Aaron Rodgers: Darkness isolation retreat will get me closer to a “final, final decision”

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is aware of the chatter surrounding his future. But he’s not ready to make any definitive statements about it.

That’s what Rodgers said in his usual Tuesday interview on the Pat McAfee Show, noting he plans to take time in isolation after the Super Bowl to come to a final decision about what he wants to do.

Rodgers added he’s not even sure whether or not he’d like to play in 2023.

“That’s why I think it’s going to be important to get through this week and take my isolation retreat and contemplate all things [related to] my future,” Rodgers said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Rodgers said he’s going to spend four days and nights in total darkness and isolation on his retreat, which can lead to hallucinations. That will give him, “an opportunity to do a little self-reflection in some isolation and after that, I feel like I’ll be a lot closer to that final, final decision.”

While Rodgers may end up playing for the Packers, another team, or not at all next season, he did say that he’s still under contract with Green Bay. So even if there is a chance he plays for another team, that’s not entirely up to him.

We’ll apparently hear about whatever comes out of Rodgers’ retreat at some point after Super Bowl LVIII.

  1. I read the the title and assumed Aaron was screwing up the lyrics to Enter Sandman.

  2. He’s going about things in the wrong order. Playing for the Jets or Raiders will eventually take him to some pretty dark places.

  3. As a longtime fan of the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, I gotta say his mind appears to be headed off the cliff.

  4. Just come to western NY. The sun hasn’t shined here in two months.

  5. Dark isolation in one of his multi-million dollar luxury homes. He’s an inspiration for monks searching their soul for answers.

  6. What if he comes out of it speaking a foreign language and becomes unfamiliar with a football?

  7. Good for him – its good to be able to find a deeper sense of self and more people probably need to do so as well.

And he loves how much what he does bugs the heck out of others. No clue why others are so judgmental what he does and why??

  8. This dude is a next level “try hard”. I’d like to eavesdrop on a conversation between him and Kyrie Irving.

  9. “Total darkness and isolation” sounds like the Packers in the 70’s and 80’s. And with the biggest Superbowl window in NFL history inches from closing, the fanbase better drop the entitlement and get ready for the rocky road ahead.

  10. It’s impossible to like this guy. Lucky for him he can play football. Otherwise he’d just be the weird guy down the street.

Ahh … he just won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, is in commercials and hosted Jeopardy.

  12. “No clue why others are so judgmental what he does and why??”

Did you miss the ‘famous football player’ part ? I kinda think that’s why.

Gosh I hope he doesn’t come to my team.

    ———-

I think you will come around when they start winning ball games.

  14. If all the insanely successful people in life are this nutty, what does that say about the rest of us?

  15. Getting weirder. I actually think it best for him to go to another team where he has to get fired up to prove himself.

  16. He’s not going to retire now because he doesn’t want to go into the HOF the same year as Brady.

The biggest drama Queen we have seen in awhile.

    I raise you Tom Brady.

  18. I like and love Aaron Rodgers….HOF QB….No doubt.

BUT he should just say I’m soon going to decide.

    The latest announcement is overkill:

TMI = Too Much Information = is a turnoff with his approach here….You’re “Too Into Yourself” and now project nihilism…..i.e., Get Over Yourself….you are good, but you’re not a God.

  19. Ohh groovy baby n hey ya better behave whilest stuck in the man cave .. but who does he think he’s actually kidding ??? … all about the money money money there hunny and as someone mentioned a few days back ain’t no way is I gonna spend the same gold jacket day n stage with Brady !!!

  20. Who’s got the time machine?

Somebody send me back to the time when the NFL news cycle was 5 months of the season, and the Draft.

  21. Hes way too old to be this corny. Every day he comes up with some new BS that makes us all go WOW what a dork.

  22. Memes aside… Four days is excessive, I’d say. But… when was the last time you put away your phone/tv/etc, closed your eyes, and remained awake with your thoughts? It’s valuable and worth doing. Start at 5 or 10 minutes.

  23. He is the most orchestrated dude around the walking off the field arm and arm with his longtime teammate was laughable ,

  24. It has to make you wonder, why can’t this guy keep a healthy relationship with anyone…anyone at all? His family, friends, and numerous ladies are nearly all now “estranged” from him.

  25. All you cracking wise on Rodgers, making fun. Look at what a real asset you are (or are not) to your friends, family, community. Most of you truly live lives that are a warning to others, NOT an example. And you know it.

    Very well-played!

  27. I’d explore putting him on the Non-Football Injury list for mental disorders. I’m no doctor, but a Dr. may be able to find several that apply.

  28. We always want to get mad at athletics but why don’t we save some of that anger for the media people who keep asking the same questions?

  29. If Aaron is not in front of a camera (Pat Mcafee 2 week vacation) for 2 weeks will he cease to exist?

  30. What’s with these Green Bay quarterbacks? 1st there was Favre, now it’s Rodgers.

  31. There are definitely easier ways to hallucinate if that’s the end goal A-A-Ron. No need to hang out in darkness for four days and four nights. Just remember some people don’t come back from those trips.

Please NY Jets offer 2 1sts and mid rders for this guy! Please!

    ———-
Why would you want that? So the Pats will be firmly entrenched in last place in the AFCE?

  33. Aaron appears to be a few fries short of a Happy Meal. What team would want to take on his salary and nonsense??

  34. I think this guy just likes messing with all of us, and by the amount of publicity he gets, it’s obviously working.

The man definitely marches to his own drum beat. Definitely has his flaws. But honestly, I have more respect for a man who may be a little out there but puts it all out there and just gives zero —-s what anyone thinks than a guy like Russell Wilson who is all polished corporate HR department speak that we all know is an act.

  36. sharing the HOF stage with TB12 aint happening .. so AAron playing this yr..next question ..

  37. …and I curse the life I’m living and I curse my poverty and I wish that I could be, oh I wish that I could be…Aaron Rogers. (Apologies to Paul Simon).

  38. Absolutely 0% chance he retires and goes into HOF the same year as Brady. I’d bet $100k today he doesn’t retire. Ego maniacs cannot share the spotlight.

  39. Any chance he could extend that isolation and not be heard from for at least the entire off season?

  40. GB fan here.

This guy is getting more weird by the minute. Is it any wonder why he can’t maintain a relationship with anyone?

Yeah, NE has never slowed down Aaron Rodgers before like this year into OT with a 3rd string QB or anything or any other match up prior.

    LOL

The NY Jets renting Rodgers and tossing picks would be a Jetsie classic!

The Pats were a punt return away from losing to the Jets with Zach Wilson at the helm. I’m pretty.sure Aaron could muster up a score or two. Meanwhile, we will still be stuck with Max Jones.

  43. Rodgers plays in GB, nothing more isolated from civilization than that. He should know already.
I can see him in GB because few teams are interested in the guy with that price tag.He has declined.

  44. Ever seen Aviator? Rodgers is going full on Howard Hughes

    Come in with the milk
    Come in with the milk
    Come in with the milk
    Come in with the milk
    Come in with the milk

  45. And again, what Aaron Rodgers is currently up to doesn’t break any laws or harm anyone else.
It’s odd that so many fans have issues with it.
It’s not like he’s killing dogs (Michael Vick), raping coeds (Big Ben), physically torturing 7 year olds (Adrian Peterson), or beating up ex girlfriends (Dalvin Cook).
These are just a few random ones I’ve mentioned, the NFL is littered with terrible people who deserve your condemnation more.
Yet, these players have been routinely lauded for their on-field accomplishments and lifestyles.

If you honestly don’t want to hear about Aaron Rodgers stop clicking and commenting.
It’s really as simple as that.
Trust me, without the traffic, they’ll stop posting these nothing stories and move on to someone or something else.
But, you can’t, that’s what’s so amusing about all of this false indignation.

For what it’s worth, Aaron Rodgers has said over the last few years that these decisions will be made before the start of the new league year and free agency, which is still 5 weeks away.
Christ, the Super Bowl hasn’t even been played yet.
Plenty of time for Green Bay to make any contingency plans, in fact, they’re already in motion.
Though it’s be nice to get the lay of the land as early as possible, the Packers’ front office has everything covered.

    __________

Tell me you’ve never been to Green Bay without telling me you’ve never been to Green Bay. 🤔

  47. I have to wonder if Aaron has Native American blood?
Next, as the article says, Aaron is under contract to play for Green Bay next year, If he gets traded, it would be in the best interest og Green Bay to decide. He does have right of refusal, so NO, he isn’t going to the j e t s JETS, to be on a losers’team
Raiders are the best bet, if green bay decides to go with Love

  48. Man, what’s her name got him into peyote in the jungle. Now A-A-Ron is tripping his head off regularly! lol.

  49. Notice his decision has literally nothing to do with the actual sport itself. Richy Rich has to go tripping through his own head space just to know what he wants? Get real. Everyone knows he’s coming back, making 60 million, and going to spend the offseason tripping on whatever and feeding nothing burgers to media folks. What team he plays for is really the only question.

  50. This site obviously does’t like Aaron the Freethinker. He responds to queries from the media because the NFL tells him he has to. He doesn’t call for a media announcement. So he tells the media what his attorney tells him to say within NFL guidelines: I will not be available for more questions until after my retreat. This may become a standard response for players weary from a pestering media.

  51. Rodgers is much like Lebron…one of the greatest of all time, but extremely unlikeable, to the point of irritation

You know, when you make a comment like this, it really shows how myopic your vision must be. It’s likely that you’ve never really traveled anywhere outside of your neighborhood. SMH at people like you.

  53. And Matthew Berry had the balls to say Tom Brady was stealing the attention from the super bowl, not quite dude!

  54. First Brady posts in his skivvies holding what is left of his gonads after FTX and Giselle, now this. What happened to real men QBs like Stabler, Kilmer, Broadway Joe and Bobby Layne. What is next, Derek Carr wants to be a Truck?

  55. When Aaron does this exercise the room’s lightless environment will match the interior of his mind.

  56. Don’t need isolation and darkness to elicit hallucinations, just look at your 2022 season now THAT was a hallucination.

I’d agree with you if Rodgers was just odd and quirky but his deceit, lying and outright arrogance are difficult to take.
The difference between Rodgers and Wilson is that Rodgers doesn’t give a shot what anybody thinks. Wilson might worry too much about what everyone thinks, hence the $3 bill persona.

  58. He was playing in a golf tournament, the NFL can’t make him answer questions there. I really dislike Rodgers and hope he never plays for anyone but Green Bay. He’s only got another year, maybe 2 and then he’ll be gone for good with the Packers getting nothing in return. Not that it matters, especially to him , but I have no issues with his isolation plan. I kind of wish I could do something like that myself. Just don’t announce it, it really is nobody’s business and it sure looks like he wanted the interaction with the media. All he had to say was ‘I haven’t decided yet’.

  59. All joking aside and they are good. Packer fan since 1965. This is what the front office has to deal with. I really feel for his parents.

  60. Rodgers is just stalling. My guess is he knows exactly what he wants to do but he’s not going to tip his hand before he has to.
The Packers should immediately announce that Jordan Love will be the starting QB in 2023, no matter what else happens. If Rodgers agrees to a trade, great. If not, bench him, make him 3rd or 4th string. Let that be part of his enduring legacy, all that talent but only managed to win 1 Super Bowl and he was such a pain that his team benched him even while they paid him $60M in his last year.

  61. “Aaron the Freethinker” …LMAO!! It’s so amusing to see someone say Aaron is being told to say what his lawyers want him to say because the NFL mandates it and in the same breath (or online comment) say he’s a free thinker. His post-hallucination screeds are not “free thought” any more than the stoner talking about the back of a 20 dollar bill. Remember what Hunter S. Thompson said, “You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.”

  62. Well, if he stays awake for 4 days straight and counts $175 per second the entire time, he will realize he has 60M reasons to come back and play for someone next year.

  63. Wherever he ends up next year is less interesting then where this wackado is going to end up after his playing career is over. Deep in the woods in a broken down shack, on a compound somewhere, in the Himalayas with a monk, Tom Cruise’s house… I think all are on the table.

For anyone in an career who has done well enough to be financially secure and loves their job but also has a lot of interests outside of work, it’s often not about the field the work in either. Success provides choices. Lack of it means terms are dictated to you. The former is much better.

  65. What if the four days of total darkness cures his wondering eye? He’ll no longer be able to make two reads simultaneously.

  66. Look up the definition of ‘self-absorbed nimrod’ in the dictionary and you see this guy’s picture…

  67. Aaron is just plain weird. All he wants is all of us to remain aware of him. He loves all the attention he gets. What he doesn’t get is that we are all sick of his nonsense, Please go away .

  73. you don’t have to wait i know exactly what he is going to do, refuse a trade, he knows what he has in gb plus toss in 58 mil for 17 games , he ain’t retiring

  74. I can’t roll my eyes far enough back. Just go already Rodgers. You’re entire persona has jumped the Shark.

  75. Aaron. We’re all laughing at a joke that you’re just not in on. And the joke is you.

  76. How will he wipe himself, change clothes and eat? I wanna see his setup. I am thinking of Charlie Chaplin in “Modern Times” in the efficiency machine except in the dark lol

  77. He tries way too hard to be provocative, it’s pathetic. He reminds me of Kyrie Irving in the sense that I just wish he’d shut up & go away. Neither one of those clowns are anywhere near as enlightened as they view themself

  78. If a loan Aaron Rodgers falls in the woods……..

You can be sure he’ll make sure you heard about it….

  79. When you have money they call you “eccentric”, when you don’t have money they call you “crazy”. This is Aaron Rodgers

  80. Think they can get Leo to star in the biopic?

All he would have to do is pick up where he left off in that Howard Hughes flick..

  81. He is a joke and making the Packers the Laughing Stock of the NFC. This annual ritual that he has is getting worse and worse. Its almost like he thinks any headline is a good headline as long as it can inflate his ego. If he was serious about this he would just do it and not make a big announcement about it. He is a legend in his own mind.

  82. Rodgers usually makes a bee line pit of green bay as soon as the season ends. Looks like this year he will be returning to green bay for 4 days after the super bowl.

I’ve come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence

  86. Wow, reading some rough stuff here. I get it though. He gets way too much attention, and whenever it dips, he seeks it out, and then dissapoints. He was a great player though.

  87. Rodgers is just a troll. He spent his 1st 10 years photo bombing people and the rest of the time trolling saying stuff so the media reacts or repeats it. I expect Rodgers to be back in GB next year. I find it hard to believe some team is going to trade 2 #1’s for a declining 39 year old QB. He averaged 217 passing yards a game last year.

  88. Doesn’t it seem like we’re all waiting with baited breath for Aaron to emerge from the darkness like Punxsutawney Phil to determine whether or not we’ll have six more years of football?
