Justin Jefferson on pace for NFL’s first 2,000-yard receiving season

The 2,000-yard season has never been reached by a wide receiver in NFL history, but Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson may do it this season.

Jefferson has 1,060 yards through nine games this season, putting him on pace for 2,003 yards in a 17-game season. That would be an NFL first.

The NFL record for receiving yards in a season is 1,964, set by Calvin Johnson in 2012. Johnson did it in 16 games, and Jefferson will benefit from the 17-game season as he pursues Johnson’s record.

Jefferson is actually not leading the league in receiving yards this season; Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill has 1,148 yards this season. But the Vikings have only played nine games and the Dolphins have played 10, so Hill is on pace to come up short of the record and finish with 1,952 yards in 17 games.

Jefferson is coming off a career-best 193 yards in Sunday’s win over the Bills. He’s showing no signs of slowing down, and at age 23 his best football may still be ahead of him.

  1. If he stays at this level for a 3-4 more seasons, they will start to refer to him as future HOFer.

  2. Justin Jefferson on pace to join a contender because the Vikings aren’t scaring anyone in the post season.

He needs to get off that overrated non-contender garbage team in Minny sooner than later.

  3. I don’t think the Vikings are good enough to win the post season, but they can enjoy the ride followed up with typical disappointment they’re used to.

    ZERO Championships in Minny.

  4. Justin Jefferson sucks….in passes! His route running is pure. He has size and is willing to be physical (see his block on Cook’s long TD run). He is inline for a huge payday soon and it will be interesting if he remains humble and hungry to remain elite afterwards. Appears to be a great teammate, which is easy to do when you win and are you are heavily involved. We all know there is a diva in most receivers and I hope we don’t see that from him.

  5. Oof, this thread is salty. Kid’s better than any of your receivers. Any team. On a team with the best record. Argue that.

  6. Let’s be honest here, the only reason the Vikings are 8-1 is because they’re skating on the poor performance of the Packers, Bears and Lions all at the same time.

You will disappear again when your overrated Vikings choke in the post season. Justin Jefferson is awesome, but a WR can’t carry your team, especially when your QB is Kirk Cousins, LOLOLOL!!

  8. We’re living it up in Minnesota. We’re lashing out at Packer fans and nearly everyone else. Have to relish it now . . . we know what the postseason brings . . . every year.

  9. 2,000 yards will be tough with outdoor games at Chi and GB still on the schedule, and who knows if he’ll even play in the last game which may not even matter (unless you’re a cheeser seeking some season ending team dignity). Entertaining to see tokyo back in the saddle after the Pack’s big win — as predictable as the tide.
