The Buccaneers’ disappointing 2022 season came to a disappointing end on Monday night with the club’s 31-14 loss to the Cowboys in the wild card round.

There are plenty of offseason questions surrounding the franchise, starting with what quarterback Tom Brady will do for next season. But even if Brady isn’t back, head coach Todd Bowles said he doesn’t see the upcoming offseason as a rebuilding project.

“Never rebuild. You always reload,” Bowles said in his postgame press conference. “You feel like you have a chance to win every year. You’ve just got to tweak some things from a schematic standpoint all the way around — offense, defense, and special teams. Obviously, no one ever comes back with every player on the team, so we’ll have some new faces in here. That’s just part of the game.”

The Bucs won the NFC South despite finishing 8-9. While Tampa Bay finished No. 9 in total defense and No. 13 in points allowed, the offense was a problem all year. The club was last in rushing offense, which led to ending the year at No. 15 in yards and No. 25 in points.

The Buccaneers scored at least 30 points in just two games this season, which was also the only two times the club scored more than 24 points.

  1. You are years and years away from being able to say “reload”.

It will be a mass exodus and all those old players are cooked. Absolutely cooked. Blow it all up, deal the expensive, older players under contract and get picks.

Brady has destroyed the team for years now, but intelligent people knew this all along.

  2. You cannot reload if you weren’t loaded in the first place. Also, even if you had been loaded, you can lose enough that it is not possible to reload, you must rebuild. It’s all semantics though. When you are coming off a losing record, need to find a solution at QB, as well as fill other holes, you’re not reloading. You are heading for a rebuild.

  3. The Bucs can continue to be mediocre and continue to win the NFC South. I think Brady has bigger dreams than that so he will probably be gone.

  4. Hoist your division championship banner and revel in hte mediocrity of this team with its losing record. The NFL should NEVER have allowed a team with losing records into the playoffs. Re-seed and give us only teams with winning records.

No joke: Sal Palanotonio is calling Bowles a great coach. It’s just mindnumbing seeing the delusion of people in the sport itself or covering it.

  6. That team looked awful last night. When you can make Dakota look competent, you know you are in for a rough night.

  7. A losing season to come is all but a guarantee as long as Bowles is HC!
could not win with the GOAT at QB… doesn’t get easier than that!

While you are correct that the team is about tho have those past couple years catch up ,to them they did still get a Lombardi out of it. Lots of teams mortgage their future with win niw moves. Not all of them get the prize they were after, but the Bucs did.

  9. Bowles is not head coach material and anyone who saw him coach the Jets knows this. The Brady era is all but over in Tampa, but they still got a ring out of it, so it was a success no matter how you want to slice it. Now is the time to clean house, unless the plan is to tank, in which case they should keep Bowles.

  10. Bowles, welcome to the ring of honor!
Along with Freddie Kitchens, Urban Meyer, Tom Cable, Jim Tomsula, Matt Rhule, etc, etc

  11. They looked out of sync for the entire season. He can debate rebuild vs reload all he wants but is it too much for the team to actually look prepared?

  12. The Buccaneers were so ineffective on both sides of the ball they made the Cowboys look like a powerhouse Super Bowl team. The Cowboys will be brought down to earth next game against the 49’ers. The Bucaneers offense is a mess. They have a Hall of Fame Quaterback hamstrung by zero chemistry with mediocre receivers and a non existent run game.

  13. Bowles is a good DC – meaning when he has above average talent he beats teams he should beat. This team was 8-9 and they needed four 4th qtr comebacks, aided by zebras swallowing whistles on OL holding. This team could have easily been 4-13.
Bowles Jets team got worse every year. Tampa was clearly not as good as the 2021 team. we should never overreact based on one game that is fresh in out minds, but that defense last night never made adjustments and was torched.

  14. I think it is safe to say that the Todd Bowles experiment is over. He is better suited as a DC.

  15. Yea, but step one for the Bucs has to be finding a competent head coach to do the reloading.

  16. Wow, that comment just goes to show Bowles has no insight into what’s wrong with that team. He is an uninspiring and behind-the-times HC, he has a lot of players who aren’t putting forth effort, and he is going to lose a lot of players this off season.

The Glazers made a smart decision to bring on Brady. He electrified the team and was the spark that led them to the top. But Bowles is killing the team. He blew the playoff game against the Rams last season with that boneheaded decision to run a zero blitz on Stafford and his game plans this year have been amateurish and predictable. The Glazers should make another smart decision and show Bowles the door.

It isn’t fair for anybody to be compared to Urban Meyer who was the most incompetent coach and leader in NFL history.

  18. Need to change the format for getting into the playoffs….stack them by Win /lose record ….not by winning your division with a losing record. If they had done that the Detroit Lions would have been in

  19. Anyone ever notice that Bowles always has this half-smirk on his face all the time, regardless of what is happening? Even when Gage was laying on the field last night, when they showed Bowles he still had that same stupid expression. At least Bruce Arians, as annoying as he is, shows changes in emotion.

  20. I was gonna say Blaine Gabbert is your next QB…then I looked and saw that he’s a free agent. Who knows? New O coordinator. New approach. Bucs at #19 and 50 first two rounds, going to be tough to draft the guy you want at QB. Could be Carr…Lamar…Rodgers. Maybe they hire Hackett as OC and convince A-a-ron to come to where it’s warm.

  21. I was just not impressed with the Bucs WRs this year, and couldn’t figure out what happened to that D with the solid DTs and LBs — is it age?

  22. So many foolish comments…

Let a life-long Bucs fan educate the trolls. When Brady joined the team the Bucs as a franchise had the all-time worst winning percentage in ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS.

They had not won a playoff game in 18 years.
they had not been to the playoffs or won the division in 13 years.

In just 3 seasons Brady led the team to:
    3 playoff appearances
    2 division titles
    1 Super Bowl title

He set every positive single season record for a Bucs QB.
He owns every playoff record for a Bucs QB
He now has thrown more TDs than any QB in Bucs history

The Bucs had 6 playoff wins in 43 years before Brady.
They have won 5 playoff games in 3 seasons with Brady.

I hope he comes back for another season. But if he does not – he succeeded in every way imaginable for the Bucs.
    thank you, Brady!!

  23. “Always” and “never” are the words of a fool.

Stay fluid, Todd…you might not “always” have this job.
