Dispute emerges over failure of Micah Parsons to appear on Undisputed

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has a deal in place to appear every Tuesday on FS1’s Undisputed. A dispute has emerged regarding his failure to appear on the first Tuesday after Week One.

As explained by Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Parsons didn’t show up for the segment, even though he would have been participating from a studio in his house.

“I don’t understand why, after FS1 put the equipment in his house, he’d go radio silent,” Shannon Sharpe said on Tuesday’s show, via Hill. “Just say, ‘Look, at this point in time I just want to focus on football. I’m sorry to have led you guys on but right now football is the most important thing and I’m not gonna be able to do it right now.’”

People from the show tried to contact Parsons all day Monday and into Tuesday morning. They contend Parsons snubbed them.

Parsons explained to reporters his decision to not appear on the show.

“My starting QB went down and we lost,” Parsons said, per Hill. “I just didn’t think it was appropriate for me to be on the show at that point. I need to step up and be a leader. It shouldn’t be on TV, it should be in this locker room. This is where my focus should be right now.”

So who focused on letting FS1 know that he wouldn’t be appearing on the show?

“I got people that handle that type of stuff,” Parsons said. “If there was a miscommunication on that part, I will correct that. I have nothing but love for Skip and Shannon. I wouldn’t just no-show anybody like that. A man is only as good as his word.”

But he gave his word to do the show every Tuesday. They presumably are paying him to do it. If you’re going to agree to do it, you do it no matter what happened in the prior game — win, loss, controversial finish, injury, complaints about a chip block, whatever. Even though Parsons has only one season in the NFL, he surely realizes that all sorts of things can happen that would make a Tuesday media appearance something other than a feel-good victory lap.

  1. no way this dude told his people to call fox and they ignored him and failed to do it. that said, a man is only as good as his word like dude said. meaning dude ain’t a very good man. he didn’t anticipate the heat generated by his no show and tossed some flunky under the bus to save face.

perhaps the comparisons to l.t. are not only on the field.

real mistake was getting anywhere near skip the phony cowboy fan.

  2. Parsons needs to make things right but he seems like a stand-up young guy. No need to question his integrity. Hopefully Skip and Shannon can act like grown-ups and work things out.

  3. Telling you, real colors are starting to show. Wait a few more weeks when they’re in a bigger hole and he’s completely invisible on the field due to all the attention he gets.

That’s exactly what he was expecting. A bunch of praise for the Cowboys latest win and about how well he played, then reality happened. This has nothing to do with being a leader. He’s just as much of a leader now as he was one he signed the contract with FS1. His ability to help his teammates has not changed. He just doesn’t want to deal with having to admit on TV how bad the Cowboys are.

Leaders don’t just bail on TV contract because it’s not the victory lap they expected so what does that make Parsons?

  5. Dallas is one of those teams that drafts immature “me” players.

I had it all along. Just wait until this guy pulls a Jamal Adams. Book it. That’s what he is. A Jamal Adams who just wants to blast into the backfield or play laterally. Great athlete, but not as good of a football player as people will claim. There’s a difference.

  6. Anyone who thinks they know the character of a person based on how they present themselves in public is naïve at best. Either in a positive or a negative light. Check what they do when the lights are off. That’s who they are. If you don’t believe that there is a “good ole boy” down in Mississippi that you should check out…

  7. Any time the Boys have drama in their lives America wins. Love to see this another losing season for the Boyz Book it

  10. That’s his right, but he was comfortable throwing a twitter tantrum over Lenny’s hit…after a loss and injury to his QB. The rationale is suspect.

  11. A LB diva. He wins defensive rookie of the year (deservedly so) and all of the sudden he thinks he walks on water. He’s not accountable to anyone.

  12. Barely a season and he’s already a drama queen. It’s as if cowboys get a dose of that the moment they are selected.

Take a cue from your fellow dpoy Nick bosa. After the lost season he was still 4th in sacks despite being most double teamed DE in the league. Not many sound bites coming from him. Or TJ for that matter.

  13. Takes quite a set of cajones to say a man is only as good as his word 2 days after you broke your word.

  14. Mink Parsons was still fuming he was taken out by a running back. His manhood was stinging. He lost all street cred. He felt disrespected. He is suffering from Turf Ego.
