comfortable with any of them winning the starting position.

  8. The Steelers signed Trubisky for 2 yrs. Then reached in the draft, and will pray Kenny Pickett is their future. I would say each guy has a 8-9 win ceiling, playing in the tough AFCN, for years to come. So, my guess is none of these 3 guys will still be with the team in 5 yrs.
