If Bills-Bengals is cancelled, should Bills-Chiefs AFC title game happen at neutral site?

There will be no perfect solution to the challenge presented by the suspension of the Bills-Bengals game on Monday night. As explained last night, the NFL will have to simply choose the best bad solution.

There could be a way to make the best bad solution a little better.

As Chris Simms and I talked through the various approaches to concluding the 2022 regular season, we strongly agreed that Bills-Bengals should not be finished. It should be declared a “no contest,” and playoff seeding should be determined based on winning percentage.

There are two problems with this approach. First, it delivers the AFC North title to the Bengals, even if they lose to the Ravens on Sunday, for the second time this season. Second, it hands the top seed in the AFC to the Chiefs, if Kansas City beats the Raiders in a Week 18 game currently scheduled for Saturday.

That seems extremely unfair to the Bills, who needed to win their final two games to become the top seed in the AFC — and to force the Chiefs to come to Buffalo in the playoffs. But it’s also unfair to expect the Chiefs to just give up the top seed and the bye week that goes along with it.

So here’s a compromise. The Chiefs get the bye, but if the Bills and the Chiefs qualify for the AFC Championship, the game is played at a neutral site.

The Chiefs would have to offer it, and the league would have to approve it. The approach would minimize the sort-of asterisk that would attach to Kansas City getting the Bills at Arrowhead Stadium for the third straight year in the postseason, if the Chiefs win.

Possible neutral sides include Detroit, Minnesota, and Indianapolis, if the goal is to avoid the elements. Places like Green Bay, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh become an option, if the teams and the league want weather to be a potential factor.

Before picking a location, the league would have to be willing to do it. The Chiefs would have to be will to accept it.

Again, there is no perfect solution. The league surely is trying to find the best and most fair (or least unfair) approach, given the circumstances.

  1. Unfair to the Chiefs? How about unfair to the Bengals which lose both the possibility of being either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed? Had they beat the bills, and the way they were going up and down the field and the Bills being down 2 DBs showed it very likely, beating the Ravens and KC losing and they get the top seed. Now they are relegated to No. 3 for no real reason.

  2. If the bills play against new England on Sunday. There is no reason they can’t resume the game.

    That’s the only fair option

  3. And what do the bengals get for agreeing to stop the game when they were beating Buffalo?

  4. How do you forget that the Bengals exist in this situation? They’d be moved to a 3 seed and have to potentially travel to Buffalo in the 2nd round. The game ended 7-3 in favor of the Bengals, who were also moving down the field to score again when tragedy struck. It should be Bengals win and they move to the 2 seed. I don’t get why the Bengals get zero consideration in these scenarios.

  5. Why don’t they settle the game with a kicking competition between the two teams? Either have each kicker start from the 5 yard line and move back 5 yards each kick till they miss OR have them each attempt a certain number of kicks at predetermined positions and the kicker with the most points wins the game.

  6. Uhm…Bengals were about to win big against Bills keeping them in play for the 1 seed, and a lock for 2 seed after they beat the Ravens this weekend.

That would have put the Bengals at 2-0 against the Bills and Chiefs respectively, and 4-0 against those teams over the last 2 years.

The game needs to be played.

Prayers up for Hamlin, sounds like he’s making progress.

  7. That’s really not fair to the Bengals either. Should they have won on Monday, they would’ve likely been the two seed and could’ve been the one if the Chiefs lost (though I doubt that happens).

That’s the difference between the divisional round game against the Bills being in Cincy or being in Buffalo.

  8. I agree that there’s really no reasonable way to have the Bills and Bengal game played at this point. That said it seems that an outcome does actually need to be determined so that the rest of the season can move forward as regularly as possible rather than coming up with convoluted ways of trying to make an unfair situation fair. And so the other teams and fans know where they stand moving forward. Calling the game a no contest just doesn’t work.

Instead I believe the game either must be called with the score standing where it was at the time the game was canceled, which would be somewhat unfair to the bengals but the fact remains that the Bills did score more points in the game. Or the game should be determined by a coin flip, all things being equal that may be the most fair solution for all involved. Coin flips are already on the books in the NFL rules for determining playoff tie breaking in a situation where games played cannot, it seems like under the circumstances it may be the cleanest option possible.

  9. It’s clear why, because the media people act like Josh Allen is the best QB in the league, while a player drafted 1 year before him is about to win his 3rd MVP.

  10. The Bengals were 7-3 and driving well, so Bills v Bengals at neutral and Chiefs v the winner also neutral and ALL 3 teams to express this wish in what is an awful situation. All prayers with Damar

  11. Have to correct my above comment I thought the Bills were ahead at the time the game was called. My mistake, I still believe that either you call the game with the final score at the time the game was called standing or the league does a coin flip. I’m neither a Bengal or Bills fan and don’t really care about the AFC overall so I have no bias here just the perspective of another teams fan.

  12. This is an unusual situation. We better get used to things not being fair. Things in life rarely are fair.

  13. This Bills Chiefs media narrative needs to stop already. Especially when neither of them are even better than the Bengals. Continue the disrespect though. You won’t be able to anymore once they win the Super Bowl.

  14. The game must be played. It affects wagers that were already made on Super Bowel results

  15. I’m a diehard Bills’ fan and this is a terrible idea. The ones that are getting screwed the most are the Bengals. At the time the game was canceled the Bengals were winning and there’s nothing for me to believe that they couldn’t finish what they started. As much as I love the Bills I don’t want to see them back into a top seeding, I’m sure that there’s plenty of Bills Mafia that would agree with me.

  16. Roger Goodell will get together with the people involved and they’ll make the right decision. Whatever they decide to do will be highly criticized by people who make a living criticizing these guys. Those voices will be ignored, and rightfully so. Clark Hunt is the son of Lamar Hunt. Mike Brown is the son of Paul Brown. Art Rooney II is the son of Art Rooney. All these guys grew up watching their father’s make the NFL what it is today. These men will look out for each other, and look out for the league. The Pegula’s are fairly new owners, but they’re class acts. They’ll respect the decision that’s best for all. I have no idea what they’re going to do, and I’m not really concerned. The NFL is in great hands.

  17. No, that will only punish a city that should get the revenue. It is time to realize that something tragic happen but we don’t need to make things worse. Cancel the game like it was COVID and move on. Can’t try to jam the game in throwing the rest of the league into chaos. It happened and everyone will have to deal with some minor ramification for it. Can’t say we won’t play which was the right thing to do but then say we want all what we had before. Either the Bengals won the game or it is a non-contest and you play the rest of the season as planned. There is a lot to think about when you start shuffling around games beyond franchises. Lots of vendors, street merchants, bar tenders, waitresses and many others around the stadium who rely on the games to support their families. Can’t say none of that matters.

  18. If Bills-Bengals isn’t finished, any solution is going to leave someone with the short end of the stick. In the very likely event that Kansas City beats Las Vegas, the Bengals are mathematically eliminated from getting the #1 seed, but KC can’t clinch because the Bills with a full schedule own the tiebreaker. If the game is canceled and this weekend goes to chalk, the Bengals at 4 losses are the logical odd man out with the Bills/Chiefs at 3 losses.

Instead of potentially having a neutral site AFC Championship game, I’d give the 2 seed the bye and make the 1 seed play the first round. It seems most fair in this scenario (Bengals eliminated from 1 seed) that the team forced to play the extra game gets the reward of hosting the conference championship should both teams advance. Let the Chiefs pick which they’d prefer as they have the better winning percentage, let the Bills pick as they beat the Chiefs and have the tiebreaker, flip a coin, or something else – in this unprecedented situation, give the team forced to play an extra game despite a very legitimate claim to the bye home field advantage

  19. Overlooking the Bengals when discussing scenarios seems like a tremendous oversight. If the Chiefs AND Bills win on Sunday. Those two should flip for a one seed. The two and three should come down to a coin flip as well.

If the Chiefs lose, the Bengals and Bills should flip for the one seed. The two and three should be flipped for as well.

  20. Finish the game week 18..The ONLY fair situation is EVERY team plays 17 games and the seeding goes by best record from those 17 games, period. The NFL created this mess with their greed by forcing a 17 game schedule over a 16 schedule.

  21. As others have stated, it is unfair to the Bengals, since it would remove the opportunity for the Bengals to earn the #1 seed. If they cancel and all 3 win next week Then its ok if KC gets the bye, but if they face Buffalo, Buffalo should get the home game due to head-to-head win. If KC and B Buffalo both lose and Cincy wins, then KC is 13-4, Cincy and Buff are 12-4. In that case, give KC thy bye and if it is KC v Buf or Cin for the championship game, the game should be at Cinci or Buf due to head to head wins over KC. If it ends up Buf v Cincy, play at The Horseshoe in Columbus or some other neutral site.
    .

  22. 100% YESSSS! I tried selling this idea to co-workers yesterday and got laughed out of the lunch room. It’s the only fair option if NFL cancels the game

  23. Either finish the game or name the Bengals the winner.
They were ahead when the game was stopped, If the game is truly over then they should be the winner.

  24. First, it delivers the AFC North title to the Bengals, even if they lose to the Ravens on Sunday,….

    ——-

So what? Teams lose both games to division rivals all the time and still win the division. Bengals beat the Chiefs head to head, the argument could be made that they should be the one seed.

  25. This Bills Chiefs media narrative needs to stop already. Especially when neither of them are even better than the Bengals.

  26. Absolutely not! If the Chiefs get the one seed then it plays out like it always does in the playoffs. One seed gets home field advantage.

  27. Or, next weekend Bills finish game v Bengals, and Ravens play Patriots. Cancel Bills V Patriots since this game does not affect division standings and Patriots will have had 17 games. Bengals and Ravens are both in the playoffs and Cinci has a one game lead, only the division championship is in question. So, cancel Bengals v Ravens if they both win or both lose, or Bengals win or Ravens lose. If the top 2 conference seeds end up within a half game in the standings, #1 seed goes to the head to head winner.

If Bengals lose and Ravens win, play Bengals v Ravens in 1st round of playoffs, and seed/pair the other teams w/o a playoff bye. Home field in any championship game involving any 2 of KC, Buf and Cinci goes to the head to head winner.

  28. I’m a Bills fan but declaring the game a loss after 8 minutes of play is probably the worse decision. Given the circumstances taking an L is not really of consequence but still doesn’t seem like a realistic decision. 8 minutes in???? That’s tough.

I dint know why, since no playoff positions and Gabe’s are slated next week, you don’t simply post week 18 as is, then put the Bills at Cinci say, Saturday prime time 4 or 7. Delay all playoff games til the next week, sure sone teams will have 3 weeks off but we get a full 17 game season for everyone, the teams most effected are the teams who’s game was delayed and we simply move the playoffs back one week and start super bowl as scheduled with 1 week between. Fair to all involved resulting in a full schedule played, no weird winning pct or lack of opportunity to earn your deserved playoff spot and simply week 19 is only bills/bengals week 20is wild card etc. longer time off for the 1 seeds which I dont think they’d complain teams don’t even know where or who they are playing next week anyways for the most part

  29. Bills are a come-from-behind 2nd half team. They finally won the coin toss, deferred to the 2nd half, and never got a chance to take advantage of it. Give both teams W’s and let week 18 matter. Or finish the game next week Thursday. it’ll decide the AFC.

  30. I think the NFL is very unlikely to tweak anything about the playoffs. They’re going to get criticized no matter what they choose to do, so the path of least resistance is to just do nothing.

  31. That’s why a tie or no-contest is NOT the fairest way to proceed.

If the game is not played (best solution is to find a way to finish the game) then it should be decided by a coin flip.

I know people will freak out about deciding the game by a coin flip, but imposing a tie is really the same thing as flipping a coin and saying ‘heads it’s a tie, tails it’s a tie’. It’s no less arbitrary and is significantly less realistic (since a tie was the least likely way the game would have ended)

A coin flip at least honors all the possibilities which existed prior to Monday night (Bengals could still be the top seed, Ravens could still win the AFC North etc.)

  32. Mr. Hamlin’s health and recovery is the most important thing in all of this, but I will say the Chiefs are kind of getting screwed over in all of this.

  33. Why not just do a monday night game on the 9th, with the same score and resume at the same yardline, same down and distance?

This doesn’t seem that difficult to me.

  34. We’re definitely gonna see KC vs Buffalo/KC vs Cincy and/or Buffalo vs Cincy again in the playoffs.

  35. 4, 2023 at 11:35 am
Yeah, lets punish the Chiefs…. for some reason.—–

The Chiefs lost to both the Bills and the Bengals this season, and the eye test shows they are not the better team.

  36. Bengals should host the Bills next weekend while all other teams (that are headed to the playoffs) get a bye. Cleanest and most fair way to proceed IMHO.

  37. There will not be a “perfect” solution if the Bills/Bengals game is cancelled – the only way to avoid this with ALL fairness is to restart the game at 5:58 in the 1st Quarter with the score 7-3 OR give both teams a tye which changes nothing in the current playoff seeding with the seasons final games deciding everything. That however is not fair for Cincy as they were ahead of my Bills 7-3!

  38. Here how it should go.

If the chiefs win and bills lose – any game between chiefs and bills as is – chiefs would have clinched home field.

If both win or both lose- neutral site.

If the ravens beat the Bengals- make the ravens Bengals (assuming ravens are 6 seed) neutral site.

If the bills lose – bills Bengals neutral site.

If the chiefs lose and Bengals win any Bengals chiefs game should be at a neutral site.

  39. It’s true that all solutions are bad solutions. You just have to pick one that’s among the least bad. I would prefer the solution where the Bengals/Bills game isn’t played and there is no change to the playoffs schedule. BUT for the AFC, the #1 seed wouldn’t get a bye. Instead, on the AFC side, the top *eight* teams (by win percentage) would play on the first weekend of the playoffs. I think eliminating the #1 seed’s advantage of a bye is a better solution than eliminating that seed’s advantage of a home game in the AFC championship. Given that there are three teams that could have ended up at #1 if all games had been played, then have all of them play in the first week of the playoffs.

  40. The Bengals won the coin toss and elected to take the ball first on offense. I don’t believe that anyone can count the Bills out in that game, Josh has had some fantastic finishes, this game needs to resume to fairly decide who deserves the #1 seed.

    —————————————————————————————

How does this determine the AFC North if Cincy loses to the Bills?
It is no cleaner, or fairer, for the Ravens and Bengals not to play that game than it would be not to finish the Bills/Bengals game.
Giving the Ravens a bye simply doesn’t work.

  42. Bengals should host the Bills next weekend while all other teams (that are headed to the playoffs) get a bye

    ——-

Half the reason you want to get the 1 seed is so you get a bye….the other is home field.

What you’re suggesting is that everyone gets a bye who didn’t earn it.

Also, the loser of that game is at a severe disadvantage bc they’d play without the benefit of a bye of any sort

  43. I’ve called for the bills to forfeit, but that has not been popular in the comments. Quite frankly, I don’t care who gets the #1 seed as long as it’s not the chiefs. The chiefs lost to both the bengals and the bills and had the 3rd easiest schedule (strength of schedule based on all 17 opponents win percentage this year).

  44. Here’s an idea that gives both teams something positive: Play week 18 as normal. If Buffalo beats New England and the Chiefs beat the Raiders then have a coin flip to determine who gets the bye. The loser of the coin flip loses the bye but gets home field if the teams play each other.

So whichever team loses the coin flip will lose the bye but get to play at home in the playoffs should they meet each other.

  45. Bills, Bengals, Chiefs record vs current AFC playoff teams
    Bills 3-0
    Bengals 2-1
    Chiefs 3-2

  46. Many folks have rightly pointed out that this solution ignores the potential harm to the Bengals. But it also ignores the effect on the Ravens, who could potentially win the AFC North if the Bengals lost to the Bills.

FYI, as of a few minutes ago, the NFL website is showing the Ravens-Bengals game as unscheduled and, on the Playoff Picture page, showing that the Bengals and the Ravens have byes in Week 18. That is an interesting development.

    —————————————————-

The visitor calls the coin toss. That means Buffalo won and chose to defer,
    ***OR***
Buffalo lost the toss and Cinci chose to receive. I only saw the Bills kick off to start the game.

Either way, Buffalo got screwed out of a 2nd half return as well as a chance for a 2 for 1 (double dipping–scoring at the end of the 1st half and the beginning of the 2nd half.)

That’s something the Bills look forward to doing, they’ve done it many times; it also catches the hometown crowd at bay while they are in the stadium corridors and not in their seats.

  48. It’s not really fair that the Chiefs can lose to both the Bills and Bengals and still get home field advantage anyway. For goodness sake, they lost to the Colts! They should be disqualified based on that alone.

  49. The “fair” thing would have been to play out the game on Monday night as scheduled, but that wasn’t the “right” thing to do. Whatever is decided has an impact on multiple teams, it impacts the seeding of at least 4 of the 7 teams in the playoffs. At this point in time, you’re not going to make every team happy, so the NFL needs to make their decision and teams and fans need to shut their pie hole and accept it. Don’t wait until next week to decide if the game will be played or not, teams will want to make decisions on playing time this week based on the decision. I’m not a fan of any AFC North teams, but the Ravens & Bengals drew the short straws here. Ravens now have no chance at winning the division and hosting a home game and Bengals lose the opportunity to take the 2 seed and possibly even the 1 seed. If you want a neutral site game, maybe it should be in Baltimore since they are the ones who lost an opportunity of hosting a home playoff game.

  50. Cincinnati is the one getting the shaft.
    I’ll be that guy.
The decision to postpone was wrong. Players have died on field in similar circumstances in the game continued. It was not the first time in my lifetime that I have seen CPR on field. A 16 yr old Football player from New Jersey had an identical situation occur. Involved in a big hit. Stood up momentarily before collapsing. Rushed off field in ambulance, died later from injuries. Those high school players finished the game.
The refs informed teams play would resume in 5 mins. But Buffalo coach said, “No.” Which is fine, but that’s a forfeit. Cincy was not going to lose that game. Game score stands. W for Cincy, L for Bills.

  51. I’m a Chiefs fan and can tell you, even at Arrowhead, Buffalo and Cincy know how to win there. They won’t be fazed at all. They’re the three best teams and all on par with eachother.

  52. If KC wins week 18, Bengals are eliminated from #1 seed. Having them play the Bills in week 19 vs a team that rested a week in playoffs is not fair to them. Likewise, if Bills were to lose to Bengals they also would be playing a team that had a week off. If the Bills defeat the Bengals, they will not have any benefit of the #1 seed getting a week off since everyone everybody but the Bills and Bengals had off. If think overall winning percentage should be used (Bills/Bengals not played) but only after multiplying by the strength of schedule (like the draft order). An alternative would be to take the Bills, Bengals and Chiefs record vs the AFC playoff teams to determine the seedings. That way at least the Bills and Bengals get credit for both beating the Chiefs.

  54. Really, didn’t the bills and bengals choose to forfeit that game? They should both get losses. As we move forward from that unfortunate situation, it becomes more clear that they should have finished the game. There is just no scenario that makes sense. It will be super unfair if this jeopardizes the Steelers chance for a playoff spot in any way. Give both teams a loss and let’s move on.

Record actually does mean something. So if the bengals lose out and the chiefs win out the bengals should advance as higher seed because they beat the chiefs earlier in the year. Silly take on this..

  56. A neutral site for a playoff game is a terrible idea. The goal is to sell as many highly priced tickets as possible, good luck doing that in Detroit or Florida or wherever else is vacant

  57. This game MUST be played out! And no…not at a neutral site either! This game was a scheduled home game for the Bengals and thats where it needs to take place too! Why ANYONE would be so dumb as to say it should be a “no contest” or decided by a coin toss needs their heads examined! Push the playoffs back and play this game after week 18 is over! I dont see any other “fair” way of doing it! Play the game!

  58. Just when I thought you couldn’t get any dumber…. You go and completely show you can…

  59. As sad as this whole situation is for Damar, his family, friends, and teammates, Damar’s situation will play out for him regardless. The sad reality is it could have happened in an auto accident on the way to catch the team plane, and the game would have been played without him. Horrible things happen to good people for no reason every single second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day. It sucks.

I realize it will be hard on both the Bills and Bengals to even play this weekend, but they are going to play their slated games this weekend whether the feel like playing or not. So, the only way it ends up being fair for all the playoff contenders and seedings is if the suspended game is resumed on weekend 19, push the playoffs back one week, and eliminate the week-off following the conference championship, which allows for all games to be played with the seeding that was earned and the Superbowl to played as scheduled.

  60. Ok I’ll say it too- awarding a result after 8 minutes is an asinine idea. Hard stop. I also don’t like the idea of no contest but it at least has merit on a game not completed. And whoever said expand the afc to 8 teams might be the worst idea as games and strategies and all that were based on 7 team field. I honestly don’t see why this is so hard:

As of now all teams in the playoffs or hunt in theory could be playing next week And the week after assuming a W. Play week 18 out as is. Week 19 as I stated is a week that as of now has all wildcard games but no destinations or pairings. Move the Bills bengals game to the former WC weekend in prime time probably Saturday to give both teams an extra day rest. Playing out the full schedule eliminates any schedule implications even though the bills game will be played after the other results are known. So be it. Everyone in theory has the same chance they do now. As I stated above every team, assuming a bye or a W in the wildcard COULD. he playing the Week of the 21st . Simply make that the first round all venues stadiums etc are in the exact same position of possibly being needed. What do you lose? The stupid 2 week superbowl hype – sorry it’s one week now

    …………….

Yes the chiefs have played 5 games against AFC playoff teams. .Bills and Bengals only 3
    …………………………………………………………………………….

The Bills played the Dolphins, Jets, and Pats, one of them will make the playoffs, and if the Bills win Sunday, and the Fins & Jets don’t make the playoffs, then the Bills will be at least 4-0, maybe 5-0, against AFC playoff teams, better than KC…

  62. If the cancel the Bills/Bengals game (which, unfortunately, makes the most sense) then I feel like if you want the most “fair” outcome is to let an 8th seed from the AFC into the playoffs and immediately schedule a neutral-site game for the AFC Championship, regardless which teams make it.

That way no team gets a first round bye and no team has home field advantage throughout.

It is definitely not a perfect solution. The Ravens lose out on their slim chance to win the north and have a home game first round. The Bengals would lose the chance for a home game in the divisional round if the 1/2 seeds also advance. An 8th seeded team which shouldn’t have even made the playoffs could go on a run. But that would also be another game for the fans. And this way, nobody benefits from a week off to get rested or host the AFC Championship which are the biggest advantages for the 1st seed.

  63. Play the AFC title game in Glendale AZ… Phoenix is full of Chiefs and Bills fans.

Don’t play the game in any Midwest city with a dome. Nobody wants to be there in winter.

  64. Call the game as a Final. 7-3 Bengals. There is no perfect solution. It was a tragic event that no one wants to relive. The NFL cancelled games after 9/11 & during COVID, they can do it again. It’s to late in the season to do anything else.

  65. Assuming KC wins vs LV who is playing a backup QB, Cincy can’t get a bye (#1 seed). So if you were Cincy, what is more important? Possibly being a number 2 seed or not going into the playoffs against a team that had a week off and for all practical purposes 2 weeks to develop a game plan against them. I believe Cincy would rather not give their playoff opponent this big of an advantage vs resuming a game vs the Bills. In addition both teams run the risk of players being hurt and unavailable for the first playoff game while their opponents players had an extra week to heal. The Bills could still be #1 seed but only if the Cincy game is played. However, is playing the Cincy game with the risk of injury and one week off (if they were to win) really significantly better than the possibility of having to play an opponent that had an extra week to rest, heal and game plan? I think not. Buffalo’s and Cincy’s best chance to advance to AFC semis is to not resume the game.

  66. The NFL is rooting openly for Chiefs to win and Bengals and Bills to lose so KC gets #1 seed, Buffalo #2 and Cincinnati is down to #5.

Call the game as a Final. 7-3 Bengals. There is no perfect solution. It was a tragic event that no one wants to relive. The NFL cancelled games after 9/11 & during COVID, they can do it again. It’s to late in the season to do anything else.

No sports league declares a game which is 1/10th complete to be official. Your idea is a very bad.

Agree!! Any Bengal fan espousing they should win because they were ahead after 9 minutes has a pretty short term memory. A couple of weeks ago they were down 17 – 0 at half time to the below 500 Bucs. They looked like they shouldn’t have been on the same field. But alas, teams make adjustments and turn games around, as did Cincy. Two completely different halves and teams from 1 half to the other. Football is a 60 minute game!!

The NFL is rooting openly for Chiefs to win and Bengals and Bills to lose so KC gets #1 seed, Buffalo #2 and Cincinnati is down to #5.

Can’t happen. Cincy 2 games up in the loss column. Bengals have to lose to Bills and lose to Ravens. Ravens have no chance to win if Lamar doesn’t play.

    ========

The Chiefs only lost to the Colts because of a replacement kicker choking the game away. KC only lost to the two top teams in the AFC. The Bills and the Bengals lost to a slew of actual losers.

Tell me again how KC is either a worse team or a luckier team than the Bengals or Bills.

AFCCG is going through Arrowhead for the fifth year in a row. Deal with it.

  72. If every option is a bad option, you shouldn’t choose the option that only impacts two of the three teams. Just suck it up and make the decision to play all the games. Either by squeezing them in the current allotted timeline or shuffle things as you move forward.

Does playing games on short rest suck for the players. Absolutely, but so does making a choice that would penalize a team for because that is the option that sucks a little less for 2 of the teams.

  73. I guess if we are deciding playoff seedings by winning percentages now, the Buccaneers go from a 4 seed to a 7 seed….or do they even make the playoffs? LOL The best solution I have seen is a regular schedule this weekend. NFC wildcard games and Bills-Bengals played next weekend, and then AFC wildcard games the following weekend. This will give each playoff team, other then the Bengals and Bills one week’s rest, which all teams could probably use now anyway. and the only casualty would be a loss of the week off between the Conference championship games and the Super Bowl….and oh yeah, a Pro Bowl flag football game!

  74. They may wait until the end of week 18 to see if the game is necessary. If the Chiefs and Bengals lose( highly unlikely ) and the Bills win the game the top 3 seeds cannot change. Not fair to the Ravens but an option anyway instead of impacting 14 teams

  75. Think bigdaddy had it right, first. Following week 18, the Bills and Bengals play the suspended game. Then playoffs proceed normally, one week late. The SB is played on it’s scheduled day, one week after the conference championship games. This way the Bengals get the benefit of their lead in the suspended game – only fair – and the only losers are the event planners, hoteliers, and airlines.
