Derek Carr: I’m sure Baker Mayfield will love that moment for the rest of his life

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr looked shellshocked after Thursday night’s loss to the Rams, but he had to give credit to the quarterback who beat him.

Carr acknowledged that Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was claimed on waivers Tuesday and led the Rams to a 17-16 comeback win on Thursday, deserved to celebrate that moment forever.

“It’s tough, but it’s the NFL. These are professionals. There’s really cool stories and cool moments for some guys, and I’m sure Baker will love that moment for the rest of his life,” Carr said.

Carr said it’s remarkable that Mayfield could come in and learn enough of the playbook in 48 hours to lead the Rams to a win.

“It’s professional football, you’re going to get everybody’s best no matter who’s playing,” Carr said.

Mayfield certainly gave it his best, in a loss that was thrilling for the Rams and embarrassing for the Raiders.

  1. He may love that moment forever, but really, how bad of a football team you have to be to have that happen to you?

    Let it sink in,

you give up a 98 yard drive in 2 minutes with no timeouts to a QB that nobody wants and arrived no more than 48 hours ago. That’s crazy bad and utterly embarrassing!

  2. LOL, the amount of salt in that comment towards Mayfield.

I wonder what pro football moment Carr is cherishing for the rest of his life.

  3. Derek Carr reached a new all time low with poor play last night. He was truly awful. I have no idea how the Raiders lost that game.

  4. This win and that drive is something that Baker can rub in the face of all the doubters and haters. No one can take this amazing accomplishment away from him.

The Rams postgame locker room must have been one of the happiest places on the planet.

  5. Good for Baker. The guy has been ridden hard and put up wet. If he never wins again, he will have this. Maxx Crosby was a force last night. Let that be known.

  6. so the Raiders lost to a retired center in his 1st game only win..and a Qb who hasn’t unpacked his luggage

  7. Ive said it a lot this year. This team gives me nightmares. Another historic, terrible, total beatdown in all facets. I hate my team so much. 98 yards and stupid penalties again.

  8. Did anyone ask him why he only threw for 10 yards in the second half? That’s as bad as it gets.

Baker Mayfield, on a horrible team missing it’s top 2 WRs for less than 48 hrs totally blew the doors off of Carr’s performance throwing to Davante Adams and a healthy WR corps.

Mayfield 230 passing yds, Carr 138 passing yds. That’s worse than Russell Wilson’s worst game.

  9. Raiders should be embarrassed, to only have scored 16 points and to let up that long drive at the end of the game.

You are what your record says you are, and you’re 5-8, da Raiders stink

  10. Derek Carr should remember that for the rest of his life and acknowledge the fact he is not a qb of any relevaance at all

  11. Carr is going to plenty of heat on this, but as a QB, he’s hamstrung by McDaniels. Josh was a terrible HC then went back to the Pats and had to take a backseat to Brady and Bill. Now he gets his second chance and he’s got Carr on a short leash, an undisciplined team that doesn’t listen to him and he’s stubbornly repeating the same mistakes.

Carr is a good QB like Jared Goff is a good QB: with the right system and coaching, they can be very good. He was stuck under Chucky who wanted to BE the QB and now Josh who wants to show the HE is the man. I hope the Raiders trade him somewhere that he gets a shot with a decent support system around him like Goff has gotten.

  12. Probably that Carr makes more money than Matthew Stafford without having to win a super bowl

  13. Every time this guy talks I want to vomit. He’s corny and a garbage QB. Time to move on Raiders.

  14. I’m sure Derek Carr will cherish moments in the future on a different NFL. Cannot pay this guy 40 million a year for 127 yards per game.

  15. Everyone knew Vegas had issues when they lost to a ex-player tv analyst turned Head coach when they lost to the Colts. Then after 3 decent games with possible wildcard dreams, it all got crushed again when a castaway QB on his 3rd team with 48hrs of prep time under his belt crush the Raiders again. Couldn’t of happened to a better team, good luck.

  16. I loved watching that lollipop that Carr threw float into the hands of a Rams player in the end zone.

  17. Regardless of the holding penalties, Mayfield was phenomenal !! Can’t say anything positive about the raiders offensive offense in the second half. Looked like the assumed they had the win and coasted !!!

  18. After flirting with the end of his career, Mayfield pulled a rabbit out of his hat. Congratulations!

On another note: hey Davante, how has the move out of Green Bay been for you? At least you now have a Taco Bell in your kitchen.

  19. Like usual the at best average QB did another bone-head play and threw an interception right before the half near the end-zone, even 3 points and taking the sack probably put the game out of reach. Until the Raiders change the QB the best they can hope for is to be near 500.

  20. My old man is a die hard Raiders fan. After a hard days work in the cold, he sits cozily into his recliner to watch the game. Around half time he doses off like he usually does. When Baker made the game winning drive I turned off the TV and just let him sleep, then I headed home.

  21. This loss squarely is McDaniels. He went so conservative in the second half running the ball endlessly, even with an obviously injured Jacobs. Everyone in Sofi knew what was coming in the last 3 minutes from the Raider offense (run, run, run, punt). And why didn’t the Raiders run 30 yard play or even a Hail Mary type play to end the game? Instead it’s a 25 yard attempt. That’s all on McDaniels.

  22. Derek Carr: 11/20, 137 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs.

Not sure why Carr seems to get a free pass but he’s not a very good QB.

  23. Every NFL analyst: “Gee, McDaniels looked so brilliant coaching Brady, I can’t figure out why he hasn’t been able to make it work in Denver or Vegas”

  24. I didn’t realize Derek Carr was responsible for the Defense too,… until I started reading these posts. Just sayin’…..

  25. Carr is a joke he’s a bottom 3rd type of QB in a market that requires talent trading Rodgers to them this off season makes to much sense.

  26. Bring back those Baker progressive commercials i swear business like these are clueless we loved them
the possibilities of him leaving hicksville NC to LA are endless.
