If they win the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, the 49ers will move into a tie for first place for the most postseason wins of any franchise in NFL history.

The record for most postseason wins currently belongs to the Patriots, who have won 37 postseason games in their history (30 of those with Tom Brady at quarterback). The 49ers are currently at 36 postseason wins in franchise history.

San Francisco is actually in a four-way tie for the second-most postseason wins in franchise history; the Cowboys, Packers and Steelers also have 36 postseason wins.

If the 49ers beat the Eagles for postseason win No. 37, they’ll attempt to win No. 38 in the Super Bowl. That would also be their sixth Super Bowl win in franchise history, which would tie the Steelers and Patriots for the most ever.

  1. Is this all time or just since the “Super Bowl?” People tend/like to forget any history before 1966.

It will be tough for SF to catch NE in really any categories.

Yeah, the 49ers are lagging behind in cheating allegations.

  3. 49ers have had a good stretch from 2011. They made the Super Bowl under the Harbaugh regime and then completely rebuilt and have been great since 2019. The only thing they haven’t done is win a Super Bowl. As a Patriots fan, I hope that continues, but much respect to what the ownership did there to get back after the good teams from 2011-2013.

    Yes.
People forget the NFL thrived for over 40 years before the Super Bowl.

  5. The 37 appearances by the Patriots are impressive considering that they didn’t exist prior to 1960. You’d think the older teams like the Cardinals, Bears, and Packers would have way more appearances, and even more championships than they have when you take into account that they played a lot fewer games back then and had less teams in the league. Same goes for the 49ers. They’ve been around longer than the Patriots, but only by 14 years if you include their time in the AAFC before joining the NFL. Still not as long as the older NFL teams.

  6. By conservative estimates there are 12 million Patriots fans. Calling them “incessant whiners” seems a stretch.

When you whine about others being whiners you are, by definition, a whiner.

    Sorry for the reality check.

  7. Yeah but the 49ers have not won a Super Bowl since their serial cheating days of stickum and spraying silicone on jerseys. But good luck to them.

  8. Prior to the Super Bowl era, the different leagues were very small and didn’t play against each other. It is impossible to compare most records from before the ASSB era to those after.

  9. The Patriots really came from nowhere to dominate and rack up 6 SB wins. Pre 2001 they were basically what the Falcons or Panthers are now. A two SB-loss franchise with some decent seasons scattered in with lots of mediocrity and some very poor seasons, too.

  10. “The 37 appearances by the Patriots are impressive considering that they didn’t exist prior to 1960.”

Considering that the Super Bowl Era began in 1967, the Patriots had the same number of chances as other teams, and even more chances from teams that were started later, like the Bengals, Seahawks, Bucs, Jags, Panthers, Ravens and Texans.

  11. Yes.

So much so an upstart league was formed and forced a merger in 6 years (because, you know, we’re actually having to bid on college players in a free market and we can’t have that).

You just said the other day that Bills fans point fingers and make excuses (after a game where I didn’t hear many Bills fans say much beyond ‘we got beat – they were a better team).

    So…….
