The Colts have another name on their list of candidates for their head coaching search.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Colts have requested permission to interview Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.

The team has done the same with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

All four are available for the Colts to interview this week.

Steichen is expected to be a popular interview candidate.

He has directed an offense that ranked third in points (28.1) and second in yards per game (389.1) in his second season as the team’s coordinator. Steichen was the Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2020.

  1. Why are they interviewing head coaches? Isn’t it Dwight Freeney’s turn to coach this year?

  2. This is hilarious. I’m an Eagles fan but they are totally an anomaly, and their coaching staff is a bit of a joke, starting with Nicky TShirt, then Gannon and Steichen. None of them have extensive team mgmt skill. So y’all go ahead and talk to these jokers.

  3. I’m sure besides “unfinished business” Jim Harbaugh would love to play against Trent Baalke’s team 2x a year.

But the options are working for Irsay or McNair. That’s going to scare away all the best candidates.

  4. Colts are in a rough place just because they don’t have a QB and aren’t picking high enough to land a young QB given that the Bears n Cards in all likelihood trade out n the QBs likely going 1,2,3 before IND picks. Bears could even take a QB at #1 given how bad Fields is in the passing game showing very limited development still unable to read a defense. Colts could land Derek Carr or Jimmy G though, odds of someone like Carr signing there are probably fairly high.

  5. They had the right coach. Just had the wrong GM who could not filed a proper offense with players and a QB.
