49ers pound Cardinals, earn No. 2 seed in NFC

The 49ers are the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs after a dominant win today over the Cardinals.

Today’s 38-13 win improves San Francisco to 13-4 on the season, meaning they’ll be at home for a wild card game against the No. 7 seed next weekend. The only time the 49ers would go on the road before the Super Bowl would be if they met Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game.

Brock Purdy continued to play the kind of efficient football that no one could possibly have expected from a rookie third-string quarterback who was the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft. And running backs Elijah Mitchell and Christian McCaffrey both played well.

The Cardinals started the game with a great trick play 77-yard touchdown pass from David Blough to A.J. Green, but other than that they couldn’t do much of anything. J.J. Watt, playing the last game of his Hall of Fame career, had two sacks, and that was about the only good thing to say about the Cardinals, who finish the season 4-13.

But the 49ers look like one of the best teams in football. They’re Super Bowl contenders.

  1. Niners ten straight wins for the first time ever- peaking at the right time. Barring a cataclysmic injury; they are going to win the Super Bowl.

  2. Please fire Kliff he sucks really bad. He was a loser in college too. Who said let’s hire this guy? Az is going to be terrible for years to come. Sad for the fans Kyler has lots of time in the offseason for homework though.

  3. From going 3-4 to 13-4 and the 2nd Seed on our QB3, I can only appreciate the depth and resiliency of this team.

Home field in the next round. Feels great baby!

    GO NINERS!!!!!

  4. NFC Championship should be SF at Philadelphia. We’ll see. The rest of the NFC is weak. 7 teams in the teams in the playoffs in each Conference is beyond absurd. TWO DIVISIONS instead of four. Each division winner gets the bye. Go back to 6 teams in each Conference making it to the playoffs. No more 8-9 teams in the the playoffs or 7-9. Not a believer in Minnesota or Dallas.

    Bye Kliff, enjoy the SEC

SEC? No chance. Maybe the Ohio Valley conference

  6. Here is how it goes down:

NYG gets the job done in Minnesota this time
Brady refuses to let Dallas end his career
SF dominates whoever on Monday Night Football wild card

NYG goes back to Philly at full strength and knocks out the top seed
Brady’s career comes full circle and ends in Santa Clara

49ers rout their ancient playoff rival NYG in the NFCCG

Niners-Bengals III in the Super Bowl. Niners get it done.

  7. No QB on this team. Let’s see if SF can win a SB with no Qb … wait wait we’ve seen this movie before with Jimmy G.

They can get there by they can’t win it and honestly if they play Philly in championship game i think they can win only because hurts its young And banged up

Only thing i really worry about is Rodgers and GB
.i shouldn’t i really shouldn’t but that man is on fire recently and he’s the best qb in the nfc

  8. Santa Clara will be pulling for GB because they know the Hawks will stroll into town, slap them around and reclaim the Santa Clara stadium as home away from home. FEAR THE HAWKS!!!

Micky Spillane was a revered American novelist. Your take is reminiscent of Geraldo Rivera opening Al Capone’s safe.

But wait! I thought Wereitclara was a “LaRaMs” fan?!

  12. Think about this, why would anyone hire Kingsbury as a head coach at any level? I don’t think people realize he has NEVER proven he can be a head coach. At least people who have failed like Rhule, Meyer, Saban they have proven that given the right circumstances they can be a successful head coach in college. When has Kliff proven this??

  13. First and foremost…congratulations to the San Francisco 49ers! I would also like to say how awesome it was for AJ Green to have an outstanding game. He has openly said he is contemplating retirement. He has had an amazing career. If this was in fact his final game, it was great to see him go out with a great game.

  14. Remember when Kliff Kingsbury was named Offensive Coordinator at USC, and Michael Birdwell said “hey let’s hire the OC at USC, who had a losing record at Texas Techm and never coached in the NFL , and make him the Head Coach of the Arizona Cardinals, LOL .. good times, good times

  15. Forget the Eagles…the 49ers are the most dangerous team in the NFC. Just my opinion, but Purdy plays like a veteran, he has the pieces on offense, and that defense is pretty stout. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them in the SB.
