Aaron Rodgers: Nathaniel Hackett is my guy, he made it fun

The Jets’ decision to hire Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator added fuel to speculation that they will make an attempt to trade for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason and Rodgers’ relationship with Hackett came up during a Tuesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

Hackett was the offensive coordinator in Green Bay when Rodgers won MVP awards in 2020 and 2021 and Rodgers had nothing but warm memories about the time they spent together.

“Love Hack. Hack is my guy. Love him and Megan and the kids,” Rodgers said. “They’re really special to me. We really bonded when he was in Green Bay. He made it fun. He made the room fun. He made the weeks fun.”

Rodgers’ comments came after he made it clear that he hasn’t made a call on playing in 2023 and that he hasn’t had any talks about a trade that would move him out of Green Bay for his 19th NFL season. He also noted close relationships with a number of other former Packers assistants like Tom Clements and Alex Van Pelt, but Hackett’s presence with the Jets has made that association a more relevant one heading into the offseason.

  1. If he goes to the Jets he will be the OC. Saleh is completely lost on O and will gladly let Rodgers run the show in NY.

  2. It’s time to move on. Sometimes you’re just simply in the same place for far too long. A change of scenery is best for everybody.

  3. Scorched earth tactics are now in full-gear. So, no one on the Pack is his “guy”?

  4. Aaron, just move on already this offseason and say you want to get traded (whether to the Jets or elsewhere). Every year doesn’t need to be 2 months of suspense just so you could stay in the headlines.

  5. Its super bowl week, Rodgers isn’t MVP or playing, so expect daily cryptic comments. He HAS to be in the headlines. So, was that statement that he wants to leave to be with Hacket or a dig at his real family that he doesn’t want to be with?

  6. He isn’t retiring and I don’t see a trade happening even though I would love to see it, not that I want to see Love all much. He isn’t worth the headache he brings and isn’t committed enough to justify $60M. He calls the shots because of the contract and I think he is going to make sure Love isn’t the guy.

  7. Cant understand how he is so in love with a guy that looks quite off and failed so miserably in Denver

  8. Can’t wait for everyone to slam Rodgers as a being a pot stirrer for giving an honest answer on a radio show about a person he used to work with.

Where was this love when he played with him. Then it was I should have more control of the offense. Rodgers is trolling here.

  10. Why cant Rodgers just shut up and make his decision in silence.he wants to be in the news all the time thats why he keeps everyone guessing on his future.play or retire but do it soon because your team must move foreward with or without you.

Hackett failed in Denver not GB.
But let’s be clear, Hackett was NOT the play caller in GB. That was Matt LaFleur’s offensive system and Matt was the play caller.
Rodgers might be onboard with Hackett but another teams (Jets?) players may not be onboard. Rodgers can’t say to Hackett or new teammates remember that play… or vice versa.

  12. Rodgers is a media diva. And, yes, he enjoys stirring the pot to get attention. He does this EVERY year. It’s getting to be very annoying.

Hey Rodgers…….How can we miss you if you won’t go away?

  13. I think Brady’s retirement means Rodgers will play at least another season. That way he doesn’t go into the HOF the same year as Brady and doesn’t have to share the spotlight.

  14. As I said elsewhere:

Rodgers appears on McAfee once a week ONLY. I don’t want to hear his weirdness anymore, so I no longer watch McAfee. For me, it’s that simple.

The MEDIA, then spends the next WEEK, breaking down every word he said, every way they possibly can, instead of going out and hustling up their own stories.

You all get tired of hearing it, and rightfully so.

But then you wrongly blame Rodgers (who I also can’t stand) for the MEDIA that keeps pounding this nonsense in front of your eyes and ears.

You wanna stop hearing about every time Rodgers farts? Stop interacting. Stop commenting. Stop clicking the bait. As soon as there’s no money in stalking Rodgers, they’ll stop. Then they’ll stalk someone else. And then you guys can cry about that.

  15. OK, now we are over the brady retirement vs playing, can we PLEASE PLEASE get this GB situation over with? One waffling GB quarterback was enough, now we have had it twice. Aaron please…NFL fans are begging you, make a decision, and/or please stop talking, please, we beg you.

  16. This makes sense.

Rodgers is happy just making his $60M and hanging out with Hackett. He doesn’t care about winning.

First ballot HOF QB Russell Wilson is obsessed with excellence. You don’t get to be arguably the best QB in the NFL without such dedication. He didn’t stand for Hackett’s lackadaisical approach and there was friction.

Payton better be ready for the grind to victory or he, too, will be gone.

  17. With the announcement Tom Brady is retiring,…Rodgers is definitely playing. He wants no part of a HOF Induction along with Brady.
I know Hackett and Rodgers bonded,… I posted that on here a few times.
But is it enough of a connection to precipitate a trade ? I think it is.
The Jets are closer than the Packers to a SB run. Packers are reshaping the offense. I can see a trade, maybe multiple trades… it’s not just the Rodgers contract they’d like to see off the salary cap.

  18. The failure to trade Rodgers for that draft haul they would have gotten from the 49ers will go down in infamy. One of the dumbest non-moves of all time.

    Perfect.

  20. But just yesterday he was shocked and appalled that the Packers might be having discussions without him. Did somebody realize that they weren’t the hottest girl at the prom anymore?

  21. Come on, this whole process is interesting and gives us all something to whine about. After all is said and done, I still think he’ll in green and gold next year.

  22. Rodgers and Bak to the Jets, with all the other glue guys Aaron wants to take. See you in March.

  23. So when you are able to make being forced to live in Green Bay fun it does matter that you suck as a coach(denver)?

  24. Hackett has as many super bowl wins as all our Vikings coaches combined. Let that sink in . . .

  25. Kiss of death uttered by Ewwin Wawgers. Should that clown stay with Green Bay, it will be a game max before Ewwin throws Nathaniel under the bus.

  26. The failure to trade Rodgers for that draft haul they would have gotten from the 49ers will go down in infamy. One of the dumbest non-moves of all time.
    ==========

Sam Farmer reported the Packers were offered the Stafford deal. They should have taken it.

… and then they doubled down with a new contract.

This is what bad franchises do. Hard to watch after 30+ years of doing it about as well as anyone.

  27. I think Brady’s retirement means Rodgers will play at least another season. That way he doesn’t go into the HOF the same year as Brady and doesn’t have to share the spotlight.
    ==========

They’re friends. Or at least friendly. What if they say, ‘lets make this the HOF Class ever’?

.. and if Rodgers ego is as ginormous as everyone thinks, its HIS Class whether Brady is in it or not.
