Zach Wilson: I’ve tried to take “a little bit of everything” from Aaron Rodgers

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will face the Packers for the first time in a regular season game on Sunday, but it won’t be his first visit to Green Bay.

The Jets had joint practices with the Packers in Wisconsin before the 2021 season and that gave Wilson a chance to meet a player he admired from a distance for many years. Wilson grew up as a big fan of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and called him “the quarterback I tried to replicate and steal things from” as he was growing up in Utah.

“A little bit of everything,” Wilson said, via Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post. “He’s extremely accurate underneath. The way he’s able to place the ball, and you see his completion percentage, how he takes care of the ball, and then he’s able to be that athletic, scramble-type quarterback a little bit, off-schedule, being able to create plays out of nothing while protecting himself. I like the way he plays in the offense and outside of the offense.”

Wilson hasn’t been able to replicate Rodgers’ production thus far in his career, but he finished strong in a Week Four win over the Steelers and played well in last Sunday’s win over the Dolphins. Piloting the Jets to another win this weekend would be another big step toward the kind of consistent success that the Jets were hoping to get when they drafted Wilson second overall last year.

Hopefully not his demeanor towards teammates, narrasisism or choking in big games

  2. If Zach Wilson wants some advice,he should call Ken O’Brien,Vinny Testaverde,Chad Pennington,Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith. All these men have a unique perspective on NY Jets football.

Have you seen this kid play? After he was drafted there was a photo going around of him taking a selfie of himself in a mirror.

This kid is a pretty boy, small, tucks and runs like Fields way too much and will be hurt again soon.

What he did he do, 50% passing vs awful Pitt? He’s terrible. He’s going get tuned up by GB.

  4. So much bravado in these comments from people that have clearly never watched Zach play. Keep underestimating him at your peril.

  5. Rodgers doesn’t usually go out of his way to help out QBs (even ones on his own team!) but he worked with Zach Wilson in the offseason.

Pretty cool to see. I doubt he would do the same for a QB like Mac Jones who lacks any potential.

  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets beat the Packers this weekend. Either way, that’s a lot of green on the field this Sunday.

  7. choking in big games

I assume in your mind that’s better than never making it to big games? The guy is 11-10 in the playoffs. Your team has to go back to the early 70’s to add up 11 playoff wins.

  8. Rodgers is 1 of only 6 QBs in NFL history with a QB rating over 100.

If that makes him a choker, I hope he needs the Heimlich every January.

And his QB rating is 96.8 this year (not against any team in the top 5 in defense) and last year in the playoffs at home it was 91.9. What’s going to happen when he plays a touch defense?

The MVP formerly known as AR is in decline.

Buccaneers. Win. Controlled the game for the most part.
