Orlando Brown: Zero sacks allowed, this is a historic offensive line

In Super Bowl LV, the Chiefs wilted under the pressure of the Buccaneers pass rush and went down to a lopsided defeat in Tampa.

Things went very differently in Arizona on Sunday night. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes came into the game with an ankle injury and aggravated it on the team’s final offensive play of the first half while facing an Eagles defense that was among the all-time leaders in sacks, but Mahomes was not sacked at all over the course of the evening.

The work of the offensive line helped the Chiefs come back from being down 24-14 at the break and left tackle Orlando Brown took some time to revel in that performance after the game.

“Zero sacks,” Brown said. “Put it on a fucking t-shirt. This is a historic offensive line. You look at what coach [Andy] Reid, [offensive line coach] Andy Heck, [offensive coordinator Eric] Bieniemy, the position they put us in up front to allow us to have the consistency that we have week after week. To be able to stand up here as a world champion, none of that is possible without everyone understanding the plan. They continue to put us in a great position, they know the type of talent they have, they know the leadership they have. We take a lot of pride upfront in being the source of energy and when you’re coming into this game, circumstances, everything is going to be really high, it’s the Super Bowl, Patrick’s been dealing with an ankle injury. We knew we’re were going to have to pass in certain situations. It wasn’t pretty or perfect, but it was enough to win the game and that’s what matters.”

The Chiefs spent a lot of time, draft picks and money addressing their offensive line after the Bucs loss. Those investments paid off handsomely on Sunday night.

  1. An impressive performance indeed! And I didn’t see them false starting on every play either.

  2. It’s pretty easy to play OL and give up no sacks when Andy is dialing up a million screens and quick passes. By the time you get your hands on a defender the ball is 10yds downfield.

  3. Pretty easy to not give up sacks when you hold on every play knowing that flags aren’t coming out for that in a super bowl game.
All you’ve done now Orlando is get someone to out together a tape of all the holding plays that happened with no call made. Sometimes it’s just best to not stand on that soap box because that tape will be coming to social media for all to see I’m sure.

  4. The play-calling by Reid eliminated the Eagles pass rush. How many deep balls did you see, the kind that would have required Mahomes to hang back in the pocket longer waiting for the play to develop? The ball was almost always out of Mahomes’ hands before anyone could get to him.

  5. Yeah for all the hype, the Eagles D-Line came up small. Should have been able to get to a gimpy Mahomes a lot more than they did.

On the other side of the ball, Eagles O-Line were mashers in short yardage but couldn’t keep pressure off Hurts enough when it mattered.

KC won both sides of the line of scrimmage bigly and it made the difference.

I’m sure they will release a film for both offensive lines correct ?

  7. Tampa took advantage of the injuries. Have to have depth on that Oline, They were impressive considering Eagles DLIne was incredible all year.

No, no and no. Both teams gave up 35 points, which is what Goodell wants. They want points, which is why Holding isn’t called on OLs.

Defending creepy officiating is why Goodell keeps doing it.

  9. “The Chiefs hold on every play, the Chiefs get all the calls, the refs hand games to the Chiefs…” Blah blah blah. Do you people have anything better to do with your time?

For 10 years now this organization has had one of the best runs in football history, especially the last 5. Reid built it from complete rubble and Mahomes came in and helped him finish establishing what Kadarius Toney just called a “life changing” culture. Maybe instead of whining non-stop about ridiculous conspiracy theories, you could demand better from your own organizations.

To discredit what this franchise has built with all this bogus nonsense is an insult to the incredible amount of commitment and hard work it takes to accomplish everything they have. Just stop already, it’s beyond ridiculous at this point.
