Dak Prescott: Eagles game about making a statement to ourselves

The Christmas Eve matchup between the Eagles and Cowboys was circled on many calendars for most of the season as a game that could decide the NFC East, but it lost a little luster last weekend.

Losing to the Jaguars left the Cowboys needing to win all their remaining games while the Eagles lose all of theirs in order for Dallas to win the division. That’s not a likely turn of events, even with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts dealing with a shoulder injury, so the Cowboys are shifting their focus a bit.

Quarterback Dak Prescott said that the team has an “understanding when you lose a game you’ve got one chance, and your only chance is really just to respond” with a better performance the next time out.

“If anything, it’s about making the statement to ourselves,” Prescott said, via the team’s website. “As you look at the season, we’ve had some games where we played really well. And we’ve had some games where we bit ourselves in the foot . . . So, this is about putting our best foot forward.”

Prescott has thrown seven interceptions in the last four games, so a clean game against the Eagles would be a good response for him individually and a boost to the team’s chances of beating their divisional rivals.

What does that even mean? If you want to say “we need to play better” just say it instead of whatever this is.

Also, how does he feel about throwing 5 TD passes in the final regular season game last year against the eagles 3rd stringers (resting for playoffs) just so he could have a Cowboys regular season record for TD passes in a single season? Fittingly, that was the last game they won. Not sure if they hung a banner or not as the regular season was so important to them.

  2. Anyone who follows the NFC East knows that the Cowboys will probably win, They usually split the 2 games,So I don’t know why everyone is making a big deal about the Cowboys winning it’s their turn. Fly Eagles Fly!

  3. It’s sad that Dak hasn’t be able to come to grips with the fact that he’s a game manager like Trent Dilfer or Alex Smith. When he embraces his role as an average QB in the NFL maybe the Cowboys will win something.

  4. I can’t wait until Minshew wins the game and recreates Jeff Garcia’s “Merry Christmas, Philadelphia” quote.

  5. And no doubt a poor game by Prescott would be a bad response by him individually and hurt the Cowboys’ chances of beating the Eagles.

  6. Not very profound. The best teams will lose a game they should’ve won. However, the best teams also always win the games they HAVE to win. Dak has shown a propensity to lose those games, and many times single handed. Regular season and playoffs he’s been the problem. You can’t go back to back weeks spewing the same line of crap. You almost lost to the WORST team in football, and follow it up to a loss against a below average team when you were up 17. Lamb is very good, but he’s not Cooper who they have away. Zeke is a joke. Pollard can’t block. All of that equals Dak making throws he shouldn’t make and now has 7 interceptions in 5 games or something close to that. It’s not good enough and quite frankly they’ve done nothing this season to show their fan base that they are better. At least last year you could say they beat up on the below average teams. This year not at all. They aren’t making it out of the first round. Also doesn’t help that the defense has completely fallen apart. Parsons will be okay, Diggs looks like a one and done good season. Getting beat left and right.

  7. NFC Championship in all likelihood will be Phili and SF (unless 49ers lose their 3rd QB this year).

  8. Hahaha nothing like hyping up a glorified exhibition game. I’m sure someone already said this but your statement was last week buddy. You’ll have a chance to make another but that ain’t Saturday

Won’t be much of a statement if you’re playing the backup QB.
    ———————–———————–———————–———————–———————–———————–———————–

Their backup QB has nothing to do with going up against their defense which still is formidable.

  10. It would be a huge mistake to underestimate this back up QB! Remember it was just a few days ago that Jacksonville put a 40 burger on Dallas!

  11. Eagles will be conservative. Good chance they face Dallas again. They have already proven they can beat the defense which has gotten a lot worse as the year has gone on. Philly offense with a rested Hurts 5 weeks from now with the full compliment of weapons will be lethal to all playoff teams. Niners Bosa will be made ineffective the way Philly schemes and gets the ball out. If they face Dallas or the niners in the playoffs Hurts will be getting the ball out on quick slants and screens to wear out a guy like Bosa. Then the second half will be run after run.

  12. The Philthy team is likely to phone it in, but should they work a little on defense, Dakota could be handing out early christmas presents via air delivery!

  13. Been a Cowboys fan all my life but I would not be surprised one bit if they lose here. I have zero faith in Dak or Mike McCarthy

Dak threw for 3 TDs and led the offense to 41 points in the first meeting in 2021. Adding an additional 10 points against against the backups makes sense.

Sounds nice in theory but actually implementing that in a real game is a different matter. Niners D has more threats than just Bosa. We’ll see what happens if they end up facing each other in the playoffs.

  16. The best thing the Cowboys have going for themselves is the number 5 seed and the NFC South winner in the 1st round. Win that game and they could get some momentum going.

  17. What a swell Christmas present Dak will give the Eagles on Christmas Eve. Not only a couple or few official game balls gifted to the secondary but also a first round bye AND the NFC East title. Say what you want about Dallas and their laughable’America’s Team’ nonsense but you gotta hand it to Dak, that’s one heck of a Christmas gift he’s going to deliver.

Merry Christmas everyone and hope for a better year ahead than the one just wrapping up.

The clock will strike midnight on their 3rd stringer .

It’s not a statement if you don’t beat Hurts

So, it wasn’t statement when the Eagles beat Rush!

  20. I can’t wait to see a shot of JJ pouting in his box. I do t know when it will happen, but we all know Dallas’ seasons always end the same way.

  21. I don’t know why this is newsworthy, but the Eagles have a lot more than Jalen hurts to thank for their record. Minshew is no slouch, either.

  22. The Cowboys just needs to win and don’t let the critics and trash talking control their own destiny.
