The Colts are due to play in prime time three more times

Last month, America suffered through a so-bad-it’s-almost-good Thursday night game between the Colts and Broncos. Later this month and twice next month, we’ll get to see the new-look Colts three times in prime time.

Thanksgiving weekend ends on Monday night, with the currently 2-6 Steelers visiting the 3-5-1 Colts. Six days later, the Cowboys host the Colts on Sunday Night Football.

The night after Christmas, the Colts host the Chargers on Monday Night Football.

The Week 13 game can, in theory, be flexed out of the Sunday night slot. And if the opponent wasn’t the Cowboys, maybe it would be. But it’s the Cowboys. America’s Team. Even when they’re not good, they attract eyeballs.

Thus, while the final decision on Colts-Cowboys will be up to the NFL, it looks as if three of the eight games to be coached by interim coach Jeff Saturday will be presented to a captive national audience that is watching the game for one primary reason.

Because it’s on TV.

  1. Week 13 features Eagles- Titans, Seahawks Rams, Jets-Vikings, and CHIEFS BENGALS. All good flexes.

  2. This is what happens when you base your schedule on some pointy headed analysts expectations of how good or bad a team will be based on last year.

So.. how is that working out with the scheduling as it relates to:
Packers, Patriots, Steelers, Rams, and Broncos?

Each have 5, and the only one with a winning record currently are the Pats.

  3. Why were the Colts selected for so many national games in the first place? Not even close to a team with a high national interest level.

  4. Irsay is a genius. Either he finds a hidden gem in Jeff Saturday or they stink and you move on from him when you find your permanent coach next year and they get a high draft pick and get an opportunity to get a franchise QB next year. In either case there is a big benefit to this decision.

  5. Niners-Dolphins or Bengals-Chiefs really should be flexed into that Sunday night slot.

  6. I don’t know, with the Saturday hiring plus playing an inexperienced QB behind an OL having a tough season with little run game, they could be entertaining in a trainwreck sort of way.

  7. will be utterly fascinating if the Colts get rolled in Vegas. I suspect they will be, since the players all quit on the team after Irsay replaced Ryan with Ehlinger.

  8. Good to know Irsay told Goodell what to do during Deflategate after springing the idea.

Always nice to hear from insecure loser Irsay.

  9. Personally, I can’t stand watching the Cowboys. It’s like watching a cheap carnival act. You know at some point it’s all a ruse. It’s been that way for 30 years. It’s like watching the NY Giants from the mid sixties to the mid 80’s. Just Blah. Even if they have a winning record.

  10. Good Lord we’ve already had to watch like 3 or 4 prime time Broncos games are you trying to lose fans by forcing us to watch 3 more with the Colts?

  11. Sunday night Cowboys vs this dumpster fire? I’d rather watch reruns of The Morton Downey Junior show from the 1980s.

  12. Perhaps the NFL needs to flex games out of Monday and rid themselves of TNF! TNF be an occasional thing with teams coming off a bye. Generally once a month.

You’ve got to base the schedule on something. What would you suggest?

  14. I have to imagine there are lots of people that are enjoying watching that franchise implode

  15. The NFL schedule makers really screwed the pooch, didn’t they? The Colts weren’t a good team last year – what made them think anybody would tune in to see them now?

  16. Nobody wants this.

The league doesn’t want it. The networks don’t want it. The players don’t want it. Their fans don’t want it.

Have mercy and make their remaining games all early starts.
