Patriots add Lynn Bowden to practice squad

One of the Raiders’ many recent draft mistakes will get another chance in New England.

Lynn Bowden is signing with the Patriots’ practice squad, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

At Kentucky, Bowden won the 2019 Paul Hornung Award, which goes to the most versatile player in college football. Bowden played quarterback, running back, wide receiver and return man for the Wildcats.

But he didn’t have a well-defined position to play in the NFL, which is why it was surprising that the Raiders spent a third-round draft pick on him in 2020. In an even more surprising move, the Raiders then traded him before the regular season, getting just a swap of late-round picks from the Dolphins for him.

As a rookie in Miami, Bowden caught 28 passes for 211 yards, ran nine times for 32 yards and threw two passes, completing one of them. In 2021, Bowden missed the entire season with a hamstring injury, and the Dolphins cut him this week.

Bill Belichick likes versatile players, and perhaps he’ll be able to find a use for Bowden where the Raiders and Dolphins couldn’t.

  1. Belichick picks up a Dolphins cut to grill for info every year like clockwork. No coincidence they play Week 1.

  2. Yes, I remember when Belichick picked up that scrub Wes Welker years ago just to pump him for info about the Dolphins playbook. I can’t recall what happened after that, probably they cut him the next week after he had told them everything he knew.

  3. Anyone could of predicted this move. Miami plays NE in week 1
Typical BB move. He will be released by week 3

  4. Yeah, Bowden at this point is equivalent to Josh Rosen. 3 teams in 3 years with virtually no statistics whatsoever…

Absolutely. They may also use him to mirror Tua in practice as well. All good stuff.

What will MIami be practicing? Defending stretch runs over and over? lol

Yeah, and he’s made several of them into great players.

  7. Hilarious, called this last week in another forum. Patriots are cheaters and always have been. Every year they poach a Dolphin’s cut before they play them to get information. Bowden has athletic talent but there is a reason the Raiders traded him and now the Dolphin’s released him. But go ahead Billacheat, get what you can.

  8. Devante Parker is the Pats best receiver. Don’t knock Bowden. After the preseason I saw, I will take another Miami castoff. Even if its to pick his brain on Mcdaniel.

  9. So there’s criticism for NE signing a former Dolphin, but none for the Dolphins signing former Patriot Trey Flowers 🤔 Lol that makes sense…

    It won’t be punting.

Maybe the Bills should practice how to stop a team in 13 seconds

Try hard and think about this one before you comment. Trey Flowers last played for what team?
    Detroit Lions

Was Trey Flowers at the Patriot’s training camp and involved with their playbook for the last 4 weeks?
No… He was a free agent rehabbing to play football.

Flowers wasn’t just cut from the Pats, he’s been with Lions last two years. He wouldn’t be able to provide ANY info on the pats. Tua will be 4-0 against pats after week 1.

  13. Belechick turned college QB Edelman into a slot receiver.SB MVP James White went from WR to RB. LB Mike Vrable played TE in RedZone situations and caught 7-8 passes, all for TDs, including 2 in separate SBs. Belechick is like HOF HC Bill Walsh in that he doesn’t care what you can’t do but focused on what you can do. Bowden couldn’t have gone to a better place to find a niche in the NFL.

Cool- let’s hear back from you when Bowden is cut from the practice squad after week 3.

  16. I’m a Dolphin fan, but look this move is clearly within the rules. So I’m not going to call Belichick a cheater for this… that doesn’t make sense. I’m just not sure it really helps them all that much.

no way they can prepare for the speed of Hill, Waddle, Edmunds and Mostert.

even in their best seasons with Tom Brady at QB New England always had tough time in South Florida.

Who told you it was Belichick not Tom Brady?

if what you (want to) believe is true, he should be able to do it now, right?

Thirteen seconds and four consecutive SB losses and the Bills fans like to rub Pats fans’ noses in a couple of rebuild years. Comical. This is from a non Pats fan.

  19. They definitely have room for him on that barren joke of an overpaid roster. He’s probably their top option at QB, WR, and every spot in the secondary.
