Lions activate Jameson Williams

Lions first-round pick Jameson Williams is set for his NFL debut.

Williams has spent the entire season on the non-football injury list after tearing his ACL during his final game at Alabama. Williams returned to practice ahead of Thanksgiving and the Lions announced that he has been added to the active roster on Saturday.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said early this week that it would be a tall order for Williams to get the green light to play against the Jaguars, but Saturday’s move suggests that Williams had a strong practice week.

The Lions also activated defensive lineman Romeo Okwara from the physically unable to perform list and placed his brother Julian on injured reserve. The linebacker has an elbow injury.

Offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher was promoted from the practice squad to complete the day’s moves.

  1. Only clown organizations like the Lions and Browns, would rush a 1st round pick back to play in a season where they are not making the playoffs…what is the payoff? Some game experience?….you risk the kid getting hurt again or worsening things in the recovery process. Just Dumb

  2. Good idea. This guy was something at bama but this ain’t college and he played without an injury most of his career.
This would of been a good second pick for a team that was deep in talent.
The lions turf is horrid I expect a short career for him to bad.

  3. curious moves perhaps to salvage last third of season;

if Goff can’t hit speed receivers he practiced with all summer, how is he to hit a new cruise missile?

  4. So we have a top 5 offensive line in the NFL, Amon Ra St. Brown and Jameson, Swift and Williams. We have a great salary cap going into next offseason, plenty of money to spend. Hutchinson is ROY, Okudah proved this year he’s a corner covering the #1 receiver(look at when he guarded Justin Jefferson) and were good at Safety. This new regime is different were on the way up. Get us maybe Bryce Young from the rams and a bunch of Defense in the draft were ready to roll. I wouldn’t trade Jameson for Tyreek and I would trade Waddle for St. Brown. Thats where were at!

  5. Good to get him some reps in love game action. Him and St Brown will absolutely feast next year

Twigs set to snap at the NFL level.

Honestly, what’s wrong with you? BB not returning your fan mail?

Not very familiar with ACL’s, eh? The kid tore his January 10th and had surgery 6 days later. The average time for ACL recovery is 8.5 months. Williams has been held out of play for almost 11 full months. People that overuse “clown” are usually exactly that.

  8. Right. And the Lions are clearly not out of the playoff hunt. The Lions are 3 games back of the wildcard

You sounded like you knew your stuff until you said you wouldn’t trade Jameson for Tyreek. Now I’d say you need your head examined.

Does Jameson beat women up? If not, then it’s a no brainer.

  11. Most ACLs these days aren’t death sentences. Not sure this guy was worth that high a pick when there was other defensive talent available but as a Packers fan I give the Lions brass credit. I see this team being sneaky good in a other year or two and if they get a quality QB in the draft, watch out NFCN.

  12. This coaching staff is right for first ballot HOF QB Russell Wilson.

    Tough like him.

Denver fans don’t understand or appreciate football like Detroit fans.

You could probably get him for Goff and 4 first round picks – a bargain for a top 1 – 2 QB in the NFL playing at the top of his game.

  13. Please note that Brad said “around December” way back when Jamo was drafted. This was the plan all along +/- a week assuming no major setbacks. Lions offense is about to get real dangerous.

Salary cap aside, there isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t want Tyreek. Heck, I’d say your own friends and other Lions fans would make that trade in a heartbeat.

  15. Quite happy with Tyreek and Waddle! My best friend is a Lions fan btw, we hope to see a Dolphins-Lions Super Bowl in our lifetimes. Lord Knows, our fanbases deserve it!
