Zac Taylor: NFL formulates plans for coin tosses and neutral sites, we keep screwing it up

Bengals coach Zac Taylor sarcastically apologized to the NFL for ruining its plans after the Bengals beat the Bills to advance to the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

After the regular-season Bengals-Bills game was canceled, the NFL had planned a coin toss to determine home-field advantage if the Bengals finished a half-game ahead of the Ravens in the AFC North, and had planned a neutral site if the AFC Championship Game had been the Bills against the Chiefs. The Bengals thwarted those plans by beating the Ravens in the season finale and by beating the Bills on Sunday.

“It is tough because they have to formulate the plans for coin tosses, and they got to formulate the plans for neutral site games, and we just keep screwing it up for everybody,” Taylor said after the win. “And I hate that for people who have to endure all the logistical issues, we just keep screwing it up. So I’m sorry.”

The rest of the way, there are no special plans: The Bengals visit the No. 1 Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, and if they win that, they advance to their second straight Super Bowl.

  1. Kansas City screwed up the coin flip last year by winning versus Buffalo in ot. Kansas City screwed up the neutral site game by winning versus Jacksonville , or else the afccg would be in cinci. Go Chiefs

  2. I have sympathy for the Bills and their fans after yesterday’s tough loss, but I’m thrilled that the Bengals stuck it to the NFL and their Money, Money, Money machinations.

  3. Enough already with these bengals complaining about the neutral site game, we get it. No one likes it Zac, no one. It was a weird situation that was handled poorly. Get over it, move on, and throttle the chiefs like you always do.

Nope! Keep rubbing it in their faces every chance you get. They made accommodations for Bills, Chiefs and Ravens with nothing given to the Bengals. I want to see them reminding the league and everybody else how poorly run a 17+ billion dollar franchise is run.

  5. Zac ….I’m not an owner, coach or player, but when mock and embarrass Rodger in public HE WILL GET THE LAST LAUGH on you or the Bengals. Expect bogus calls on the Bengals for the rest of the playoffs.

  6. Love how the Bengals really played with a raised set of middle digits to the NFL as they dismantled (rather easily) the team that was the chosen one for this year.

  7. The bungles are a year or two away from a stadium that is 60 / 40 visiting fans. Brown won’t spend the money to sustain this and is relying on rookie contracts for the temporary success. Look at the history: suck for 15 years, get some lucky drafts, compete for 5 years, rinse and repeat.

  8. Dude, the Bengals have been on the receiving end of bogus calls for as long as they’ve been a team. The difference now is that they can beat the other team and the officials, so I’m sure they’re not worried about the wrath of Goodell.

  9. The coin flip with the Ravens for 3rd or 6th seed made no sense when the Bengals were the division winner regardless. Not sure how that even made it into the deal or who even came up with that. The rest of it was just botched by the NFL trying to be cute. Im glad its all went down the way it has, Id rather the Chiefs lose to the Bengals in Arrowhead anyway.
