The Eagles did what the Eagles needed to do Thursday night to stay unbeaten. They outscored the Texans 15-3 in the second half, intercepting Davis Mills twice, to get out of Houston with a 29-17 victory.

Philadelphia moved to 8-0 for the first time in team history, while Houston fell to 1-6-1.

The Eagles weren’t overwhelming in gaining 360 yards to the Texans’ 303, but Javon Hargrave sacked Mills three times and James Bradberry and C.J. Gardner-Johnson each had an interception of Mills. It was Gardner-Johnson’s fifth interception of the season, with all of them coming in the past four games.

Houston reached the Philadelphia 21 with 2:17 remaining and a chance to cut the lead to a one-score game, while still holding all three timeouts. But Mills was picked by Bradberry at the Philadelphia 3.

Jalen Hurts, who grew up in the Houston area, returned home to complete 21 of 27 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 23 yards on nine carries but was sacked four times, including twice by Jerry Hughes, and lost a fumble. It was the Eagles’ first lost fumble of the season.

Dallas Goedert and A.J. Brown each caught a touchdown pass, with Goedert catching eight passes for 100 yards and Brown four for 59. Miles Sanders rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Mills went 13-of-22 for 154 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Dameon Pierce ran 27 times for 139 yards. The Texans were playing without No. 1 receiver Brandin Cooks, who was inactive after being upset at not being traded before the deadline.

  1. Traveling, 4 days rest, still held them to 17 and won by double digits. Still have never trailed in the 2nd half of a game. 8-0

  2. And the Texans won’t play a better team all year (can’t play better than a 7-0 team). This was their Super Bowl.

  3. Jalen growth been great to watch.

    Sirriani coach of the season.

Texans for one win team, do fight. Great effort.

  4. Wait a minute- Cooks didn’t play cuz he was upset he wasn’t traded? And he gets paid for that game? That can’t be right can it?
What the hell is going on with these cry-baby jerks! If I were the owner I would dock him for the game and cut him and refuse to pay his salary. Try pulling that crap in the real world!

Glad they won and had a dominant 2nd half but the defense didn’t show up for the first 30 minutes. The Eagles fell for the trap game but were thankfully able to recover. The Texans gave them plenty to work on during their mini bye.

  6. Not impressed. Eagles struggled badly and even got help a couple of times. Johnson clearly false started and that drive ended up in points. One and done once they play a real team thats healthy. Without a doubt. It’s going to be a Cowboys vs Giants conference game if the seeds line up.

  7. There’s plenty of hating in this thread. Though I share a portion of the sentiment. There isn’t a team in the NFC I would bet on to win the Super Bowl. The couple of teams I believe can rise to the occasion in the playoffs… aren’t winning/leading their division.

This year feels like we are in a parallel universe where guys who couldn’t, now can… somehow Trubiskey is the same in this universe.

The Eagles beat the Cowboys and the Vikings, handily I might add. Are they not “real teams?”

  9. Looks like Eagles REALLY MISSED The rookie DT Davis. 6’6″ and 336 fills a lot of space. With an open spot on roster, I’ll be curious who Howie “guru” Roseman finds to beef up the D. Eagles face some of the toughest runners in next 4 games.

  10. Where to begin: Houston with 4 minutes left apparently hasn’t heard of a hurry-up offense. Davis Mills took his sweet time, running out the play clock after every tackle late in the game and look confused about what an NFL QB is supposed to do. His coaches deserve even more blame but we know this is what Houston is as a franchise: cashing in on NFL money while running a cult-like organization more worried about its politics than putting a competitive team on the field.

  11. Short week against an inferior opponent , easy trap game potential , slow start …. and they still win by 2 touchdowns , it was a nice stress free 4th quarter. That’s what good teams do, and this is a really good team. The best team in the NFL.

  12. I’m glad the Eagles won but they had o line issues all night and they kept snapping the ball b4 Jalen was ready and that is what caused that fumble and caused a few other plays to blow up and Jalen even had to save a few plays. I thought that Jalen saved them so many times by not fumbling in the second half when the line gave up those sacks. To me the biggest thing in this game was the Eagles going for points when they got the ball with 37 seconds left in the first half. In my experience only the really good teams do that because most teams take a knee then. We need to get the run defense clamped up but i think the eagles have just decided to let teams run between the twenties because shell coverage is the defensive meta right now. I think part of the issues was the fact it was TNF and the Eagles didnt have the gameplan plays they have had all season especially in the run game but ill just be happy with the win

  13. If their defense plays like that against the Giants Barkley will rush for 200 yards.

Your precious Cowboys were clinging to a 10-6 lead vs Detroit with 8 minutes left in the 4th qtr awhile back. And Philly beat you already. But OK whatever makes you happy….

  15. Don’t take it from me, but go look at the trams they have beat. Outside of Dallas and the Vikes they have played nothing but ducks. And honestly the reast of the season is the same. The NFC is so weak this season. Not one team is scary good. The Super Bowl will be a complete blow out in favor of a AFC team if Roger doesn’t intervene with officiating.

  16. I love the comments from hater cowboy fans about 1 and done in the playoffs. They see it every year and are subject matter experts so maybe they see something the majority dont.

  17. Don’t stroll into games underestimating your opponent. That game could’ve easily went sideways for the Eagles

  18. The hurry-up/up-tempo offense seems to be selectively employed, which makes me think the NFL is rigged: Green Bay and Houston this week blatantly let the 40 second clock run all the way down late in the game on plays when they were down by 2 scores. The previous weeks, other teams have done the same and it makes me wonder: is this all planned? I think the obvious answer is Yes. Now we know

  19. Funny all the Cowboys fans claiming the Eagles will be one and done in the playoffs. That’s called speaking from experience…..cough cough

  20. We need to see Jalen Hurts win a shootout, or throw his team back into a game when down. So far the schedule’s been soft.

  21. Eagles have a legit chance to go undefeated they play in the worst division in sports plus they play a cupcake schedule for the remainder of the season… only tough team is the titans who play in the 2nd worst division in football

  22. Bills already beat the Chiefs, Ravens and Titans. Eagles would be 0-3 maybe 1-2 at best against those teams.

  23. “If their defense plays like that against the Giants Barkley will rush for 200 yards.”

And if those 200 yards don’t translate into touchdowns, we’ll still beat them. Running up and down the field sometimes benefits the other team if you can’t outscore them. We can drop 30+ points on any defense in this league. Go ahead and run run run out the clock—we don’t need the time. You’re doing us a favor.

Only the Bills could put a true “hurtin’” on this team.

    ————-

The same Bills that put up only 3 points in second half against a depleted Packers defense? They have been figured out.

  25. Soft schedule, media hype, typical Philly fervor. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes put win by 40 against this team. Mark my words.

    ========================================

You do realize you were playing the Texans, right?

Who also had 4 days rest, right?

The Texans are 1-6-1 for a reason and they hung with the Eagles for most the game. Eagles can’t stop the run – Pierce avg’d over 5 YPC. Wait until you hit a team who can run AND pass.

Worst division in football. NFC East 24-10 combined record, no team with a losing record currently. 15-7 in the conference. 9-3 against AFC teams. That’s what you consider to be the worst division in football?

  28. Don’t know if Hurts will become that franchise QB the Eagles have been looking for but he is much improved. Apparently he STUDIES.

  29. Not impressed with Phili – the refs were either blind or just oblivious when it came to the Eagles penalties that were obvious so either an NFL “fix” is in for a Super Bowl berth or someone needed to cover the point spread. And besides the Vikings who have they played that had winning records or wasn’t missing starters like a couple of particular QB’s down in Dallas & Miami?

  30. While the Eagles look good and they have a perfect record, they played against teams with an overall record of 25-36. The only teams that they played with winning records were Minnesota in week 2 and Dallas in week 6. The Dallas game was with their backup QB since Dak was out.

Yes, they were helped by an easy schedule….and the rest of the season looks the same.

  31. People worried about the softness of the Eagles schedule would do well to check out how many teams with a winning record the 72 Dolphins played.
