Sam Ehlinger: That’s an offense that’s unacceptable

The Colts have benched their quarterback and fired their offensive coordinator in recent weeks, but things aren’t getting any better on that side of the ball.

They hit a new low on Sunday in New England. The Colts went 0-of-14 on third downs, gave up nine sacks, picked up eight overall first downs, and gained 121 yards during a 26-3 thumping by the Patriots.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger was on the receiving end of those sacks in his second NFL start and there wasn’t anything positive for him to say after the game.

“I mean, that’s an offense that’s unacceptable. Our defense kept us in the game. And we didn’t do anything out there to help them out. They were playing their tails off and couldn’t get anything going in every phase,” Ehlinger said, via a transcript provided by the Patriots.

Colts head coach Frank Reich is running out of levers to pull as he tries to fix the Colts offense on the fly and continued struggles are going to keep him on the hot seat through the second half of this season.

  1. Playing Ehlinger over Matt Ryan is THE DEFINITION of tanking! Fine the organization $20 million. It’s disgusting.

  2. Lol Matt Ryan is done regardless of the play calling. This is as embarrassing as it gets for a fan base. Reich has destroyed careers. Coaches and players. Yet here we are. The rest of this season is going to be brutal. The schedule gets tougher. There isn’t anyone to take over even if he is fired. Sorry Colts. I’m out. See ya next year sounds so familiar lately.

  3. The Colts are using the prepaid envelope and are mailing it in. While the players are not tanking, the organization certainly is.

  4. I understand why they benched Ryan, what I don’t understand is why they started Ehlinger when they had Nick Foles on the bench? He’s a former Super Bowl MVP with a great history with Reich, you’re a game out of the wildcard places, why hand the keys to a very green kid? What was the point in signing Foles?

  5. But it was Wentz’s fault they didn’t make the playoffs last season!! Reich and Ballard will both be fired

    It’s #DeflateGate karma

  7. Maybe the barfly owner can fire reich and take over coaching duties.. He seems to have all the answers.

  8. Not karma. The Colts minus Peyton Manning are who we thought they were. Just like our Pacers. Wasting careers and making money since the glory days (ABA, one super bowl with an all time great)

  9. I don’t think Indy ever recovered from that loss to Jax at the end of last year. But Reich has proven he’s not some offensive genius and Ballard has proven he’s not a GM genius. 2 years ago everyone was lauding these guys for building such a great roster and as a fan of KC, I was like, who do they have that is so great besides Jonathan Taylor? This is a slow, slow team with no creativity on offense and nothing elite on D. They were always over-rated.

Now you want the nfl to dictate who teams should be playing?

  11. How DEFLATING it must be to be a colts fan…..
You team deserves every bit of the karma it’s feasting on now….GOD KNOWS!!!

  12. There was a time in the recent past when the Colts looked to become an NFL powerhouse. How quickly fortunes change.

  13. Frank Reich’s seat should be red hot. They fired the OC and the offense is still terrible. Reich calls the plays, doesn’t he?

  14. This was seriously the worst football game I’ve seen in 40 years. I’ve seen better high school football games. Embarrassment to the entire NFL – forget the Colts.

  15. How does Frank Reich even have a job anymore? Oh, I know….cuz he’s going to continue to drive this team straight into a top 5 pick in next year’s draft.
