The Chargers got some more bad injury news on Wednesday.

Head coach Brandon Staley told reporters that defensive end Joey Bosa needs to have surgery to repair the groin injury he suffered in last Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. Bosa is expected to return to action this season, but will go on injured reserve and miss at least four games before he’ll be eligible to make that return.

The Bosa announcement follows Monday’s news that left tackle Rashawn Slater and wide receiver Jalen Guyton suffered season-ending injuries. Slater ruptured his biceps tendon and Guyton tore his ACL.

Kyle Van Noy will likely join Khalil Mack as starters on the edge of the Chargers defense. Chris Rumph and the newly acquired Derrek Tuszka are also on hand.

  1. Total bummer. The Watts and Bosas are monsters that play with reckless abandon but it catches up with them quick.

  2. Joey Bosa is more like Jadeveon Clowney than he is the Watt brothers. I hope he has a full and swift recovery.

  3. The Chargers have too many serious injuries for it to be bad luck.
Training issues? Practice protocol issues? Who knows, but it’s certainly something going on.

  4. Well lets see how boy wonder Staley looks now that he’s not fielding a fully healthy All-Star roster. The rash of Chargers injuries usually happens by Week 6 so this is early even by their standards.

Lets see how they hold up because that so-called vaunted AFC West is starting to now look like the Chiefs and everyone else.

  5. Suddenly the 0-3 Raiders AFCW chances don’t look so bad with a sub-Wilson, Herbert, and MaHomes teams underperforming expectations.

  6. The three big injuries that used to never occur are now 3 of the top five: Achilles, Torn pec, and groin. All due to over bulked muscles.

  7. Before this season, TJ Watt missed 5 starts due to injury. Started at least 15 games in every season he has been in the league. The fact that people think he isn’t durable is comical. It’s gotta be jealousy. He should’ve been defensive MVP the last 3 years.

  8. Nothing compared to the bills injuries. Missing 7 starters on d and never seen anything like it where ran out of offensive lineman Sunday. It was surreal

  9. These a devastating injuries. You not only lose Bosa production but a lot of Mack’s as well. He so much better with a another focal point player on the line. And Slater, I don’t know much about but absolutely got to get great play out of his position as well to achieve what the Chargers were hoping to.
