Report: Rams have had trade talks about Jalen Ramsey, and it’s “very likely” he’s dealt

Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey tweeted, and then deleted, that he “maybe” could get traded this offseason. Odds are improving on that happening.

The Rams have had trade talks about the six-time Pro Bowler, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports, and Pelissero’s league sources “now believe it’s very likely Ramsey is dealt in coming weeks.”

Ramsey, 28, is due $17 million in 2023. Trading him would free $5.6 million in cap space if it’s finalized before June 1, leaving them with a $19.6 million dead cap hit, but the move would be more about 2024 and beyond.

Ramsey arrived in Los Angeles in a trade from Jacksonville during the 2019 season, and he has made the Pro Bowl all four of those seasons and was All-Pro twice. He has 10 interceptions, 47 pass breakups and four forced fumbles in 57 games with the Rams.

The Jaguars received a 2020 first-round pick (20th overall, K'Lavon Chaisson), a 2021 first-round pick (25th overall, Travis Etienne) and a 2021 fourth-round pick (130th overall subsequently traded, Robert Rochell).

  1. Well chaisson seems to have been busting pretty hard but that Etienne guy seems to have been a great pick.

  2. The Rams went all in and it (barely) worked out. That’s fine for a fanbase that’s never won, like Minnesota or Buffalo. Their fans will have been rewarded and would completely understand the trade-off of dismantling, rebuilding. They’d still show up.
Who didn’t see this coming? Chargers have a stronger fanbase, as we speak.

  3. Jamal Adams went for 2 1st round picks. I need 2-3 1st rounders for a top 5 corner like Ramsey.

  4. Maybe a 2nd, at best. He regularly gets his lunch took by the better receivers in the league.

  5. Hell no. Would way rather see them resign Bradberry.

Love to love to see Ramsey playing along side D.Slay!!

  6. Dudes been declining since 2019, I wouldn’t rely on him to be the guy to stop a #1 receiver but he would be great as a #2 option. A team with an established #1 corner but lacking depth could make a huge impact trading for him. Dallas, San Fran. Cincy. KC

Love to see him in Minnesota. Just can’t see how the Vikings could make it happen

No way he ends up in Minnesota. They don’t have the cap space, or the picks to give up. In addition, he wants to win.

  8. I hope nobody trades for him & they either have to release him or keep him another year for really no good reason….. they will be & should be happy to get a 1st… nobody will overpay for what soon could be for free…

  9. Anyone who thinks the Chargers have a bigger fan base should re-examine their entire existence.

  10. I’m sure they want him out of the division and out of the NFC if possible. The number of teams that can absorb that cap hit are few, and some have some big names to sign or franchise tag already on their roster, like the gIANTS. The Bears, Falcons, Raiders, Texans, Bengals and Patriots are all candidates. The Seahawks only have 15 mil available right now and they need money for draft picks and in season moves. The Ravens could possibly do it with some cap gyrations, depending on what they do at QB, but the QB situation is probably what takes them out. The Bears and Texans are in rebuild mode and the Falcons are marginally ahead of them but they finished 8-9. The Raiders have no QB yet. If Ramsey has any say in where he goes, the Bengals and Patriots are probably his best bets. Given how close the Bengals are to a ring, he might want to give that a try if he doesn’t mind being in a lower profile city. Belichick, when he can, likes to grab a #1 shutdown corner in the free agent market like Darrelle Revis or Stephon Gilmore. It usually puts his defense over the top into really good or elite territory because it gives him flexibility to try other things. Ramsey hails from the Nashville area so maybe being closer to home in Cincy will be a factor. Atlanta could say the same with regard to proximity to Nashville, and they do have 50 mil in cap space. The NFC South is wide open. I’d wager on one of those three….Cincy, NE, ATL.

It was a fine strategy and they won a Super Bowl. Quick: name a franchise other than Chiefs and Pats who’ve won more than 1 in quick succession. Many teams would love to have one Super Bowl.
Besides, I think Rams will rebound rather quickly. I’m not a rams fan.

This isn’t some form of fantasy football.

  13. Somebody will trade for him, especially if the Rams wait for an injury. The reality is that Ramsey is nowhere close to as good as advertised. He benefited from being on a stacked Jax defense, and then landed on another very good defense in LA. The second LA became mediocre… Ramsey was exposed. I’ve seen games where he got smoked repeatedly. His antics won’t be tolerated any longer.

  14. He needs another whole career’s worth of stats to get to Deion’s numbers. Jalen is not a Hall Of Famer.

  15. No matter how much draft stock and salary cap you get loaned eventually everyone has to pay back the bank.

  16. Salary isn’t crazy if he’s still the player he was. After last season I’d be cautious if I were a GM.

  17. Bill Belichick should be all over this one. Trade for him, sign a tackle and draft a first round receiver. I would be very happy with that off-season if it comes to fruition

  18. I’ve been following the Rams for fifty years now, and Jalen Ramsey is the best cornerback on the team that I’ve ever seen.

  19. Lions have the picks, they have the cap space, they desperately need a corner. I think it’s no coincidence Amon-Ra brought it up last week, he probably knows that the Lions are one of the teams who’s already talked to them.

  20. Would love to see him go to the Vikings .. mortgage their future for years on 1 guy. That defense needs more than just 1 guy but hey – go for it.

  21. As a Lions fan, I would say our 18th pick and a third at most. We have to take on that salary and we are taking the risk at his age vs his salary. But, it could pay off huge if he still has it and we can get a DT that can provide pressure. I would rather trade up for Jalen Carter or sign daRon Payne. But if can get the DT AND a new CB we will be in solid shape.

  22. I like him to land in Cincinnati here. Maybe two 2’s? Cincinnati still has to sign Higgins so it’ll be interesting. GO BILLS.

  23. It will be amusing when all the negative nellies regarding Ramsey throw their hands up in celebration when their team lands him in a trade.

  24. Ramsey will go after the $$$ wherever. In his mind he’s earned it but his play last season showed how he himself handles adversity – not well. And add to the fact he’s a head case diva who regularly got beat by faster receivers! Can he still play ?- Yes when HE wants to, So whichever GM that signs him will have their hands full & any contract should be incentive laden with minimal guarantees aside from the typical signing bonus.

  25. With his salary and current level of declining talent he isn’t worth much if anything to any halfway decent GM, though there are those idiots like Jerry (who never goes all in in) would trade for what was a superstar just because he was a superstar even though he is maybe at best mid-level cover corner.

  26. The Rams bought a Super Bowl on the credit card,… and I congratulate them for doing so. But now to accommodate all the salary they pushed out to future years of salary cap,… it’s time to pay the credit card bill. Looks like the only way they can do it is tear the roster down of the high priced players and start a rebuild. If they can get some draft picks via trades that’s a bonus for them. I’d hate to be their GM right now. I’m surprised McVay is coming back.
