The NFL announced its first flex scheduling change of the season on Tuesday.

The league is moving Week 11’s game between the Chiefs and Chargers in Los Angeles from Sunday afternoon to Sunday Night Football on NBC. The matchup between the Bengals and Steelers in Pittsburgh was originally scheduled for the standalone Sunday night spot, but it will now take the Chiefs-Chargers’ place as a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.

Moving the AFC West clash to Sunday night ensures a game between two teams with winning records — the Chiefs are 6-2 and the Chargers are 5-3 — for the prime time slot. It will also be the second prime time matchup between the teams this year. The Chiefs beat the Chargers 27-24 on Amazon’s first Thursday Night Football broadcast this year.

The Chiefs have been on Sunday night football twice this season, including their Week Nine overtime win over the Titans. They are scheduled for another appearance against the Broncos in Week 14. The Chargers will now be playing in back-to-back Sunday night games as they face the 49ers in Week 10. They are also slated to face the Rams in an all-Los Angeles affair in Week 17.

Games featuring teams playing on Sunday afternoon can be moved into the Sunday night window no later than 12 days before the game. There are no flex options to replace Thursday or Monday night games with more appealing matchups.

  1. I was sick of the Chiefs a few years ago but the NFL continues to shove them in our faces like they’re the only team in the NFL. I now understand the hate towards Brady and the Patriots all those years they were winning because the NFL went out of their way to put them in prime time as much as possible

  2. As a Chiefs fan, Not a fan of this. I hate watching Sunday night football games. Would prefer they had left the game in the afternoon time slot.

  3. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa – the Chiefs are getting exposure. Likely either a Pittsburgh Rusty Nail fan or a New England Cheater fan.

Which match up would you rather see in its place?

NBC is going after teams that generate ratings and whether you like it or not this game will get better ratings than the Browns/Steelers.

  5. Had the Steelers did their part and won some more games it likely wouldn’t have been flexed out. Plus after that sideshow Mahomes pulled off against Tennessee, the NFL is definitely going to put more of that on national television over Tomlin’s revolving door at the position.

  7. Hopefully when this happens they allow fans who purchased tickets to get a refund if they want.

  8. Chargers roster gutted with injuries. Then factor in the NFL’s love affair with the Chiefs and we ask ourselves, why even play the game? If Clete Blakeman does the game, just bet the farm on Chiefs Money Line

  9. Whoa whoa whoa…you mean to say that no one want to see Matt Canada’s offense in prime time???? LOL. We may score 10 pts in a prime time game.

Good – another sign to Tomlin to get rid of Canada.

I’d give up every prime time game to get rid of him.

  10. Ya, the league loves the Chiefs and the refs always gives them all the calls, they always win against lesser opponents…. Tell me you missed the Colts game, without telling me you missed the Colts game….

  11. The Chargers have lost so many key starters for the season that they aren’t the same explosive / watchable team they were last year. Their five wins have come against the Raiders, Texans, Browns, Broncos and Falcons. Chiefs vs. Chargers isn’t the same marquee matchup as they were in week #2 on Thursday night. We’ve already got the Bolts at the 49ers w/McCaffrey this Sunday night.

The Chiefs are getting so much national saturation that they’ve become like the Cowboys used to be, e.g., seemingly on every week regardless of the quality of the matchup.

That said, the (current) 6-2 Cowboys at 7-1 Vikings – or the 6-3 Jets at 5-4 New England – would have been better Sunday night picks for week 11 – involving teams less ripped apart by injuries.

  12. As a Steelers, fan theu stink & should be kicked downstairs. Chiefs & Mahomes are definitely AFC frontrunner if Josh Allen is injured long-term. They deserve the spotlight.

I know right? It stinks to admit it, but we are an eyesore.
