Khalil Mack on his three-sack performance: It wasn’t good enough

Khalil Mack has not had double-digit sacks since 2018 when he earned defensive player of the year honors with 12.5. He had six in seven games last season.

The edge rusher had three sacks in his Chargers’ debut Sunday, the second-most sacks in a single game in his nine-year career.

Mack’s evaluation of his performance?

It wasn’t good enough. I left a lot of stuff out there and I have to get it corrected,” Mack said, via Joe Reedy of the Associated Press.

Mack became the third player in franchise history to make three sacks in an opener since 1982, joining Shawne Merriman and Rodney Harrison. He also totaled six tackles and seven quarterback pressures.

Mack and Joey Bosa combined for 4.5 sacks and 16 quarterback pressures against the Raiders.

“It’s great to talk ball on the sideline and just communicate about what we get and what each offensive tackle is giving us. So, to bounce ideas off each other throughout the game is good,” Mack said.

The Chargers play the Chiefs on Thursday night.

  1. Dang fine performance. Let’s see how’s he’s doing around mid-season. Be nice to see him racking up some numbers. Of course that o-line was like they had me taking reps at guard..un-good at best lol

  2. I want to know what the narratives will be when the Chiefs smash the Chargers? Short week too much to handle? Chargers rush defense needs one more player? Staley is almost, almost there? (Chadiha) Keenan Allen wasn’t playing?

If the Chargers squeak out a victory? Chargers are the best team in the AFC? Staley is a young coaching genious? Chargers are winning the SB?

Chargers didn’t look good against the Raiders. Carr was throwing the ball straight at their defenders and Raiders still almost won.

  3. He’s gonna feast on that horrible offensive line, and Mahomes is going to be running for his life all night

  4. When he’s right and has someone else the offense has to focus on he’s a great player. He’s not what he was when he was younger and free of wear and tear but still an apex predator. He never got easy sacks, his current pass rushing partner has benefited from more easy sacks in his second season then Mack’s whole career. earned them all and some seasons kept pace with guys who didn’t. . I loved him in Chicago but it was time to go. His contract wasn’t the problem, he was worth it but he wasn’t in a good enough situation to be able to produce as much as someone with his cap hit is expected to. He can in LA and I’m pulling for them because of him. First player I considered buying their jersey as a grown man. Still couldn’t. Putting a 20 something year olds name on my back proudly just seems weird to me. Good luck Khalil, you were great.

  5. he did the 3 sack performance before.. ask the packers in 2018 or whenver…. he made his debut.. and still lost…

losers lose and now he is playing for a losing coach.

  6. Mack owns the Raiders and rightfully so….The Raiders have been making horrible personnel decisions since the Bears fleeced them in the trade. The Raiders have zero return in value from that trade. Raiders will most likely finish in last place this season. They might make third place, but definitely won’t skate into a fluke appearance like last year.

Maybe you ate paint chips as a kid, but Mack (and Bosa) stopped the Raiders in week one by sacking Carr and forcing INTS.

He didn’t lose and the Raiders are the losing team and coach, not the Chargers, LOL!

He only had one sack in his first Bears start. He did return an INT for a TD. When healthy Mack is one of the best.

  9. Interpretation – I can take off two complete games and still be considered great when I’m merely part time.
