Tight end Irv Smith Jr. is set to return to the active roster in Minnesota.

Smith has been out since Week Eight with an ankle injury, but has been back at practice the last couple of weeks. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the team will activate Smith in time for Sunday’s game against the Bears.

The Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson after Smith’s injury and Johnny Mundt has also played a role on offense, so it remains to be seen how Smith will fit into the mix.

Smith is set for free agency after the season. He missed all of last season and has 88 catches for 844 yards and nine touchdowns since entering the league as a 2019 second-round pick.

The Vikings announced that they waived tight end Nick Muse on Friday, so there’s a roster spot open for Smith.

  1. They’ll probably need to run more 2 TE sets with O’Neill on IR, but idk who gets benched on those downs between Osborn and Thielen!

  2. Too bad he can’t play OL to replace 1 of the players injured from playing on that slippery cow pasture

  3. I bet they move to sign TJ long term and let Irv walk. Doubt we’ll see much more of Smith in purple unless he goes to the Ravens.

  4. I am all in favor of getting rid of Irv “glass” Smith. All the hype about his potential, and even when healthy I did not see it.

I’ll take HOCK over him all day every day.

Thielen has 14 catches on 27 targets for 149 yards in his last 5 games. He’s done.

  6. Back from his ankle injury just in time to be sacrificed to the Soldier Field turf.

  7. And the Minnesota Vikings continue their slide and stumble into the 2022 postseason.
Hopefully, somebody clues Irv in on what type of cleats to where on Soldier Field’s natural grass.
Doubtful, with this dysfunctional coaching staff/front office.
    Cue the circus music. 😂

I see what you did there. You had a Freudian slip, and ended with your feelings of the green and yellows. 🤣

  9. Packer fans are cute. A little 4 game streak and listen to their puffed up egos. Can’t wait for the big battle in Lambeau…for 2nd place!

  10. Us Viking fans are excited about a division title (an uncommon occurrence). A chance to puff out our chests. Unfortunately, we know we never achieve more than that.

  11. Division aside, Vikings are 12-4, GB is 8-8. You’ve won a few games lately! Good for you! I’ll be setting back on Sunday night, relaxing, knowing my team is in and with a home game coming up. Maybe GB can do it…maybe not. Good luck.

  12. I suppose with the lose of O’Neil and the fact that he is already under contract they might as well use him in the last game and playoff game(s), but he is done in Minnesota.

  13. Yes, we really are enjoying our regular season for a change. It’s been a while. It will be the usual postseason futility again, though. Back to Green Bay dominance next season, I suppose.

I bet Hockensen will move along from Minnesota. He didn’t seem thrilled to land there in the first place, and the coming playoff blowout is unlikely to sway him.

    I bet

For what that’s worth…you were on of they guys who gaurenteed a Packer division title last summer

  17. Packer fans with fake Vikings names aside, you’d think you guys would wait until actually making the playoffs before chirping. This will make losing to the Lions tomorrow way more embarrassing.

  18. Chirping is what us Viking fans are all about. Certainly not championship success.

    _________

    Why exactly?
Most of us know that the Packers are having a terrible year.
An influx of rookies in our wide receiver’s room, Aaron Rodgers dealing with his broken thumb, losing Rashan Gary and Stokes has really hampered our defense, and besides all that, the Packers just weren’t playing good football anyway.
It’s just been one of those seasons.

The fact they’re playing for anything significant tomorrow, with possible bonus football after, is a blessing.
But we know that this team can’t compete with the really good teams like the 49ers, Eagles, Chiefs or Bills, and that’s ok.
If the Lions win tomorrow it’d be anything but embarrassing.
And kudos to them if the do.

No, what’s embarrassing is a team that’s basically won with smoke and mirrors and a healthy dose of luck and their dopey fans have been beating their chests all season long.
It’s going to be extra sweet to see that stupid look on their collective faces when the inevitable demise finally happens.
    Can’t wait. 🤣

guaranteed? No. Stated and thought they would. True. Viking fans running all over trying to remind us of the NFL standings….snooze.

Your team has and will always fondly remember a record-setting season where you won the most ever one score games. That’s good, and congratulations. But there is no way Minnesota gets past the second round of the playoffs without losing in convincing fashion.
THAT i will guarantee. Happy banner.
