Deebo Samuel on playing in Philly: No stadium is as loud as ours

The 49ers are taking some steps in practice this week to make sure that quarterback Brock Purdy is ready for the crowd noise that the team expects to face in Philadelphia, but another member of the offense isn’t too concerned about what the Niners will be up against in Philadelphia.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel acknowledged that fans will be riled up for this Sunday’s game, but said that he doesn’t think any stadium the 49ers visit is going to reach the same volume as the one they already call home.

“We know it’s going to be loud, but no stadium is as loud as ours at the end of the day,” Samuel said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “They’re at home, NFC Championship. They’re going to be all riled up. We don’t really too much feed into all that because we put the pads on and just go to work.”

Crowd noise obviously has a different effect on the home team than the visiting team, but the 49ers have been on the road in loud stadiums in the past without falling apart. That may be more significant than a comparison to Levi’s Stadium when it comes to predicting how they’ll react to their surroundings.

  1. Is this one of those speak it into existence type of things? Have either of these teams venues ever been considered even among the top 5 of loudest stadiums?

  2. There seems to be an attitude from the Eagles fanbase that they expect SF to crumble in the atmosphere. SF showed up to Seattle and won easily. I know Philadelphia is better than Seattle , but if Philly win, it will because they play better football.

  3. Starting to think these guys have no idea what kind of environment they’ll be walking into on Sunday.

  4. The Niners are well accustomed to crowd noise and it won’t be a factor. Just gives philly fans an imaginary advantage.

    Niners 27 eagles 20

  5. There are multiple players on the 49ers roster who have played in Philly before. It will be louder than those regular season games and so what? The crowd will help the Eagles more than it will hurt the 49ers.

  6. I’ve been to games at both stadiums. Honestly, I was impressed with the 49ers fanbase when I was out there for an Eagles road trip. Especially for a “transplant” city. Most trips I go on, particularly transplant type cities, the Eagles fans completely take over. While we had a pretty good showing, we certainly didn’t take over Levi’s field. They were pretty loud, so I get what Samuel is saying. But Philly is on different level. Especially in the playoffs. The reason the fan base is so strong in Philly is because everyone was born here. People don’t transplant to Philly (trust me, we know why). The only places I’ve been to that compare are Pittsburgh, Green Bay and KC. I haven’t been to Buffalo yet, but I hear it’s pretty crazy there too.

  7. Loudest stadiums in order. Seattle doesnt count because they pump in artificial noise: KC, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Minnesota, Lambeau

    Minnesota and New Orleans? bahwwha

    Dome teams don’t count.

We’ve all heard how loud FOxbororough gets for 15-20 years in January. The cameras shake for crying out loud. The old stadium was techinically louder, but that’s because there were more drunks back then.

Go watch the highlight of Otis Smith’s fumble return for a TD in the ’96 title game. The cameras were shaking.

  9. Have to laugh when the media covers a northeast team playing in a big game or series:

How will the Astros deal with the Philly environment? Astros won.
How will the Astros be able to cope with the Yankees crowd? Astros won.
How will the Warriors handle the Boston crowd? Warriors won.

And this is just last year.

Most fairweather fan base by far.

Statistically one of top 3 most committed (ie non fair weather) fan bases. They might be loud and obnoxious, but they’re always there regardless of how the teams doing at any given time.

I’ve been to all of them, so I’ll respectfully disagree with your order. Not even close to order I’d put them in. KC, most definitely. Pittsburgh, definitely. I would add Philly and San Fran to that as well. Lambeau? Maybe I was just there on a bad night, but it was pretty lame when I was there. Of course domes are going to be loud, but I thought Indy and Arizona were just as loud, if not louder, than New Orleans or Minnesota. So I certainly wouldn’t include either of them.

  13. SF showed up to Seattle and barely beat the 25 26 ranked defense. Ask the Vikings from 2017 how that translates to Philly in the playoffs. SF and Oakland were banned from playing each other in the preseason over violence at meaningless preseason games. East Coast has nothing on Cali.

Good to know that 41-23 is barely beating a team.

You do realize that the 21-13 game @Seattle was the road game, right? They are not playing in Santa Clara on Sunday.
