Running back Duke Johnson isn’t the only notable veteran departing Buffalo on Tuesday.

The Bills are also releasing tight end O.J. Howard, according to multiple reports.

Howard signed a one-year deal with Buffalo in March that guaranteed him just over $3 million. But the guaranteed money involved apparently was not enough to keep him around.

The club will move to the 53-man roster with Dawson Knox, Quintin Morris, and Tommy Sweeney as their three tight ends.

Howard, who spent his first five seasons with the Buccaneers, had 14 catches for 135 yards with one touchdown in 2021. The 19th overall pick of the 2017 draft, Howard has 119 career catches for 1,737 yards with 15 TDs.

  1. Perhaps a product of the system he was drafted in but man what a disappointment at pick 19 for what was thought to be such offensive prowess out of college.

  2. Howard, Njoku, and Engram all drafted together in the 1st round. This is why you should wait on TEs unless you’re absolutely sure (Pitts).

  3. The other guys really outplayed Howard. To the extent that despite almost no cap savings, we are still cutting him.

Tough to make the deepest team in the league

  4. But he’s not old right? No good? A bust? Should my Giants grab him? Will he clear waivers?

  5. Same class as a Njoku and Engram right? None of them really panned out they way you’d hope, eh?

  6. Something is clearly off with Howard. So much untapped potential, just got to find the right coach to get it.

  7. LOL!

What a bust. Beane loves importing busts like Joe Douglas does. It’s the strangest. Shaq Lawson is back in Buffalo. Lotulelei was imported from Carolina.

The list goes on and on and on.

  8. LOL! Belichik just loves importing busts. Malcolm Butler, Joe Judge, Matt Patricia. The list goes on and on and on

  9. Hard to stay committed when you’re getting $3,000,000 and you can go home and save your body for the rest of your life.

  10. OJ was a bust in Tampa. Not shocked he got cut. I simply don’t think he enjoys playing football.
