Aaron Rodgers says he’s “not going to San Fran”

On Wednesday, the 49ers said they don’t plan to pursue any high-profile veteran quarterbacks this offseason. On Thursday, one specific high-profile veteran quarterback said he won’t be joining the 49ers.

Aaron Rodgers, at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, said when asked for any news said, “I’m not going to San Fran.”

Two years ago, it was an effort by the 49ers to trade for Rodgers that caused his situation with the Packers to hit the fan, one day before the 2021 draft. The Packers said no then.

Apparently, neither the 49ers nor Rodgers have any interest in joining forces this time around. Or maybe the Packers have made it clear that, if a trade happens, it won’t involve a team in the NFC.

In 2005, Rodgers wanted the 49ers to make him the first overall pick in the draft. They selected Alex Smith instead, and Rodgers plunged out of the top 20.

  1. He’s not going anywhere, and he’s not retiring either. He’s simply an egomaniac who needs to have his name in the news cycle every single off season, and especially around the Superbowl since he’s never playing in it

  2. Technically he wouldn’t be going to “San Fran” even if the 49ers acquire him. He would be going to Santa Clara.

    Minnesota usually gets GB’s leftovers.

    **************************************
Yeah, they are dying to get the “leftovers” from an 8 win team that sucked all year.

    Sure…

  4. If he cares about winning another SB he should definitely consider SF. But I’m sure he only truly cares about winning another MVP.

  5. Packers will only let him go if it’s an AFC that leaves the Jets and Titans. He’s not going anywhere. Staying in GB is going to cause a fiasco with Love, (again). I feel the end will result in the spoiled will stay, love will leave. The following year he will retire leaving GB without their former QB pick. This will leave a Packers team with no QB and very happy Rodgers leaving GB in the rubble of his doing. Just my 2 cents.

  6. If the Packers and Rodgers end up going the route of a trade, the Packers shouldn’t fear a trade inside the NFC. They can’t expect to really compete with Love for a few years (or if ever). So why not maximize your options. Doing anything else is just being petty.

  7. Oh gosh! The drama!

Mr Immunized has spoken everyone, listen up. Pay attention to the delicate genius as he updates us while pretending not to update us on where he may or may not want to play next year or if he will play at all. The suspense is killing me!

Can’t wait for the next episode in the Aaron soap opera!

  8. I told you that no established QB who has a choice would risk injury to play for Shanahan.

You can bet he and others have a team wo are keenly aware of Shanahan’s QB destruction mill.

  9. Pay him, put him on the sideline in street clothes and a clipboard, begin calling him “coach,” and start Jordan Love.

  10. Will Miami go for him? The Jets dont have the offensive line … At least the Dolphins have more weapons.

  11. With a 110 million dollar contract the next two years the Packers should be the one giving the picks to get someone to take this albatross of a salary off their hands. At some point a desperate team like the Raiders or Jets will offer a 2024 4th rounder and Rodgers will have a new home. Although, I don’t think the Packers can finacially execute this trade until June 1.

  12. Aaron Rodgers gave this interview from his spaceship cruising thru the Andromeda galaxy

  13. His contract is going to make it very difficult to trade him, especially to a team that has good players that are highly paid or are due for a big contract soon. Only the bad teams with low payrolls can afford his contract, but why would he want to go to a bad team? He and the Packers are stuck with each other.

  14. Can y’all just relax a little and get off the hate bus for a minute? He was teeing up his golf ball when the question was shouted at him and he was grinning when he answered and the crowd laughed. For Pete’s sake, lighten up!

  15. Just saying “San Fran” automatically disqualifies him from becoming the Niner QB. Of all the odious nicknames that people bandy about for that fair city, that one seems to have stuck with ex-Dallas Crybaby types in the media. It is extremely cringe-worthy to any and all of the Faithful.

  16. We’re all such fools. All Aaron wants is all of us talking about him. Fans and media. And it’s happening just as he wants it.

  17. Rodgers will end up at SF. Unless Adams wants him in Vegas. NYJ is a possibility too,… but I don’t think he plays in GB next season. GB isn’t in shape for a SB run and he knows it. He wants a chance to get there. Which roster is ready. SF is the better fit.

  18. Ya he is so full of it. NOt fooling us twice Rodgers! This bs, I havent thought about anything and wont until the SB is over is b and s. He knew from the last day of the season what he was planning on and its return to the pack for that sweet 58 mil then hit the road to retirement.
I say he has no plans for a trade either. He knows he runs the show in GB not going somewhere where the Gm runs the show.

    I still think he’s a head case.
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
No its just him thinking he is so smart he can play mind games with us. In the end its all ego for him. He knows exactly what his plans are and it never was to retire and turn down 58 mil.

  20. Why does the NFL media insist on giving breathless coverage to the nothing-burgers these guys spew all off-season? They’re all lying through their teeth anyway, what’s the point in listening?

  21. If anyone trades for Rodgers is would more likely be the Raiders the 49ers are trapped with Brock Purdy coming back from a difficult injury since Shanahan is such a fool he talked Jimmy out of San Francisco already.

  22. Now if he called it “Frisco” – I’d totally believe him. Because that would be a deal-killer for Niner fans.

  23. I know he will not being doing so this year… but good grief, I’ll rejoice the day he retires. For One superbowl appearance in 15 years as the starter, the amount of b.s. he causes is way past the threshold of acceptance

  24. The Niners have been kicking themselves for not drafting Aaron. No championships in 28 seasons. That’s gotta hurt, even if they get some minor playoff wins over him.

  25. The 49’s have two young, highly talented QB’s on their roster that, with combined salaries, are earning a scant fraction of what Rogers is demanding. Bringing in an aging veteran with them under contract for the next few years would make very little sense. Don’t know why Rogers felt the need to state the obvious.

  26. Was never the 49ers .. Jets, Raiders, Titans all in the mix. 50/50 odds Rodgers is with the Packers next year and 50 million reasons for him not to retire. Packer brass looks to be considering a trade and hopefully it happens. Some owner/gm will want to make a splash and take him off their hands. Time to move on even if it’s a year to late.

The niners do not have the cap space or the picks for Rodgers, but could afford Brady.
——————————————————————————————–I don’t know if you have the news where you live, but Brady retired. Also they could not afford him unless they released or traded 2-3 high quality (in their eyes) pieces they need to win anything. Look at who they have to pay and then look at the holes. I am telling you Shannahan lost some of the locker room after this last game. Ever see Bosa quit in a game? He did last week in a Championship game. He quit! Also Rodgers probably didn’t have much of a political stance in 05 as a kid. He does now, and he won’t be going anywhere “blue” where he has to answer ridiculous questions about his “feelings”.

  28. He could have heard about the 49ers comment made on Wed, and being that Pebble Beach is in the Bay Area and was asked the next day, just made a tongue-in-cheek comment about not going there since it seemed like a funny thing to say in the context. Everyone takes these comments that are not meant to be statements so seriously.

  29. When as gaslighter makes a statement like this, it means Shanahan already told him “San Fran” isn’t going to trade for him.

Har har, and he won’t be going to Arlington, New Jersey or Landover either.

  31. Of all the reasons Rodgers won’t be in San Fran next year, the idea that the Packers won’t trade him to an NFC team is the dumbest. The Packers without Rodgers is a total tear-down/re-build situation, and the last thing they would need to worry about is the 49ers getting in the way of a Packer Super Bowl. Rodgers would be long gone before the Packers were competitive again.

  32. I would imagine most Packers fans want this loser gone.
    ==========

    The drama is exhausting.

But in my lifetime, having watched two of the best to ever do it, its hard to be excited about the future.

  33. Minnesota usually gets GB’s leftovers.

    ………………………………

    And does nothing with them…

And any other talent they may get.

  34. Aaron Rodgers is what happens when you’re nearly in your 40’s and don’t have a wife and or family.

  35. Oh he’ll be going to San Fran alright……to get on a plane and head out of town to someplace where he once again become the center of attention. 9ers don’t want a 40 yr old loser who requires a baby sitter.

  36. Yeah, they are dying to get the “leftovers” from an 8 win team that sucked all year.

    Sure…

They’ve been signing ex-Packer players for decades, Longwell, Sharper, Jennings, Favre, Z-Smith and more! Pleae tell us you don’t follow the NFL without telling us you don’t follow the NFL.

How about Frisco or a city by a body of water? No Cal? How about Santa Clara or just Clara?

  38. The Packers should stick with Love. Trade Rodgers to an NFC team, preferably within the NFCN so Love can beat him twice.

Not a fan of Rodger’s but he’s playing in a high profile golf tournament and was asked the question.

  40. Stupid! SF would be a great place for him to go. The management team who pass on him is not the one that is there now.

Totally agree. He knew before the season ended what his plans were but loves these mind games because he gets to be in the news and it strokes his ego. I say he will come back and only play for the pack he doesnt want a trade to somewhere where he doesnt rule the roost

  42. Can hardly wait to see Rogers in a Jets jersey. I wonder if they’ll issue #4 to him?
    ==========

    Hadn’t thought of that.

Joe Namaths #12 is retired…. guess he’d probably go for 16? (Joe Montana)

    ××××××××××

I’ve won more MVP’s than Montana ie. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. So no, #16 is out. If the Jets want me they’d have to unretire Namath’s #12. After all, who’s the real legend? It’s ME, even if it’s in my own mind.

  46. Hackett or no Hackett, the Jets, despite their history, are not stupid enough to bring Rodgers in or trade for him. I can not believe Joe Douglas is that stupid.

Now we can wait and see who gets the lunacy crown.

  47. That was his one last chance to win a Super Bowl but his poor bruised ego and pettiness won’t allow it something nobody should be surprised by.

  48. 49ers don’t want him. I could see Rodgers in Miami too – Nashville, Vegas as well as staying in GB because nobody wants him now.
