Video of Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt‘s immediate response to the team’s 23-20 AFC Championship Game loss to the Chiefs went viral on Sunday night.

Pratt was filmed walking into the locker room while asking “why the fuck did you touch the quarterback” in response to defensive end Joseph Ossai‘s late hit on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The penalty gave the Chiefs 15 yards and set up Harrison Butker‘s game-winning field goal in the final seconds.

It was an emotional response to a painful moment, which Pratt explained in a comment on an Instagram post that included video of his outburst.

“Yep ppl will post anything on social media for likes and views,” Pratt wrote. “I have real feelings sometimes they are raw. If you love something as much I do sometimes things will be said in the heated of the moment. But I know what type of teammate I am. And what type of man I am. Trust me no love lost Im hurt. Remember some ppl with hate you, rate you and shake you and try to break you but I will stand tall like always.”

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, defensive tackle BJ Hill and others were quick to say that Ossai’s play was not the sole reason why the Bengals lost on Sunday and the team will have plenty of time to reflect on everything that didn’t go their way before they return to the football field.

  1. It was just the cherry on the top of a painful lose. Bengals had almost 4 quarters to dominate and win and bottom line, they didn’t.

  2. It was a major reason they lost. That and they couldn’t beat a QB with a bad paw. KC kept the receipts too.

  3. In a game that close, every play was the deciding play. The refs were worth about 10 points in the Chiefs favor. The NFL is a money machine. Obviously they wanted K.C. In the super bowl. There’s not too much the Bengals could have done to beat the zebras.

  4. I hate to say this, but the refs made sure that things didn’t go the Bengals way.
    Torbert is the worst
The only reason he gets good games is because he’s been there forever. He’s like the guy they can’t fire because he’s been there so long

  5. Often in the moment that momentum is not easy to just turn off and stop yourself. I get it, the rule is the rule, but some of those are more flagrant than others, and that little push on Mahomes wasn’t very flagrant.

  6. “Remember some ppl with hate you, rate you and shake you and try to break you but I will stand tall like always.”

    Just ask Ossai

True, but his play was the final play of the game so it will be remembered up there with the Cowboys/49ers final play of the game (both years). It may not be fair but it is the one play people will remember.

What is also true is that, without that play, at that moment, the game goes to overtime.

  8. Chiefs fan here. I get it and didn’t judge, it’s an emotional game, extreme highs and lows. The longevity of it was a little weird.

  9. Saved his QB from a beating in the Super Bowl as the Bengals OL vs the Eagles DL is an ugly match up.

  10. Yes, there several questionable penalties and non-calls that went against Cincy. But to be fair, Cincy was handed a gift when Mahomes fumbled the ball without being touched and the Bengals turned it into the tying touchdown.

  11. This is the 53rd yr of Cincy’s franchise, and not a lot to show for it. Like it or not, they’ve been called the Bungles for a very long time. They had plenty of opportunities yesterday to seize control of that game. They did not, and are looking for blame. If the guy doesn’t have brain-lock and shove Mahomes into a Gatorade cooler, they might be celebrating today. Instead, they are legitimately out of luck. Case closed.
