Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert is reportedly set to miss the next chunk of the season.

NFL Media reports that Goedert will miss extended time with a shoulder injury. He is expected back before the season is over, but the Eagles will have to bounce back from Monday night’s loss to the Commanders without one of their key offensive players.

Goedert appeared to suffer the injury on one of the most consequential plays of the loss. Goedert caught a short pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts in the fourth quarter and lost the ball while being dragged to the field by his facemask, but officials missed the penalty and the call is not reviewable. Washington recovered and Goedert needed attention from trainers, although he remained in the game. The Commanders kicked a field goal to go up 26-21 a short time later.

Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra are the other tight ends on the 53-man roster in Philly. Tyree Jackson has been designated for return from the physically unable to perform list and could be activated this week.

  1. I guess you could call this injury to insult. Pretty horrible play for the Eagles and IMO had a definite effect on the outcome of the game.

I hope that back judge never refs another game again although I am surprised none of the other refs saw it either. The one replay shows the same view as the ref, looking right through the back of his head with nothing to block his view of one of the most blatant (and long) facemasks I have ever seen. He literally tackled him via facemask and didn’t let go until Goedert was on the ground with his head being yanked sideways and down.

It sure didn’t look like player safety first to me.

  3. So explain how his shoulder injury had anything to do with the missed face mask call? Seems I remember him grabbing at his leg as if it were his knee…oh and btw, refs are always missing and blowing calls so what’s new there??? You think Washington hasn’t had their fair share of blown calls?

As he was being pulled by the face mask, another Washington defender was on top of him driving his helmet into the ground. It was one dirty act compounded by another that drew zero flags.
But sure, the NFL cares about player safety…

  5. If the Eagles lose anymore players on offense Hurts will get exposed as the mediocre QB he really is.

  6. There needs to be a revision of the rules. The fact that you can review a turnover while disregarding a blatant dangerous penalty that results in an injury is backwards in every way.

  7. Tough loss. He’s a stud. Officials are missing a lot of Facemask calls this year. Not sure why. Like Goedert’s, Deebo’s was very obvious on Sunday night Football

  8. Reminds me of the time Cam Bynum got blindsided by the ref, wiping out a sure int, giving WA a huge momentum swing, and then the MN still won. But I thought the Eagles would have been good enough to overcome such adversity…I guess they’re not.

  9. This is why the league needs a video official (like college) who can review and overrule or call penalties as needed.
