The coaching staff changes in Tampa are not limited to the offensive side of the ball.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bucs have fired assistant defensive line coach Lori Locust. The word comes after the team dispatched offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, wide receivers coach Kevin Garver, and running backs coach Todd McNair. Quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen is retiring in another change to the staff.

Locust was the only female defensive coach in the league during the 2022 season. She joined the Bucs in 2019 as the first female position coach in the NFL. She also coached with the Ravens and in the Alliance of American Football before coming to Tampa.

It was a disappointing season for the Bucs despite winning the NFC South and the changes to the coaching staff reflect how far short of expectations the team fell in head coach Todd Bowles’ first season.

  1. Todd Bowles HC record is Regular season record is 34–50 (.405); but they’re firing assistants to fix things in TB?

  2. Wow… HC fires 1/2 the staff including a real coaching pioneer. Essentially the same team as last year, yet the only major change is at HC? This is new heights in throwing people under the bus

  3. And not the head coach? Really? So with those moves, the Bucs will obviously be a top contender! lol

  4. But some how Bowles stays? There are guys that are good coordinators but not good HC’s, he’s one of them.

  5. Tom Brady minus elite coaching (Belichick/Arians) = losing record.

I will not acknowledge that playoff berth because they had no business being in the playoffs. And it showed. So it’s simply that Tommy finished with a losing record. That’s it.

Funny how that happened the one time he didn’t have elite coaching that carries him. Nothing more needs to be said.

  6. This one isnt a big deal shes only there because of Arians. No big loss to the team but still need the head coach to go with everybody else.
