The Steelers and Falcons played each other rightly for most of Sunday’s game, but when the Steelers most needed a play at the end of the game, they got one from their star safety.

Up 19-16, the Steelers took the clock down from 5:27 to 42 seconds with a four-minute drive. Pittsburgh then downed a punt at Atlanta’s 2-yard line, setting up a challenging situation, given that the Falcons had no remaining timeouts.

But on the first play, quarterback Marcus Mariota’s pass was picked off by Minkah Fitzpatrick to effectively end the game. Fitzpatrick read the play well and cut off the pass before it could get to receiver Drake London.

The Steelers had significant offensive success, especially throughout the first half. But the team had a hard time punching drives into the end zone. Pittsburgh scored on its first four possessions in the first half before running out the clock on its fifth.

Then Pittsburgh scored a field goal on its first drive of the second half to build a 19-6 lead.

The Falcons started their comeback with a 7-yard touchdown from Mariota to receiver MyCole Pruitt late in the third quarter. Then they got a 28-yard field goal by Younghoe Koo to make the score 19-16. But the club couldn’t get the needed defensive stop on Pittsburgh’s ensuing drive to have a realistic shot at scoring.

Kenny Pickett finished the game 16-of-28 passing for 197 yards with a touchdown. The Steelers rushed for 154 yards on 37 carries, with Najee Harris leading the way with 86 yards 17 carries.

Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota finished 13-of-24 for 167 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Now at 5-7, the Steelers will host the Ravens next Sunday for what becomes an even more intriguing matchup.

At 5-8, the Falcons will have their bye in Week 13.

  1. Stack it, rack it, and pack it! We move on to the hated Baltimore Ravens. GO STEELERS!

  2. Congrats to the Steelers for winning two in a row for the first time this year!

I hope the Steelers move on from Diontae Johnson, without Big Ben force feeding him the ball the past few years he would’ve have gotten that second contract from the Steelers. The guy doesn’t have what it takes to be a number 1

And George Pickens better stop the tantrums, grow up.

Great games from Pickett, Freirmuth , and Harris.
Great overal team effort from the Defence!!

  3. The heads of the doubters are exploding all over the place. Steelers are the most dangerous team in the NFL. Never doubt the Steel City!!!

  4. Obviously Mariota isn’t the answer, but that’s hopefully why we have Ridder. What needs to get fixed is that D line. No pressure on the QB today and Pittsburgh was moving down the field at will.

The Falcons should have drafted Mac Jones
    _______________
The Patriots should have drafted anyone other than Mac Jones. Nobody needs a first round quarterback that was pulled from the game at halftime due to poor play.

  6. Steelers are dangerous! They can explode for one touchdown on any given Sunday! Watch out NFL!

  7. Nice to get a W. This season isn’t about much more than building for next season and maybe ruining chances at the playoffs for another team, or two. 🙂

LOL LOl LOL LOl Lol Lol Yeah they threw for 197 yards and scored 19 points against a team allowing 250 yards and 24 points per game! Way to break out and be below average!!!! LOL LOL

  9. Another underachieving game by the Steelers. Anyone saying the Steelers are scaring anyone with wins against teams like Indy and Atl are fooling themselves. We’re building for next year but again the offense falls off in the 2nd half and barely scores any points. 1TD and 3 FGs in the first half and 1 fg in the 2nd half, that’s just not going to cut it against even average teams. We haven’t been competitive against teams with winning records this season.

  10. Just think Steeler fans, if you were in the NFC South you’d be top of the charts with the other has-been Patriots, as opposed to a current solid last place in AFC North.
