The 7-7 Seahawks will be fighting for a wild-card berth without one of their best offensive players.

Coach Pete Carroll told reporters after the 21-13 loss to the 49ers that receiver Tyler Lockett suffered a broken index finger during the team’s final drive of the night. Lockett, Carroll added, could be out for the rest of the season.

I can’t fathom playing without Tyler,” Carroll told reporters.

Lockett, in his eighth year, has 964 receiving yards on the season, the most on the team. He had seven catches for 68 yards on Thursday night.

His absence will place more of a burden on other pass catchers, starting with DK Metcalf. It also will underscore the importance of the running game to Seattle’s shot at winning enough of the team’s remaining games to qualify for the postseason.

Seattle finishes the campaign with games against the Chiefs, Jets, and Rams. They’re currently the No. 8 seed in the NFC; they’ll hold that spot regardless of how the rest of Week 15 plays out.

  1. Lol..it’s more like they are throwing in the white flag. They have 4 1st round picks next two years and many more thanks to the Wilson trade.

  2. The Bengals’ Tyler Boyd had a bone sticking out of the skin when he broke his finger. He’s talking about playing a week later. Tougher? More desire? Just a better teammate? Yes!

  3. Maybe he can play and try to help salvage 8 wins. Lance Alworth played with two broken wrists one year.
    #StayInTheLineup …

  4. I love all the posts from people who miss work for a hangnail but have no problems judging pro athletes’ toughness.

  5. @Cruzcowboy. No they don’t! They had Denver’s #1 and #2 last year and they have Denver’s #1 and #2 and their own #1 and #2 this year.

  6. In the 2023 NFL Draft as current standings indicate,… the Seahawks have 4 of the top 47 picks,… 2 in the 1st round (2 and 17) and 2 in the 2nd round (34 and 47). the #2 and 34 picks are from Denver.

  7. This guy needs to tape it up and get out there for my fantasy league playoffs.

And yes, I do call of work for hangnails!

I’ll help you actually think this through…first, I don’t make millions of dollars per year playing a game. Second, you can ONLY speak for yourself and your hangnail. Third, Tyler Boyd seems to be okay playing with a broken finger (the bone was actually sticking out). So I would say Lockett’s “toughness” can and should come into question. And good luck with your hangnails.
