Matthew Judon: We’ve got a great deal of confidence in Mac Jones

It’s not a mystery why the Patriots went 8-9 and missed the playoffs. While they ranked eighth in total defense and 11th in scoring defense, the Patriots were only 26th in total offense and 17th in scoring offense.

Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon said there was never a division within the locker room and expressed faith in quarterback Mac Jones, whose 84.8 passer rating ranked 26th in the NFL.

“I think we’ve got a great deal of confidence in Mac,” Judon said Saturday, via NFL Media. “And we’re going to see, because we know what type of player he can be. We saw it at the collegiate level, high school level, and we saw it at a pro level. And so that’s what we need. He knows that. And we’re going to be backing him just as long as he’s our quarterback. As long as he’s on the team, we’re going to be backing him. And I don’t plan that he’s going anywhere anytime soon.”

Jones, a first-round choice in 2021, made the Pro Bowl and helped the Patriots to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. He regressed in 2022.

The Patriots, though, had Matt Patricia and Joe Judge running the offense in 2022. They recently hired Bill O’Brien to take over the offense for next season.

That has Judon optimistic about Jones, the offense and the future.

“Everybody can see we’re gonna be a damn good team,” he said.

  1. Mac Jones doesn’t scare anyone. He hasn’t shown the ability in his 2 seasons to be a game altering player (for the better at least). He’s shown a penchant for frustrations and turnovers when things get tough. As long as the Pats saddle themselves with a mediocre QB, they’ll be a mediocre team.

I remember when teams feared the Patriots. Then the Goat left.

Brady was awful in 2019 and awful this year going 8-9.

He joined an All Star offense in 2020. Whopdee-doo.

The GOAT GM and Coach made Brady after he was lucky to be drafted. You were in diapers 20 years ago and that’s ok.

The proof was in the pudding when BB dismantled Brady in 2021 and Mac Jones outplayed Brady on national tv.

BB is responsible for everything including Brady’s development and what he became, just like all the other great players.

  3. lowlyfinfan88, you need to remind yourself that your moniker is spot on.

Since 2021, the Dolphins have won 1 division title, in 2008, after tying the Patriots for 1st place but winning it by a tiebreaker. The Patriots played a first place schedule without Brady, starting a QB with no NFL experience that didn’t even start in college.

This year, one there was a one game difference in their respective records.

Let’s see how the games play out next year before anointing any team a success or failure.

Yes, Gronk was the biggest mismatch on offense ever. Not only the Patriots were not the same after he retired but also Tampa.

  5. Tom Brady was nothing but a nice little system QB with a little arm who has ZERO winning seasons without elite coaching. There’s a good reason why the Bucs didn’t want him back. They can and will do a lot better at QB. They know that they were held back by an inferior QB last season.

  6. In 2023, we’ll get to see what Mac Jones really is, now that the Patriots will have a competent OC. On the other side of the ball, Matt Judon has been a great addition to the team, as a player and as a leader.

79-87. You know what that is? Keep scrolling….

Bill Belichick’s coaching record without Tom Brady.

That’s the equivalent of over ten years of coaching.

New England indeed kept decent pace with Miami this year. Thanks to a third string QB and Miami having the Chargers and Niners on their schedule while the Pats had stalwarts like the Colts and Cardinals on their schedule. Pats lost to every good team they played this year – and beat an injury riddled defense and third string QB led Miami team in December at home by 2 points.

BB is done. His act is tired and players don’t want to deal with him anymore because the trade off of winning isn’t there. They’re the fourth best team in that division once the Jets find a competent QB.

  8. Brady was awful in 2019 and awful this year going 8-9.

Lol. Right, the “dismantling” in a game they lost and still gave up almost 400 yards. But the genius wasn’t able to “dismantle” Dak Prescott two weeks later or Josh Allen in their woeful playoff showing. Without Brady, the Pats will still spank the bad teams badly but cannot beat a good team. Their offence scares no one and even solid defense cannot make up for it. If you’re relying on Bill O’Brien to save you…good luck. TB12 circa 2010 isn’t walking in the door.

  9. Mac Jones with a competent OC may be okay.

The big question is what’s his rookie deal ends what do the Patriots do?

He is okay on a rookie deal but what about after?

  10. The Patriots were pretty close to being a playoff team this year, if not for some uncharacteristic mistakes.

I think they’ll compete for the division in the upcoming season – but I’d say that about every AFCE team, any of which could take the next step.

I’m curious if Mac Jones’ play on the field will ever match the hype we hear from NE’s players & fans. He has had games where it seemed like he was turning a corner, but he also doesn’t seem to have the skillset to compete w/ the league’s best.

I remember when the Bills run in the ’90s ended, it was tough to accept that they didn’t own the division anymore. I see that in Pats fans now; that feeling that the Bills (or whichever team) is just keeping the seat warm until NE returns to dominance. The reality of the NFL is that it might not happen for many years, or at all.

  11. BB is responsible for everything including Brady’s development and what he became, just like all the other great players.

What’s the over/under for when ThumbsDown6 tosses BB under the Greyhound Bus?

Mac Jones is a bust one of the many mistakes BB has made

  12. In 2023, we’ll get to see what Mac Jones really is, …

    ++++++++++++++++++

Check how Drew Brees played in his first 2 seasons, even though he had LaDainian Tomlinson.

BTW, Reche Caldwell, who was his #5 or #6 receiver, was Brady’s #1 receiver in 2006.

  13. Mac will be playing under his third OC in three years in 2023. The first half of next season will be an adjustment period. We’ll start to get a real idea of what he can do in November or so. And if his rookie season is any indication, he’ll be pretty good.

  14. Bahahaha!!

Mac Jones is a scrub. A second year bust, a crybaby drama queen, disrespectful to his coaches, and at least three incidents of dirty play. Classless.

  15. Hahahahahaha the best part of this site is the delusional fat losers in Boston who need to live vicariously through a disgraced irrelevant talentless qbless cheating joke of a team that was completely exposed the second Brady stopped carrying that cheating parasite belichick.

  16. These comments are hilarious. No one even knows what the rosters will look like next year. Everyone had the Eagles pegged for the Super Bowl this time last year, right? 49ers getting to the NFC championship with a 3rd string quarterback? That’s why we play and watch games. Free agency and the draft matter every single year. Worst to first in the divisions happens all the time. And you can bank on an Undrafted Free Agent becoming an eventual Pro Bowler in the coming year. But have fun trying to get a rise out of Pats fans. You are going to have to do it for at least twenty years to gain anything. Sounds like a lot of typing. Save the caps lock for those special occasions.

    **********************************

I did not have the Eagles pegged…..until late Spring/Early Summer. They had an amazing off season, and I followed closely the week they played New England in the pre-season in 2021 and Hurts was playing much better than anticipated, so I already felt like he was a bit underrated. It was not a murderer’s row schedule in 2022. The NFC was weak and had fewer tough QB’s for Philly to get through. I also knew they had a d-line. So they were my NFC pick. I told this to an Eagles fan (far from home) in a bar after week 3 and he was taken aback. He had no idea what was coming.

  18. Now if he can add slapping to his dirty plays he’ll be the man we all know him to be.
