Jets coach Robert Saleh said Chris Streveler had “one of the greatest preseasons in the history of football.” Streveler became a preseason legend in New York, completing 72.7 percent of his passes for 277 yards with five touchdowns and a 120.9 passer rating, while leading them in rushing.

He engineered three comeback victories, throwing game-winners with 16 seconds and 22 seconds left and leading the team back from a 16-3 deficit in the second preseason game.

Streveler surely did enough to earn a spot at least on some team’s practice squad, but he did not make the Jets’ 53-player roster.

The Jets have informed Streveler of his release Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Jets have Joe Flacco and Mike White behind Zach Wilson, who currently is injured.

  1. Streveler isn’t a very good qb. Shows a flash here and there. He’s just tooling around in the nfl till he has accrued enough time for a pension

  2. What do you expect from the JETS? I hope he burns up some serious karma when his new team plays the Jersey Greens.

  3. They are hoping he clears and can come back on their practice squad. It makes sense to do it now before the trade deadline to get it out there in case someone wants him and they can get something for him. Tomorrow, he is released and open, fair game to all who watched him play. He is good and would be worth bringing in for teams like the Seahawks, who clearly have only three backup QBs.

  4. Wow. Just. wow. Saleh will make a great commentator if this is indicative of his overall judgment. The faith that some experts (chris simms included) have in Flacco is unwarranted. I think Simms is basing it off loyalty to an NFL veteran, but as an objective observer, I watched Flacco look old and slow last season and I promise he will be nothing more than a punching bag in that pocket. The Jets deserve better. Saleh proves that even smart, articulate coaches can make mistakes of judgment.

  5. 1. Streveler – smart, accurate, great wheels, balls under pressure, winner
    2. fragile Zach puts nothing on the field
    3. fragile & lost 3nOut White
    4. pick6 Sleepy Joe Flacco
