Are the Chiefs plotting a run at Odell Beckham, Jr.?

The news broke during Tuesday’s PFT Live that the Chiefs have restructured the contract of tight end Travis Kelce to create some much-needed cap space. Much needed for what?

Chris Simms said he’s heard the Chiefs are thinking about making a run at receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. That would make a ton of sense. Someone is going to get him. It undoubtedly will be a contender. Why not be the contender who gets him, since that means a competitor won’t?

“bUT hE’s NoT HeAlTHy!” some will say, and have said. Sure, he’s not yet cleared to play after suffering a torn ACL in the Super Bowl. But he’s getting there. And anyone who waits until he does, isn’t going to get him.

The key will be to move at the right time, and the right time will arrive before OBJ is 1oo-percent healthy. The early bird gets the worm. He who hesitates has lost. You snooze, you lose. Shit or get off the pot. Whatever the cliche, sayings become cliche because they’re time-honored and true.

The truth could be that the Chiefs are looking to add OBJ to a good-to-great receiving corps that will get a lot better if he’s healthy and effective. And the net gain becomes even greater, given that the Chiefs signing him means that, for example, the Bills won’t.

  1. They don’t need him. They’d be way better off adding some O-line depth or somebody to the defense. Even a running back would make more sense than OBJ.

  2. If I had to choose one it’d be McCaffrey – he’s more versatile than OBJ & used cautiously could help open up a already very good offense down the stretch.

  3. I don’t think they need him. I was impressed w/ their receiver corps this past Sunday. There is a lot of talent there. No one can really replace Hill in terms of being a big play threat.

  4. I think if there is a true edge rusher available that is where KC needs to go….Chiefs have some good players on the line but they just aren’t getting there and it exposes deficiencies in the secondary. Blitzing is working to a certain extent but I would rather see Sneed and others covering receivers rather than chasing the QB.

  5. They don’t need him. OL, defense, that’s what is going to make a difference where it counts.

OBJ has never been the difference in making any team better. He’s good for highlights and diminishing returns.

  6. Adding that cancer to a team guarantees when the team needs him, he’ll be out with turf ego.

I don’t think they need him

Any team can use an extra stud at WR come playoff time….. especially when injures are almost a certainty

  8. The Chiefs have cleared 3.55m for someone. It could be OBJ or maybe not. If thats all its going to cost for OBJ, then why havent the Rams signed him? Why do teams not consider him a keeper? I believe the Chiefs will probably sign him. But why havent other teams signed him, if he is the savior? Good luck Andy.

  9. “If thats all its going to cost for OBJ, then why havent the Rams signed him?”

Why would he? He’s already proven himself there and they gave 15 mil a year to Robinson instead. If he’s going to play somewhere for cheap, it’ll be where he has a good chance at another ring and somewhere that’s going to make him look attractive in free agency.

  10. I hate to say it as a Bills fan but the Chiefs need OBJ and they’ll probably get him. Kelce’s depth of target has declined significantly from when they had Tyreek. Mahomes clearly doesn’t trust his deeper targets, either their catching ability or their ability to get open. Odell does both of those. This is a smart move for KC. — Both Mahomes and Allen are trying to carry their offenses on their backs, and it’s unsustainable. Allen’s gonna get creamed on one of his runs without a decent RB and Mahomes is forcing the ball to every receiver regardless of who’s open. Today it looks impressive, but after Allen’s on IR or Mahomes’ INT rate spikes everybody will question the players themselves and not the GM’s forcing these generational talents into these positions.

Chiefs worried about Bills having home field advantage.

    ——-

As they should be, but one thing to note related to Bills having the homefield is that they could get a game like the 2020 Patriots game where no-one can throw it at all. The results of a game like that are somewhat random and maybe slightly favor a team that can run the ball between the tackles.

  12. With just $3.67mil of cap space left the Chiefs are definitely NOT getting McCaffrey and maybe not OBJ either! Why don’t you people check the cap space of these teams before writing ridiculous BS like this?

If I were OBJ I’d be blowing up the Eagles phones everyday!

I’ve read that McCaffrey would only be a sub-2 MILLION cap hit for anyone who trades for him. Why don’t people check the individuals cap hit before writing ridiculous BS?
