The Colts are getting closer to making a decision on their head coaching opening.

They have begun narrowing their long list of candidates to a short list of finalists.

Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero has joined that list.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports Evero will have a second interview in Indianapolis.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday also have made the round two cut.

Evero has a second interview scheduled for Wednesday with the Texans, and he has had initial interviews with the Cardinals, Panthers and Broncos.

He spent last season with the Broncos after winning a Super Bowl ring with the Rams during the 2021 season as their secondary coach and passing game coordinator. He was in camp with the Raiders as a player in 2004 and also has worked for the Buccaneers, 49ers and Packers.

  1. Rough year to be a fan of a team looking for a new HC. None of these names sound super exciting.

  2. Who?

He was well regarded throughout the season in Denver. If you look back on their season, the defense played well most of the time. They lost a lot of close games where one more TD or even FG by the offense would have changed the outcome. The defense finally cracked on that Christmas day blowout.

He would be a gamble due to his relatively short resume, but it could turn out well. Of course, the Colts have the downside of a crazy owner. That could play to Evero’s advantage if more experienced candidates pass on the job.

  3. They cant pick Saturday he had the job way up on the Vikes but lost it in the second half and he is done.
