PFT’s Week 10 2022 NFL power rankings

1. Eagles (8-0; last week No. 1): Well, there’s no longer any debate as to whether the Bills should be in this spot.

2. Vikings (7-1; No. 5): It probably won’t last, but they’ve earned it one win at a time.

3. Chiefs (6-2; No. 3): They’re lucky they didn’t fall after a lackluster performance against a team starting an overmatched rookie quarterback.

4. Cowboys (6-2; No. 4): Could OBJ help take America’s Team back to the promised land?

5. Bills (6-2; No. 2): Beating the Chiefs in October won’t mean anything in January if they sleepwalk their way through games they should easily win.

6. Giants (6-2; No. 6): With two games still to play against the Eagles, they can make things interesting in the division and in the conference.

7. Ravens (6-3; No. 7): They’ve become one of the most dangerous teams in the AFC.

8. Seahawks (6-3; No. 9): Geno Smith, comeback player of the year, MVP, or both?

9. Dolphins (6-3; No. 10): The defense needs more work. The offense doesn’t.

10. Jets (6-3; No. 11): It’s another signature win in a year that already has more than a few of them.

11. 49ers (4-4; No. 12): Forget about the record. If enough of their core players stay healthy, they easily could end up in the Super Bowl.

12. Patriots (5-4; No. 13): Well, Bill Belichick finally got his revenge on Frank Reich for Super Bowl LII.

13. Chargers (5-3; No. 14): In a game between two teams that don’t seem to want to win, someone still had to.

14. Titans (5-3; No. 8): From Sunday (vs. Broncos) to Thursday (at Green Bay), we’ll learn a lot about this team.

15. Bengals (5-4; No. 15): They have the same record they had through nine games last year.

16. Buccaneers (4-5; No. 19): If they win the division, no team in the NFC will want to face them in the postseason.

17. Falcons (4-5; No. 16): On one hand, they’re close. On the other hand, they have a very long way to go.

18. Commanders (4-5; No. 17): Despite the loss, Taylor Heinicke may have wrested the job from Carson Wentz.

19. Browns (3-5; No. 21): Three more games to go until everything changes in Cleveland.

20. Rams (3-5; No. 20): They won their Super Bowl on credit, and the bill has quickly come due.

21. Bears (3-6; No. 22): They’ve figured out how to use Justin Fields, which may allow them to figure out how to take over the NFC North, as soon as 2023.

22. Packers (3-6; No. 18): This cheese has gotten moldy.

23. Cardinals (3-6; No. 23): Well, they won’t have to worry about having a good record evaporate down the stretch again.

24. Saints (3-6; No. 25): Alvin Kamara may be wishing he’d been traded.

25. Broncos (3-5; No. 26): It won’t be any easier for Nathaniel Hackett over the final half of the season.

26. Jaguars (3-6; No. 28): They’re just good enough to stay on the fringes of the conversation.

27. Lions (2-6; No. 32): Kneecaps are easier to bite when they’re made of room-temperature gouda.

28. Panthers (2-7; No. 27): Baker Mayfield should have stayed in Cleveland.

29. Steelers (2-6; No. 29): Dr. Oz is still waiting for the game to start.

30. Raiders (2-6; No. 30): Josh McDaniels could be the latest coordinator who is good enough at that job to keep getting promoted to a job he can’t do.

31. Texans (1-6-1; No. 31): Two teams in the same division are racing to the bottom.

32. Colts (3-5-1; No. 24): It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.

    Nope just hilarious

  2. I don’t think losing to the jets on the road should drop bills further than 2. Jets are legit this year.

    And I love my Vikings but we are basically somewhere between 6-10.

  3. Vikings fan here. We haven’t earned #2. We will if we beat Buffalo but now #5 or 6 feels right.

  4. This fan of the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles agrees with these power rankings.
    This is quite a down year for the NFL
    That is all.

  5. Niners or Seahawks will be in Super Bowl, AFC is better than NFC, hilarious that you dropped Indy to #32.

  6. My Week 10 2022 NFL Power Rankings

    1 – Eagles
    2 – Bills
    3 – Chiefs
    4 – Cowboys
    5 – Ravens
    6 – Vikings
    7 – Dolphins
    8 – Giants
    9 – Jets
    10 – 49ers
    11 – Seahawks
    12 – Titans
    13 – Bengals
    14 – Patriots
    15 – Chargers
    16 – Buccaneers
    17 – Rams
    18 – Falcons
    19 – Bears
    20 – Saints
    21 – Browns
    22 – Cardinals
    23 – Steelers
    24 – Packers
    25 – Jaguars
    26 – Broncos
    27 – Commanders
    28 – Raiders
    29 – Lions
    30 – Panthers
    31 – Texans
    32 – Colts

  7. I love how most good teams with winning records generally get a condescending line about how it’s a fluke or how they’re overachieving except the 4-4 49ers who we should just “forget about the record”.

  8. Other than the Eagles, everyone has demonstrated weakness, some worse than others. But the second half of the season will show who is addressing the issues.

  9. Vikings fan here. I love the spunk the team has, but if you look at who we’ve actually beaten, it’s less impressive. The team has held on an beaten lesser opponents, but still haven’t won against a legit team. I’d rank them more like 8 or 9.

  10. How can you have possibly dropped the Steelers all the way down to 29? No less than 4 teams that were ranked ahead of us lost this past weekend and yet we move DOWN 3 slots? Well, this Sunday the Steelers will start to stack wins as they run the table on their back nine. I only hope the Steelers don’t get over confident with this gimme win against the Saints as we still have a lot of work to do! Keep focused and GO STEELERS!

  11. When was the last time the AFC East had all 4 teams in the top 12.

    Sure wasn’t while Brady was in NE. Funny how the AFC East when Brady was here was the worst division in all of professional sports and now it’s good… and his division is now a steaming pile.

  12. Yeah, the Colts O sucks, but the D is legit, the best the Pats have faced this year and that includes Jets.

  13. #22 in the rankings? Mike, I thought we were friends. We should be ranked in the top 5 every week.

  14. Jets are the only team in the NFL this is undefeated against teams with a winning record when they played them (4-0). They are also 4-0 on the road. How are they not higher than #10? Still no respect.

  15. So the Steelers beat BOTH the bungles and the Bucs, but they are both ranked higher than us?? That’s absurd, we clearly outplayed and are better than both of those teams.

  16. I just KNOW that Aaron Rodgers is about to deliver one of his god-like performances against my cowboys this week

  17. Im happy to have gotten this quick glimpse of 12 because now we have a tough slate where I only see two games the rest of the season where I think we can beat the other team (one of them is the Jets so no sure bet there) and anything else will be an upset if we win it. For now I see if we go up or down during our bye week.

  18. 32. Colts (3-5-1; No. 24): It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.
    ——————————————————————
    Nah, just hilarious!

  19. We will see, but it would be hilarious to have 3 AFC East teams in the PO, and the Pats out. Like the complete oposite of the last 20 years.

  20. Dolphins beat the Ravens yet are ranked below them despite having the same record. Also noteworthy that all three of Miami’s losses came when Tua was injured. I get having them below the Bills who have a better record, but not Baltimore.
    Dolphins’ defence looked shambolic against the Bears, but that offence has shown it can score points in bunches, including against two teams ranked above them here.

    ———
    Steelers fans cry about everything. Even power rankings.

  22. I’m a Vikes Fan, but I would have put them at Five.
    (And the Bills and Chiefs should be swapped, considering the Bill beat them head up.

  23. Im a Giants fan and there is NO way that they are #6. Maybe 9 or 10 tops. Too many CURRENT injuries that have happened over the last few weeks. We will be lucky to win 4 of our last 9 games.

  24. New England at 12 is way too high. Their offense is truly offensive and this is coming from a Pats fan.

    After the past 24 hours, the Colts are ranked too high.

    —-
    You have your top ranked team and your 31st ranked team. Then there’s 50 feet of crap. Then there’s the Colts
    — Billy Beane

  26. New England has 4 division games left, two with the Bills. Climbing to the top of the division is a reach, but with a tight division, they could be serious spoilers for the three teams above them.

  27. “Yeah, the Colts O sucks, but the D is legit”
    It’s a three phase game. The SpecTeams sucks too. Blocked punt vs New England.

  28. 11. 49ers (4-4; No. 12): Forget about the record. If enough of their core players stay healthy, they easily could end up in the Super Bowl.>>>

    Has a .500 team ever been more beloved by the sports media?

  29. The last place patriots are an irrelevant joke team with no QB and no talent who have only beaten other irrelevant joke teams.

  30. The Raiders are way too high. Worst franchise in the NFL.

  31. This Bills guy would propose that both the Phins and the (new)Jets deserve to be in the top 7. Time will tell……

  32. Funny part about the AFC West is the Broncos and Raiders are so bad they’ll be making big changes to try and fix things. The Chargers on the other hand are winning just enough where they probably won’t even though they should. Herbert has taken huge steps backwards this year and just looks a bit off nearly every game.

  33. I actually agree with this list for once. Granted, the Vikings have flaws, but they know how to win games. Of course, November will prove who they really are.

    I also like Chicago’s rank. So long as they know how to use Fields, they could get tough. They still have a long way to go.

    The Colts are a mess after the past few days.

  34. I watch the Patriots every week and it’s hard to believe there are 20 teams ranked below them. It speaks to the overall quality of the league this year.

  35. Pats fan checking in. They are ranked waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high. Can you look at their schedule after the bye and honestly see them winning anything? Even a hobbled Bills, if Allen is injured, can still stymie their completely anemic and unimaginative offense. They should have already put it together by now but they have zero offensive identity except for, as someone else noted above… offensive. They are a bottom tier team and BB only has himself to blame by putting together this horrific coaching staff.

  36. kevines255 says:
    So now Vikings fans are complaining they are ranked too high?

    No, Vikings fans aren’t complaining that they’re ranked too high; our comments show that we are sensible fans who respond, whether positively or negatively, with a realistic view of where the team is ranked. Earlier in the year they were consistently ranked too low, and we made our thoughts known. Now we feel that the Vikings can’t legitimately be viewed as a better team than the Chiefs or Bills, for instance. Now, if they have a successful November it’ll be a different conversation, but no, not yet.

    The Cowboys since they were created and they’ve been mostly irrelevant since 1996.

  38. Everybody thought the Seahawks were going to fall apart without Wagner and Wilson. Now the Seahawks are actually good and the Rams and Broncos are hot garbage. Funny world.

  39. Oh I thought Broncos last. Hope they do, that way Seahawks get higher draft pick next yr. GO HAWKS

  40. I don’t care where my team is on this list. If healthy(big if) they can beat anyone, anywhere, anytime. Go Niners!

  41. Doesn’t matter where the vikings are ranked or what their record is, they are TOTAL PRETENDERS>>>>>>>not contenders. Fluke team isn’t scaring anyone.

    ———-

    They are putrid

  43. Why doesn’t Mark Davis just admit he made a mistake. Rehire Bissachia and send that fraud of a HC McDaniels back to being a Pats coordinator where he only belongs.

  44. As a Vikings fan, let me express my sincere apologies that they have not beaten any teams that they have not played yet. Or, (insert team name here), which would clearly make them better in your eyes.

  45. This is such a weird year. Records and performance seem oddly askew in many cases, and now every team except the Eagles has had a couple poor-enough weeks to question whether they have what it takes. (And the Eagles have had such a cupcake schedule that even at 8-0, they’re mostly untested.)

    It’s an ugly enough year already, but the specter of Watson returning is still as disgusting as it ever was. He should never be allowed on a field again. But even if he gets there, I don’t see “everything changing”. He always came up small when it counted on a better Texans team. Now he’s on a Browns team that’s worse than the previous few years in a division where the Ravens and Bengals are clearly the class.

  46. 6. Giants (6-2; No. 6): With two games still to play against the Eagles, they can make things interesting in the division and in the conference.
    —————
    Lol!! No. Those games will bring the giants back to earth. They are a middling team.

  47. To be a comeback player of the year, don’t you have to come back to something? Geno may be having an MVP season, but he’s never really done anything before….similar to Case Keenum a few years ago.

    Za’darius Smith is comeback player of the year

    Need to switch the dolphins and Jets
    You know the Jets did beat the fish 40-17 right?!

    And what do you think is going to happen when they go to Miami? Do you seriously think the Jets would have won the first game if Tua had been playing? Phins are kings of the gunslingers right now. Defence is utterly horrific, but thats a whole different post.

  50. Agree with the Vikings’ fans above — the team should be about #5. Funny how we’re all now being mocked for being realistic, something I’m not sure I’ve ever seen done with Packer fans.

  51. Someone vandalized my vehicle,… smashed the windshield and left 2 Packer tickets on the dashboard. HaHa,……… #22 ??
    I’m not sure they can beat the Bayport Pirates HS football team.

  52. “LOL no. The eagles will bring the Giants back to earth.”
    —–
    As a Giants fan, I’d agree that the Eagles look like quite the mismatch. But if I told you the Giants had games left vs. Tennessee and Baltimore, you’d probably say the same thing. Yet, Giants beat both of them. Beat GB in a hostile environment when they were over .500.

    That’s why they play the games. Ya never know. We’ve got the coaching now and history has shown what top flight coaching can do for the most “middling” of teams. Got us 3 extra chips we had no business getting so we’ll see!!

    I don’t care where my team is on this list. If healthy(big if) they can beat anyone, anywhere, anytime. Go Niners!
    —————————————
    See, this is why we love football. On paper, if healthy……. But they are still 4-4. I won’t bet against the Niners but the record is the record and at the end of the day (season) that is all that matters. Halfway through the season, they are tenuously clinging to the last wild card slot.

  54. The Chargers are ranked way too high. f they don’t develop a running game fast, and use Spiller more, I expect the 49ers to clobber them this Sunday night on NBC.

  55. Regarding the AFC playoffs…..and the AFC East in particular, which could conceivably put 4 teams into the playoffs this year…..The Patriots have a pretty tough schedule from here on out. Last season, they sputtered when they hit the tougher back end of the schedule, and their offense was playing much better last season, so it does not bode well, except for this: Every year, the Patriots seem to struggle and then right the ship and go on a run. They have not done that yet this season, and while it looks unlikely it will happen right now, I don’t think anyone will be surprised if they do it again. What will matter is to what extent they do it. They really cannot afford to lose any of their remaining division games at home vs the NYJs, Bills, or Dolphins. They also cannot afford to lose to the Bengals or Raiders, both AFC Conference games, as the tie breaker is going to be huge this year for the playoffs. They can maybe afford slip ups against the Vikings and Cardinals, but that wouldn’t be a great sign. Still, they could lose those and still be OK. Plus they have a game in Buffalo to end the season and with the #1 seed likely to be in play for Buffalo, that won’t be an easy game. They could lose that one, or really, either game with Buffalo and be OK if they win one of them. That would be 10-7, 3-3 in Division, and 9-3 in the AFC, with head to head over the NYJ’s (if they win that game in NE next week…a big if), which should be good for one of the playoff spots. However, they have not shown the consistency to pull that off, and they have little margin for error at this point. We will see if they can right the ship on offense over the bye week. The Chargers, Bengals, Patriots, Jets, and Dolphins will likely be fighting it out for 3 playoff slots. The Chargers have tough AFC matchups still to play with Miami, Tennessee, and the Chiefs, and they currently are 4-2 in the Conference. The Bengals have games against KC, NE, Ravens, Titans, Bills, and Browns, and are currently 2-2 in the Conference. That’s a tough road to hoe, EXCEPT, they have head to head wins over the Jets and Dolphins, with a game in NE to play, so they could conceivably have the edge in tie breakers unless they wind up with a poor Conference Record after the remaining games are played. It’s going to be a photo finish, just like the league likes it. All 5 of these teams have lacked consistency, though the Dolphins, when Tua plays, have been the most consistent so far. But we are only at the mid point of the race. More will be revealed.

    So now Vikings fans are complaining they are ranked too high?

    NO Kevin. We are just realistic fans who evaluate football honestly. Our team has played well enough to win close games, but have not dominated anybody or hit on all cylinders in any game. We rank teams that HAVE done so, a bit higher, as any rational football fan would.

  57. Eagles will have at least 4 losses by year’s end, finishing second or third in their division.

  58. I just can’t put anyone above the Bills and the Chiefs. Yes, the Bills lost to a good, underrated Jets team. But Allen is going through his usual cold spot that seems to happen each year.

    The ONLY team I’ve seen that looks like they’re close to the Bills/Chiefs is the Eagles and I still wouldn’t put them on that level.

    Vikings and Cowboys are both playing very well and are clearly top teams. But both teams have room to improve and while it’s not impossible by the end of the season they’re close to the Bills/Chiefs, neither is there yet.

  59. I’m one of those Viking fans who thinks the team is ranked too high, but the ranking also makes a lot of sense. You can nitpick every single team on the list. Everyone thinks Kansas City should be ranked ahead of the Vikings, but look at what they’ve done. They have some good wins, but they also lost to the #32 team on this list. They beat the #30 team by one point. In their most recent game, they barely beat a rookie quarterback who is clearly in over his head. Should they really be ranked ahead of a team that won every game except for one against the #1 team?

  60. I’m trying to wrap my head around the Bills dropping three spots for losing to the #11 Dolphins and the Dolphins only moving up one spot for beating the #2 team, while the Packers drop only four spots for losing to the #32 Lions and the Lions move up five spots for handing the Packers their fifth straight loss.

  61. THANK YOU!! As of right now, that’s a decent team with a lot of talent that’s been successful in the past despite QB play. They’re not even a lock to make the playoffs.

  62. Fine if you want to put Seattle at 8, but the Giants two spots above them? After Seattle dominated them? If not for a fumble by one of the surest-handed guys in the league, the Giants wouldn’t have had a single TD. It’s like you don’t even pay attention to the games themselves, just the hype.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Some of us have been around awhile, and you know what they say about the fall from high places. I will be delirious to be wrong, but I’ve seen some things.
  65. Florio picked a Viking/Chiefs Super Bowl in the beginning of the year. Maybe he fixed his crystal ball.
  66. 3. Chiefs (6-2; No. 3): They’re lucky they didn’t fall after a lackluster performance against a team starting an overmatched rookie quarterback.
    ————————————————————-
    So you’re judging the Chiefs by quality of win now? Funny how you neglected to mention the quality of the Titans D. Oh, and a little factor named Derrick Henry.
    This was a game that demonstrated that one of the best teams in the league can win close and ugly games when the offense isn’t playing well. The Chiefs D held the Titans to 22 yds and 1 first down after halftime. Seems to me like they’re more of a complete team than you’re giving them credit for and they’ll be the team no one wants to face come playoff time.
