Jim Harbaugh: My heart is at the University of Michigan

Jim Harbaugh’s flirtation with the NFL in 2022 ended with him returning to the University of Michigan and the same thing has happened in 2023.

Harbaugh interviewed with the Broncos last week, but University of Michigan president Santa Ono said in a tweet on Monday afternoon that he had just spoken to Harbaugh and that Harbaugh said he will be remaining with the Wolverines.

“I just got off the phone with Coach Harbaugh and Jim shared with me the great news that he is going to remain as the Head Coach of the Michigan Wolverines,” Ono said. “That is fantastic news that I have communicated to our Athletic Director Warde Manuel.”

Harbaugh released a statement of his own a short time later.

“I love the relationships that I have at Michigan — coaches, staff, families, administration, President Santa Ono and especially the player and their families,” Harbaugh said. “My heart is at the University of Michigan. I once heard a wise man say, “Don’t try to out-happy happy.” Go Blue!”

Ono said late last week that the school had “positive and constructive conversations” with Harbaugh about remaining in Ann Arbor. Those conversations presumably included discussion of adjustments to Harbaugh’s contract and it will be interesting to see if there is now a buyout in place that makes it less likely that Harbaugh will explore a move back to the NFL in 2024.

  1. Jim Harbaugh is a snake and will say whatever is necessary to achieve his goals. The only thing Jim cares about is Jim Harbaugh

  2. Going to be McVay and quitting, Harbaugh and quitting, Brady and quitting, Rogers and quitting for the foreseeable future.

  3. Broncos never offered or talked contract details with him. He probably wanted to save himself some embarrassment but was also trying to drive the price up on Michigan.

  4. Only because nobody in the NFL wanted you out of the gate. Be honest if nothing else.

  5. Perhaps if McDaniels does horrible in 2023 the Raiders will make a run at Harbaugh again as they did way back when he left SF. Davis was under the impression it was a done deal, but it was not to be. Davis also does not have the kind of cash other owners have and Las Vegas is probably not the kind of city the Jim Harbaugh would enjoy residing in.

  6. Jim Harbaugh has demonstrated he’s an excellent coach at the NCAA and NFL levels. He can also come across as a tool. He can probably get away with that indefinitely at the college level, but if he went back to the NFL, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was effective for 2-3 years and then wore out his welcome within 5.

  7. I am glad that my Denver team is not getting him & I hope we don’t get Payton ( too expensive & a 1st round pic) Give me Dan Quinn or Frank Reich.

  8. The way John acted last night, I wish he would follow his brother to college football.

  9. I guess Harbaugh got the call from Denver saying thanks, but no thanks, then he called Michigan’s President.

Good for you Jim. It’s Russell Wilson faults.

Well, if you mean that Future HOF QB Russell Wilson decided, after a short interview, that he would not be offering Mr. Harbaugh the Denver Broncos’ head Coaching Position, then you are correct.

  11. It seems quite simple. During the Interview Process, HOF QB Russell Wilson asked Jim, “If you had the game to coach over again, how would you have stopped my Incredible Performance in the Seahawks’ destruction of the 49ers in that Fateful NFC Championship Game?” Unfortunately for Coach Harbaugh, even after a number of years passing by, he still could not come up with an answer…

  12. One can only surmise that when push comes to shove, first ballot HOF QB Russell Wilson decided Harbaugh wasn’t a match for his talents.

He’s better than almost half of the current NFL coaches.

I completely agree but unfortunately, Future HOF QB Wilson will have his hands full training a new OC, installing his new Offensive Scheme, and keeping a continued eye on the performance of his defense….
