Andy Dalton is likely to start for the Saints on Sunday against the Vikings, and he won’t have the Saints’ star receiver to throw to.

Jameis Winston, who has missed practice all week with back and ankle injuries, is doubtful for the game, according to head coach Dennis Allen. And wide receiver Michael Thomas has been ruled out with a foot injury.

The Saints flew Winston and Thomas to London for the week, so they surely thought at the time the team traveled that there was a decent chance they could play. But both have been slow to recover.

That continues a disappointing trend: Winston started the first seven games for the Saints last season and helped them to a 5-2 start, but then he was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Thomas’s injury problems have been even more severe: He missed the entire 2021 season and most of 2020.

Dalton will be backed up on Sunday by Taysom Hill. With Thomas out, the Saints’ promising rookie Chris Olave is likely to get even more passes thrown his way.

  1. Dalton gives them the best chance to win. The Vikings defensive strategy has been to play a soft zone with deep safeties and “hope” the offense can’t have long, sustained drives. It’s a gamble that has been a huge mistake. Any nfl QB can find open receivers if they have long enough. Goff took 0 sacks, 0 knockdowns, and like 2 QB pressures all last week. Abysmal defense and game plan by the Vikings. 3 blitzes were called after the first quarter.

  2. does thomas ever play? he realy pulled 1 over on the saints, but they had to know what they were getting into, he wanted a big contract after 1 or 2 good yrs now just cashing the checks. doing the least possible to still get paid. when will these teams learn, he has been way more of a headache then deep threat. winston, average game manager, but a little too frail. they kill jimmy g for getting hurt but winston gets a pass, why?

  3. WOW Thomas hasnt played in years! Stealing money at this point and the reason Coach Payton left.

The hate on Winston is too much, he has done great things for the organization
    Name them.

  5. And Viking fans say the Packers get all the breaks .. LOL .. thinking not after looking at who can’t play for the Saints.

With Thomas out Olave becomes the best WR in this game.

    Ya on the Saints.
