Dolphins quarterbacks coach/pass game coordinator Darrell Bevell will not be the next offensive coordinator for the Jets or the Commanders.

Both teams requested permission to interview Bevell for their vacancies, but Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Bevell has informed them that he is declining the opportunity.

Per the report, Bevell could consider other openings, but neither of those teams were enticing enough to coax him away from Miami. The quarterback situations for both teams figure to be a drawback, although the Dolphins hardly have a sure thing given Tua Tagovailoa‘s concussion issues.

Bevell joined the Dolphins in 2022 after spending the 2021 season as the offensive coordinator and interim head coach of the Jaguars. He closed out the 2020 season as the interim head coach of the Lions and has also run offenses in Minnesota and Seattle.

  1. He’s a good guy to have on this young staff. Been a coordinator for years and has a little head coaching experience. The Dolphins would be wise to keep him on the staff. Tua and McDaniel can lean on him.

Yes, the Jets are in great shape with Zach Wilson under Center. LOL

All is well in Jets Land!

  3. Darrel Bevell is the Brian Gutenkust of OC’s. No matter what else he does in his career, he’ll always be remembered for one terrible pick.

  4. I wonder if it’s the sad state of our team here in Washington, the stupid name or both that made him decline!

  5. I don’t blame him.Sure,Miami lost their first postseason game (in 6 years without making it) against the Bills but there’s something to build on moving forward.I’ve always disliked the Patriots for winning the AFC East forever, but the one thing that always stuck out about them is that they didn’t pay musical chairs.Continually changing personnel hoping to find the right match.it takes time to build a winning formula.
I think the Dolphins should keep Tua…keep Skylar….shore up that offensive line and cross your fingers.
    Let Teddy Bridgewater walk

Why would you? Two of the league’s worst franchises.

Rumor has it, they are trying to pry Matty P away from the Patriots. BWhahahahaa!

  7. Jets turned a bottom D into a top D in one season. Given the emergence of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, along with Johnson’s statement that he will pay big money for a QB, the Jets OC job will obviously be a sought after gig.

Sounds like Rusty is a big fan of Matty P and Mac Jones. You may have missed the news where Woody gave them a blank check to go get a QB.

Yeah if only they can close that one more game win with the Patriots – what an uphill climb! If only they could pry Matt P away

  10. regardless of who the Jets hire, everyone who comments here, and 80% of the Media will say it is a bad choice.

  11. Folks there are only 32 of these jobs in the WORLD …… they are all highly sought after regardless of the team’s situation. Besides which these guys all have an ego that says ‘You’re better than the guy they just fired and you can make this work.’

That said if Bevell has got 5 opportunities (including Miami doing something to sweeten the current situation) then of course he says ‘I really want this one, I kind of like these and those would be my bottom choices.’

For those of you who have never been head-hunted (and I have) this is essentially the process. YOU get called and they tell you how great you are and they’d love to have you as part of their organization would you come in for a talk?

No one goes out to Indeed and applies for an NFL OC job, you get head hunted and you have the power to say Yea or Nay depending on where you are in your career and where you want to go. If those were his only 2 interviews he’d be on the plane.
