The Browns fired defensive coordinator Joe Woods on Monday morning and it hasn’t taken long for a list of candidates to come together.

Albert Breer of SI.com reports that former Lions head coach and Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is expected to interview for the position. Schwartz was a senior defensive assistant with the Titans the last two seasons and he also worked as the team’s defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2008.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports the Browns have also put in an interview request for Seahawks associate head coach Sean Desai. Desai was the Bears defensive coordinator in 2021 and originally joined the Bears staff in 2013.

Steelers linebackers coach Brian Flores and Patriots linebacker coach Jerod Mayo are also reportedly on the list of candidates for the opening in Cleveland.

  1. The guy that gets the job will be undermining Stefanski all next year and will become the Browns HC in 2024.

  2. Schwartz – why is he even bothering to apply? It isn’t like he was much of a coach.

  3. Much like when Freddie Kitchens was head coach I’m sure there wasn’t a DC in the league that wasn’t pounding their head into a wall wishing they had the Browns roster and watching Woods just completely screw it up every week. Finding a replacement won’t be that hard just like it wasn’t that hard to find one to take the head coaching job.

  4. Do not answer the call. The Browns are the worst run franchise in all of sports. Who else would have sold there soul for a average- sexual deviant QB?

  5. They’ll be scraping the bottom of the barrel to find a good DC candidate to hire!

  6. a proven commodity like schwartz or flores would instantly bring credibility and improvement to the defense.

The real problem in Cleveland is Paul Podesta. Until they fire him, nothing changes.
