For most of the year, the Texans looked like a lock for the No. 1 overall choice in the 2023 NFL draft. Then, they messed that up by beating the Colts on Sunday.

So, it’s the Bears who will have the top choice come April 27.

The top 18 picks are locked in after the regular season, and per the NFL, this is the order:

1. Chicago Bears (3-14)

2. Houston Texans (3-13-1)

3. Arizona Cardinals (4-13)

4. Indianapolis Colts (4-12-1)

5. Seattle Seahawks, via the Denver Broncos (5-12)

6. Detroit Lions, via the Los Angeles Rams (5-12)

7. Las Vegas Raiders (6-11)

8. Atlanta Falcons (7-10)

9. Carolina Panthers (7-10)

10. Philadelphia Eagles, via the New Orleans Saints (7-10)

11. Tennessee Titans (7-10)

12. Houston Texas, via the Cleveland Browns (7-10)

13. New York Jets (7-10)

14. New England Patriots (8-9)

15. Green Bay Packers (8-9)

16. Washington Commanders (8-8-1)

17. Pittsburgh Steelers (9-8)

18. Detroit Lions (9-8)

Notes: The rest of the draft order will be determined by the results of the postseason. The Dolphins forfeited their 2023 first-round pick and 2024 third-round pick after violating league policies pertaining to integrity of the game.

  1. Well, the Dolphins don’t have a first-round pick, do we? Thanks, Mr. Ross.

  2. Wow, Detroit. Next year will be like adding Jameson Williams and then two 1sts? Scary.

  3. Who here in September had Seahawks picking number 5 with Denver’s pick and not their own, and,Geno setting the Seahawks season passing yards record?

  4. Remember when Denver fans were laughing about giving up a pick in the 20’s in the next draft for a “franchise” QB? That was funny.

  5. The Bears had the worst roster in the NFL this season… some of it by design. They need 7 or 8 new starters on each side of the ball and better depth at virtually every position. GM The #1 pick will help but only if he can leverage it into more picks and hit on every one. Wasting their 2nd-round pick (essentially a low 1st) on Chase Claypool didn’t help.

  6. I see Grier making a package deal for Byron Jones & other overrated players TBD to get back a 1st round pick Ross’s meddling cost Miami – it’s gotta happen because too many players underperforming & too many holes to fill on that team!

  7. Remember when packer trolls said that they could win the super bowl and now are in complete rebuilding mode! 🤣

  8. Houston needs to ask if it wants Bryce Young more than the rival Colts do. The Bears are selling that pick.

  9. The Dolphins forfeited their 2023 first-round pick and 2024 third-round pick after violating league policies pertaining to integrity of the game.

Ha ha, “integrity”. Integrity = steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code, incorruptibility. Please tell me how this applies to the current National Football League. Money rules the NFL, not integrity.

  10. Lovie knew he was getting fired so he screwed the Texans on the way out by winning that game. Tbh they prolly cud have won earlier in the season if the made some different decisions but not having the #1 pick is a big blow for the Texans because someone is trading up to 1 because there are a lot of teams that need a qb right now and the Texans wud have to give up a lot just to move up one spot. Tbh I havent seen enough of the qb class other than Bryce Young and Im not really high on this class and I’m not that high on Young either. I think Young may be too small, be close to his ceiling already, and has no elite traits(kinda like Kenny Pickett but smaller) and if u draft him u are gonna be stuck with the 15th best qb in the league like the Steelers are. I think because of the special qbs at the top of the league that can do a lot that isnt good enough anymore.

  11. Bears should go ahead and pick Young. They don’t have a franchise QB on the roster.

  12. People commenting like the Broncos don’t have a first round pick. They must be mistakenly thinking of the Browns, Rams, Dolphins, Niners, or Saints.

  13. Houston needs to ask if it wants Bryce Young more than the rival Colts do. The Bears are selling that pick. Hopefully they’re selling that pick, it all depends on whether somebody wants Young badly enough. I hope the Bears, whatever their plan is for Fields, publicly say we don’t know if we have our QB or not. Don’t come out and say we won’t be drafting a QB because we have Fields, make everyone – including Fields – wonder if you’re interested in Young or not. And they’d better have somebody they’re comfortable taking there just in case nobody makes a decent offer, it could go that way. Also don’t trade it until the day before or of the draft, I just hope they don’t tip their hand. I suspect they will keep Fields and trade that first pick away if possible but they make me nervous, they gave away too much to get Claypool. I hope he works out but that was an expensive trade, especially now.

  14. I am sure that whoever the Falcons draft will get hurt in week 2 of the pre-season, as usual.

  15. The Bears are in prime position to draft a potential franchise QB. I suggest they take one.

  16. with the 3rd pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals select … 5 offensive linemen, 2 defensive tackles, 2 edge rushers, an outside linebacker, 2 corners, a kicker, a punter, a running back, a 6-3 QB, a TE, and to maintain tradition, a 5-foot-6 guy that runs really fast

  17. Don’t the bears have two first? Roqan Smith trade must have given them a first or a two and four. They have 11 picks now and a ton.of money.

  18. Denver has 1st rounder from SF still. The first round is heavy defensive. Only a few elite WR, TE, OT and RB.

  19. Unless the Bears’s GM hasn’t any confidence in Justin Fields, they ought to parlay the 1st overall pick into as many others as they can. They have some giant holes to fill on their roster (5 OL, 4 DL, 3 LB, 2 WR, 2 CB). Unless their GM is a blessed genius, he’s going to need as many picks as possible to patch the holes he is at least partially responsible for creating. With the total deficiency of talent on their roster, their rebuild is going to take at least 2 years, provided things go perfectly.

  20. Having been a Bear fan since I was a pup, I know for a fact they still pay the minimum wage to their players. After Ditka left they had how many QB’s thru their revolving door? How many coaches? No, it’ll be the same old stuff. They’ve already said that they have their franchise QB.

  21. I wonder what the bears can get for Fields because he just can’t throw the ball. His first instinct is to run. Draft a QB and turn him into another positional player.

Maybe in Madden. In reality, the Bears only got a 5th for Roquan

  24. We all know The Bears, if they keep that #1 pick they will totally screw it up. There is zero chance they get a franchise QB out of this. The list of starting QB’s in Chicago is long.

Better they parlay into many picks and build other positions to see if their QB can play.

  25. Last year the Bears for some reason spent all of their draft capital on the defense leaving the offense with nothing but scraps where you end up starting lineman from the street and trading 2023 picks for WRs in the middle of the season.

Horrible waste of resource while your franchise QB is getting sacked at a record rate. You are now in year 3 of Fields and 2 different head coaches have hung him out to dry. The 2nd one halfway through the year finally remembered that Fields can scramble at least.

I thought that Fields had the potential to do what Hurts is doing now for the Eagles but that kid has had no support from the coaches or on the field due to no resources being put on offense.

  26. I could see Irsay, white knuckling the reins this offseason, trading up to #1 and whiffing on his next Peyton Manning while giving the Bears way too much.

  27. It’s rare that everything work out so perfectly that a team who goes all in on one season actually comes out with a SB. It did work for the Rams, but we are already seeing how truly all-in that was.

LA narrowly won 3 times in last year’s postseason. All could have easily gone another way.

LA is staring down the barrel of 1 good season followed by several miserable ones due to being unable to build a team. History will say 1 superbowl is worth that but it’s lucky- a couple of 50/50 plays that dont go their way, and it would be deemed a massive mistake.

  28. Would love to see the Patriots take Michael Mayer at #14. Afterall, his nickname is Baby Gronk!!

This is one of the factors that makes Belichick the unquestionable GOAT coach. Others have accomplished a champion team, even accomplished it a couple times, but no one has ever been able to sustain a team at that level for that long except Belichick.

Ever ask why Belichick could build the team in a way no other coaches could?

or are you claiming that Chinese were the reason United States could send men to the Moon because they had dreamed of flying to the Moon for thousands of years?

Pats defense during Brady’s era was worse than Packers defense with Rodgers on total yards allowed.

    Go figure.

It’s definitely questionable now after his hiring decisions on offense this past season.

And yet they couldn’t translate what they had into winning games like Belichick could. Sounds like they needed a better coach.

LOL, who else would be able to do what Brady did (like scoring 24 or more in back to back playoff games) with the squad given by BeliCHEAP?

  38. Why do teams like Saints, Packers, Bills and Chiefs invest so much resource to put so much talents around their QB? because their QB need lot of talents to be good in 2 playoff games at least, because their QB need lot of talents to make plays when games on the line.

Belichick didn’t have to, why? because he had Tom Brady. Most importantly, OTHER COACHES DIDN’T HAVE TO EITHER IF THEY HAD TOM BRADY. With Tom Brady, they could have spent lot more on defense, like Belichick did, and would have done better than Belichick’s defense in playoff.

2 great games out of 41 playoff games, what is great about it? any average DC would be able to do it.
