As Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack prepares to face the Raiders on Sunday, he’s not thinking about revenge.

Mack was drafted by the Raiders in 2014 and traded to the Bears amid a contract dispute in 2018. Now he’s been traded to the Chargers and will face the Raiders in Week One, but he says anyone he had a problem with during his contract dispute is long gone.

“I mean the people that I didn’t like probably aren’t there anymore,” Mack said, via Joe Reedy of the Associated Press. “I’ll always have respect for the organization.”

One person Mack did like is quarterback Derek Carr, who was drafted the same year as Mack.

That’s my brother,” Mack said of Carr, via SI.com. “I like to talk trash here and there. I feel like that’s a bond that can’t be broken when it comes to that, but come Sunday it’s on and poppin’. . . . He’s an ultimate competitor. One of the best in the game. Somebody that I highly respect when it comes to the leadership aspect, as well as the quarterback position.”

Mack will try his best to sack Carr on Sunday, but they’ll share a hug after the game, and their motivation to beat each other is about competition, not revenge.

  1. The deal breaker that shipped Khalil Mack to the Bears was owner Mark Davis constant insistence Khalil use his barber. Khalil refused and was promptly traded. Mack didn’t want to look like a 67 yr old billionaire.

  2. Mack wont go down as one of the biggest bust like Leaf and Russel but he;s up there. Got a sack on his first play with the bears then took the season off. It was the rush of others who helped him look good. Alone, hes a bum

  3. The disrespect that Gruden showed to Mack was just one more reason I was not excited by “The Return of Chucky’.

  4. Raiders fans have talked more trash about Mack than any other player to justify the terrible trade deal that may have worked for a competent team to get value. The Mack trade was a complete failure and the Raiders claimed he was a bust, now they show respect?

This team is full of scandals, horrible decisions they don’t own up to and hypocrites.

  5. The one right move Gruden pulled in his tenure. Not paying this guy. The bears tried it and couldn’t get rid of him soon enough. Basically gave him to the Chargers. Probably one of the most overrated players to ever play.

  6. The Raiders’ OL is a hot, hot mess. Carr is one of the most turnover prone QBs in the league. Mack and Bosa should be able to exploit that on Sunday.

The Raiders never claimed he was a bust, thus the draft picks they received for him.

Reggie McKenzie insisted on players under contract simply show up to training camp even if they wanted a new contract. Everyone but one showed up, everyone but one got their deal worked.

Everyone, but one. The guy was under contract and no showed.

Exactly! New coaching staff. New defensive scheme. Leaders show up early and start leading. Mack quit on his team. He never showed up. Nobody would pay a guy big bucks if they don’t want to be there. Not the kind of leadership teams are looking for. Obviously, the Bears found that out too. Chucky wasn’t coaching the Bears. Don’t blame Gruden. Mack’s the one who quit on the Raiders.

  9. Iv always found it puzzling that every single NFL player and coach speaks very highly of Derek Carr, every one. Then we get certain media types, not many, but they go out of their way to publicly insult him saying he’s a fake and a fraud and his public persona is all an act. I’ll never understand that.
